@Section I for one think the tank idea is cool. If you pick a large enough tank, you can make it a shelter too.

Better idea: use an APC (armored personnel carrier). The bay area is big enough for a Jeep, so you have plenty of room for a weatherproof and bulletproof sleeping and supply zone. It also has a turret gun and needs a crapload of fuel, and it would be fantastic for character development because people could start to develop claustrophobia, or you could find supplies that are too valuable to leave, but are so bulky that someone has to sleep outside.

@Section

America is the go to, but most of Europe speaks English already, so that would be suitable too.

Nothing groundbreaking on technology, but I'm sure some nearing sci-fi techs would add flavor to the RP.

Expect the RP to be up in the casual section by the weekend - I will ask you all to be prepared to submit characters before or around this time. They need not be finished, but I will depend upon some story and flesh to make the world something not only I, but you all, can enjoy.

Keep up the brainstorming, talk among yourselves, keep it light and breezy and keep on keeping on.

Until next we speak.

EDIT: any artwork you think will be suitable for the RP, drop me a PM please.

I think that only applies to big cities. The English language proficiency elsewhere is... pretty disheartening. I speak from personal experience :I

Can we have some deeper insights on the causes that led the world to collapse? A timeline, or something like that would surely come in handy for the CS.

@MatthiasAngel
Where's sweet Minerv- I mean, why didn't you put intelligence on the list?

@iHxzardx
Feel free to jump on the hype train. Arrival at destination expected for this weekend!

APC quote, snippy snippy.

Believe it or not, I was actually considering an APC as well, I'm still in a dilemma about it, because a tank might actually be more fun in how impractical its. Like, people would need to sit on top (a Soviet T-72, as I was considering, only has a crew of three maximum), along with supplies, any loot, making choosing what and who to take a big dilemma. Plus, I feel it's a very romantic idea, people sitting on top of a tank, rumbling through the overgrown cities of this setting.

On the other hand, APC's are much more practical for the reasons you mentioned and, for civilian characters, a lot easier to maintain (wheeled ones are closer to cars), plus there's still the possibility of people sitting on top, just not as romantic as a tank to me. But the claustrophobia idea is definitely an interesting one. The dilemma comes down to it being practical or impractical. Impractical could be a lot of fun to write, with all the challenges of it, but practical is, well, more practical and maybe realistic.

Anyway, glad to hear the OOC will be up relatively soon, even if I'm back to school after the weekend... I'll try to find some pictures for you, @vermillion, but in the meantime sso people can start working on characters, do you have any particular ideas for character sheet templates yet?

Good points. Plus a tank overall is more recognizable and easier to envision. You say "tank" and it's like "oh, okay. Big, clunky, menacing, easy to ID at a distance." Everyone else will know a tank when they see one. And less space means more collaboration between survivors.

Thing is, too much party conflict means you'll be RPing a group, not a person. That's way, way more work. We'll need to know why people are fighting. Personality? History? Phobias? It'll be even worse if/when another RPer meets you, because they may not get along with you, but they might with someone else. Oops, they need a description/picture, name, age, personality, set of skills, etc.

The tank idea is great, but I think you're going to need to collaborate with someone else here. You need at least a crew of four to operate a tank: driver, commander, gunner, and loader. (three if the tank has an auto-loader, but those are pretty modern). But you could have someone to be the loader and gunner because you won't be firing frequently, and they could scramble between positions (or ride on top until needed).

Heck, make the driver an NPC. It's extremely boring: you sit there and just do what the commander says to do. The driver is often also mechanic, so he could just keep an eye on the tank all the time.

Basically, I suggest using a tank and collaborating with someone. You need three characters, with the driver as an NPC taking orders from the commander. I'm interested. I can RP two people, and they'll be the gunner and loader, since you'd probably like to be Commander.

@Section Some tank info, using the M1 Abrams, the current USA main battle tank, as an example.

Max Speed: 40-45 mph on roads, 25-30 on uneven terrain.

Fuel consumption: 10 gallons to start the turbine. 60 gallons per hour (so you can go up to 30 mph on rough terrain, or 45 mph on paved road, for an hour with 70 gallons).

Fuel capacity: 500 gallons. You're never going to fill it up, so gas will always be a resource to hunt.

That's pretty solid, but you probably won't get your hands on one.

Wow! Tanks, APCs and Guns

Getting kind of heavy metal

I take it with the reference to the Game Fallout that people play a lot of video games and truly crave a militant environment and it's attendant acts of violence.

The largest Tanks made can't carry that many people, I think the Israeli Mirkava carried 4 crew and 6 infantry.
As a military brat I used to play on and around such machines ever so often and can't remember seeing any that I'd call comfortable

Character sheet Skeleton

Name:

[Where you were and what happened around when things began to fall - IE a short paragraph describing the occurrences around your character when the world fell to 'chaos'.]

Gender:

Age:

Personality: (fears, likes and aspirations - then everything psychological in between)

Description: (appearance, distinctive visuals, physical traits or mannerisms - once again, everything physical and visual in between IE phenotype etc)

Possessions: Objects that serve no real purpose.

Equipment: Items of use and practicality.

Notes: The most important section. Extra info goes here, and this is where you can edit and keep an almost diary of the character as time passes throughout the RP.

The difference between personality and description is important. If the character thinks or feels it, it goes in personality. If the character has a bad leg or bad eye sight, that's description.

Also, possessions and equipment are different. A bottle of water, a knife and a flare will all go under equipment. They are useful and serve a purpose. However clothing, a picture of the family, an old necklace and some spare glasses - these are just possessions.

Hope this helps :)

I think in this case it's more for preparation in case of violence rather than a desire for violence. I want to scavenge, not hunt people. Besides, this is a post-natural-apocalypse. It's all about survival, and with survival comes violence one way or another. Everyone doesn't get to survive when there are limited resources. Not everyone will be generous when they risk starving to death.

It'd be cool to use the tank cannon to clear debris or something. Like, you'll make a path, but you risk gathering a lot of attention.

Sorry just kept seeing the reference and because the game is a First Person Shooter type couldn't help but picture big fire fights every week, especially with Players talking about guns they'd have

@RumikoOhara No, I'll be actively avoiding shooting. I want to get a .357 revolver, which is a terrible weapon for a gunfight anyway. I just want one for emergency self-defense or for hunting. Remember, nature has taken over. That means wild animals are a legitimate threat.

Also, Fallout is not an FPS. It's an RPG.

Oh, with how Fallout 4 is, I'm not surprised at all that you got the impression it was a FPS.

Alright, so I did some thinking (a surprise, considering I'm on vacation) and I think how it'll go is that most of the time, my main character will spend time away from the tank, probably as the designated scout. I'll probably make a few minor characters, basically NPC's too spruce up life a bit and if I ever feel I need another character, I can give more detail to them. For now, I'm still looking at possible vehicles, looking at private collections in the US and museums that have working vehicles, so I can find a place to grab one from. :3

@Section Don't be afraid to work with others to make a group of you that RP around the tank. That makes for a great goal for many players to aim for too.

Enjoy your Vacation :)

I did, and I'm taking it into consideration! How could I denounce such good ideas? I'll be giving it a lot of thought as I work on my CS(').
