DAMN that twist though, what a post.

I think Dunlad will be in agreement with the wall building scenario. Or rather a dike by the river to regulate water levels and prevent flooding in the future. If that's possible?

It's very possible.

@Shorticus
Are their any clans that I could contact to provide help in digging my ditch

Whoever you think might be worth contacting. You could try calling in favors, or you could pay neighbors. Having extra hands would help, yeah.

I mean, there are clans that owe you guys favors. I listed it somewhere.

Here's the list:

These clans owe us favors: Clan Bodeci, Clan Cinaede, and Clan Gearalti.

You know, I just realized something. In my actual post, I mentioned that Gwen, Maire's thrall, went with the expedition. I didn't mention her in the list of resources Maire took with her, though. Considering how the expedition went, Gwen just dodged a bullet lol. It also doesn't make sense for Maire to leave her home unattended. I edited my post a wee bit to reflect this stupefying brilliance on my part :P

Yeah, um... Yeah. She would've been in the list of people that could've died. <<

It's no biggie, though. Two people were dying one way or the other.

Nah, your expedition roll was fine. Your total after modifiers was a 9, a success with a cost. But I'd rolled two "bad" events, and you happened to be exploring near the Barrows...

I decided the "cost" was a bad event for you personally, but you succeeded in your task. So... Lucky you!

EDIT: And, yes, I have hidden objects on the map. You can't see them yet because they haven't been revealed to you folks through exploration. The Barrows is one of those places.

Hmm, I could make this cool dragon skull into armor. For me. Or I could hang it up like a nerd. How much armor could I make exactly? Might try to outfit elite squad for the barrows.

We could save the armor for duels and quests.

Also, Ardghal will be helping to dig the moat. Who is going to patch things over now that Eliz has caused a diplomatic insult?

Right-click the image. Copy-paste into an empty URL bar. That should make the words big enough as you can zoom in there.

So, I figure I'd best go ahead and note a couple things:

@Lauder @Jangel13 Getting a ditch dug is simple enough. Getting a larger effort done, like using the water to create a moat or trying to expand the river, is still doable but will be more difficult to succeed at. Both of the proposals do have more specific problems, too:

In the case of building a moat, that means you'll have to dig the moat deep enough to actually keep it full of water in every season. This would be difficult. Should you succeed, though? Yeah, you'll have a moat, and that's a big boon.

In the case of creating a branching part of the river that flows toward Gearalti, you'll be working uphill, essentially. Gearalti is located in the hills, and rivers naturally move downhill. To put it bluntly, you'd need a lot of extra hands to get that done - extra hands two clans in the Rain Season can't provide - and it's probably something that'd take more than a single season. Again, it's doable, but it's probably not the best of ideas. It WOULD make Clan Gearalti happy with you, but... Difficult, and you wouldn't be able to finish that until after the floods have done their dirty work.

Just remember that each turn is a 30 day period, meaning you've got less than 30 days and realistically very little manpower. You've got projects in mind that are dealing with digging deep ditches for miles. Serheim's proposal is more feasible than Seoras' in the span of a single turn (your clan village is located pretty close to the river), but both of them will be tough in the short term. Both are good long-term goals, however.

EDIT: I hate to sound like a Negative Nancy as your GM. But, basically, I'm noting this because I have to apply modifiers to the dice rolls - including negative ones - and if you guys don't stop the floods, that = bad. Diverting the flow of water is one thing. Trying to complete a grander construction project while ALSO trying to attend to your crops in the span of 30 days is quite another.

Hmmm...I like the idea of a moat, personally, but you do have some salient points, Shorticus. That's a lot of digging versus just digging a ditch to divert the water elsewhere. Expect a post from me towards the end of the week. I didn't post for my other RP so I need to do that first :)

@Lexicon Totally fine. Take your time.

And yeah, I like the idea too. As said, it makes a GREAT long-term goal. But it's a really difficult short-term one, doable though it may be.

@Shorticus

I am leading more towards building a wall to help keep the water at bay as well, but that runs into the same problem with the whole manpower thing. A ditch to just divert the water may just be the best bet in the end.
