Beryl --- Everything went to hell in the span of an hour. Melanie had just left the classroom with Kiyoshi, the two probably heading for where the hot lunches were being distributed. Darian was absent, as well as Gigi from the classroom. Alex had left the moment lunch started, off towards his own little hiding space. The rest of the students were absorbed in whatever they were doing, whether it was reading a manga in their seat, fixing their makeup, or sleeping in like they have all day when Mrs. Castro wasn't around to scold them. Ten minutes passed, and none of the students who had left were anywhere in sight. Beryl thought nothing of it, staying in his little corner and keeping away from everyone else. Twenty minutes passed, and he started to wonder where the 5 other students were. Thirty minutes in, and he got a text message from Genevieve that said she had fainted while she was alone. A pang ran through the albino's heart as he read the words, feeling responsible for not accompanying her when she first peeled from him before classes even begun. He had all the chances in the world to help her out, and he didn't. For what? A perfect attendance, which he would probably break the next time a PE class started? Beryl visibly buried his face in his hands, internally ashamed of his brief moment of selfishness. Thirty-five minutes in, he was no longer worried for Genevieve alone, but also the rest of his classmates. Where were they? Didn't they know that classes were about to resume in 5 minutes? Also, what happened to those hot lunches the class reps were supposed to get? His concerns were emulated by his fellow classmates, all expressing them in their own unique ways. As the thirty-ninth minute came around, Beryl started to wonder about the concern from some of his classmates. Not everyone here had a connection to any of those missing so why? Then, like a lightbulb that had clicked within his mind, he understood the implications that came with their absence, as well as who was their next teacher for today. Mrs. Castro would not be happy. Said teacher was walking through the halls to her next class, a slight skip in her step. She might have blown up on them just a slight bit after witnessing the table of tension that morning, but what was she to do? She was a teacher, not a student herself. Giving her students leeway was just asking for repeat offenders of school rules, and she wasn't going to have to deal with that. Thankfully, at least one of the students from class B was responsible. Thoughtful Genevieve had sent the teacher an email, pertaining to excusing herself for not attending classes, claiming that she was sick and unable to learn for today. Mrs. Castro was just so happy that a student would care enough to tell her teacher what her current status was, regardless of whether or not said student was able to attend classes. Keeping this peppy outlook within her mind, Mrs. Castro opened the classroom door... And promptly lost it when she noticed that a third of her students were absent, including her recently instated class representatives. Beryl shuffled in his seat, observing Mrs. Castro's expression as she stopped by the door. She seemed to be happy, but why were the rest of his classmates becoming even more nervous? He had no idea what was in store, having been absent during her morning tirade. "Hello class!" the teacher said with a perky tone, resuming her walk into the classroom, and placing her bag next to the podium. However, instead of turning to the class and starting Assembly, the Italian teacher moved towards the phone near the door, dialing someone's number and waiting for them to respond. A sinking feeling rested in Beryl's gut, the albino felt that the teacher wasn't going to be having a normal social call. "Hello, Jerry?", Mrs. Castro's voice echoed through the eerily silent classroom, and Beryl sighed in relief. Oh, good. She was just calling the janitor, probably for the half-snow, half-water covered desk in the back. That wasnt so- "Yes, remember my wonderful class that had offered to clean the bathrooms this morning? They had just recently gained an amazing appreciation for the janitors of our school, and are willing to clean the bathrooms for a while month!" Two thoughts ran through Beryl's head when he had heard this: 'When did we agree to this in the first place?', and 'Why all of us?' "Yup, Class B of the junior year," Mrs. Castro continued, seemingly unaware of her students' discomfort. "To make it even better, they have all agreed to be expelled if they are absent for any of their cleaning duties, so that they couldn't ever give in the the temptation of skipping!" Makien let out a low groan, just barely unheard by the teacher on the phone. Beryl felt like emulating him. Being strong armed into cleaning the bathrooms for a whole month was not how he envisioned his first day at school. Not at all. With a short "Bye bye!", Mrs. Castro hung up the phone, turning to her students with a smile that seemed more sadistic instead of happy in the mind of her albino student. "Well, class. Shall we head for the restrooms?" This time, the whole class groaned in unison, not even trying to hide the fact that they weren't very keen on doing that kind of work. The sight of a grinning Mrs. Castro reach for a detention slip on the podium caused everyone to get out of their seats as quickly as they could, even Octavia.
