Apologies for the mess here folks, this old man tends to ramble on about things carelessly, especially when brainstorming a character on the backburner.
Tell me, what's the most difficult part of character creation for you guys? Mine is coming up with a name.
Definitely choosing a picture, if I had any art skills it would make this a hell lot easier if I could just create what look I want. Next to that would honestly be deciding what gender character I want, oddly enough.
I typically never have problems with names since I use a name generator, sort like the one @Ophidian linked, but mine is a different one.
Writing out the personality is the hardest for me with history in a close second. I know how I want my characters to act in my head, but no matter how I put it down on paper, it never feels right and I worry that I'll fuck it up and people will misinterpret >.>
History is second since I have trouble coming up with an idea but once I have one its not too hard ^^
As for names, use name generators or like the one Ophidian provided, baby name lists or google translate and find words with meaning behind them; Akio's last name actually translates to "Silver Heart" so it kinda fits in a way. Sometimes I just make shit up if it sounds close enough tho xD
I totally get that, a lot of my characters undergo changes to their personalities after I've written them down, plus sometimes being in character can be tough

Same here! I can never find accurate pictures... or figure out what to put in the Google images search bar to even come close...

A handy trick I picked up-whenever you get something sorta resembles what you want, check the "others like this" bit, and you might find something alot closer.

That's why I usually look for pictures first. Its also a benefit of watching a lot of anime is that I can simply look up characters that I think would work for the appearance of my own. I also use this when not playing anime characters by looking up either fanart of them or cosplay ^^
I do try. I can work away hours discussing the quirks and personality of a character with friends, so by the time I have one actually done....they kinda start writing themselves.
Kastrati was supposed to be the son of a general, not a badass merc from a PMC with a missing eye.....and yet....

A dear friend of mine has the ability to, in her own words "make google her bitch". Her ability to accurately find anything you ask her to search for is uncanny.

If he fell for a reverse trap I guess you could say....
FINALLY A CHARACTER, HALLELUJAH Tell me if she's crap or not, I'll live either way. And I'm liking Kastrati more and more by the minute. Even though I'll probably have nightmares of him tonight. Whew.
Eidel Shain
Age: 18
Profile picture on her main social network, present day.
A photo taken of Eidel during a trip to Japan for her sixteenth birthday.
Eidel, after breaking up with her fourth boyfriend, at fifteen years old.
Height: 160 cm // 5’3”
Weight: 58 kg // 127 lb.
For activities, Eidel especially likes reading, music, sight-seeing, making home-made teas, games and… she doesn’t really know what else. Having spent most of her youth either studying, trying to be social and sticking with whichever group or clique that accepted her, she never really had time to develop her own hobbies. As for various subjects, she enjoys the following: -Learning and studies -Languages -Technology -Organization -Otaku-ism (very closeted about it, however) -Socializing (?) -New things, interesting, unique people
She denies disliking many things and this is mostly the case, as Eidel is fairly open to new things, but a lot of the time, she does dislike a given thing and just wants to fit into a group. However, things she dislikes for sure are the following: -Rejection -Loneliness -An excess of excitement, though she still seeks it -Drinking, most of the time -Smokers -Love (ironically enough, as she wants to have it more than anyone she knows)
Party Trick: Can easily, really easily, disappear from any situation. Close your eyes for ten seconds and she’s gone. Also amazing at fighting games, but literally only those by Arc System Works.
Profession: Student of Classical Philology, French Language and Slavic Studies at Shine City Academy, looking for part-time job.
Personality/Bio: Being a newcomer to a place like Shine City and Shine County would make anyone shy, but when you take someone who’s socially awkward and yet aching for socialization and love, despite vocally refusing the latter, you get a rather particular person.
Meet Eidel.
Shorter and lighter than most, she is oftentimes shy and oftentimes too outspoken, plus with an appearance that doesn’t beg too much attention, the girl easily disappears into most sceneries. When little should be said, she says too much and when so much is needed, she can only say a fraction of what is necessary. After spending most of her childhood starved of most affection by her parents and being an only child, she went through most of her teenage years constantly seeking friendships and socialization. Instead of getting over her social ineptness, she ended up going from clique to clique, interest to interest and was stuck with the “bragging right” of having had four boyfriends and yet never had her first kiss. Around the age of fifteen, her parents suddenly realized they had a teenage daughter and she abandoned her social ventures to focus on studies and her very few hobbies, as well as spending time with her parents. Though she constantly told herself that she hated love, that it just wasted her time and hurt her, it’s one of her main desires, but after four disasters of relationships, she can’t even imagine how to get it, whether it's with a man or a woman. Now, in a new place, she has new opportunities, but it’s up to her if she’ll seize the day, discover who she is and what she wants, or let herself fade into obscurity.
@Jay Kalton YES! Last time we had a whole bunch of super short girls, so it's nice to see a tall one. Also, I laughed way too hard at the pigeon chasing bit. She's good to go, you can move her over to the character tab!
@Section Oh my goodness, in that first picture you can see all sorts of tiny little freckles, which I think is adorable! Cs looks good, you're approved.
I also think it's super cute that she makes her own teas!

Well, I think she looks fine, as characters go. It's hard to say if a character is a dud or not until you write them for a bit. Sadly.
And in the spirit of scaring you further, Kastrati's idea of a first date is....
1. Look up train schedule.
2. Drag victi-date to railroad bridge in wilderness.
3. Climb up bridges support system until you are directly beneath track.
4. Wait for train.
5. Scream as train passes overheard, flinging sparks everywhere-possibly including your face, to assert your dominance over it.
