For a moment, Clark's resolve was shaken as he wondered whether he'd done the right thing, but it strengthened up recalling his meeting with Steve Rogers. Even under Lex's influence, Clark hoped that Captain America would see to it that the League did the right thing by Corben. There was part of him that needed to believe that. His father, Jonathan Kent, had idolised Captain America and held him up as a bastion of truth, justice, and the American way to the young Clark Kent. He needed that to be true. "Trust me, Diana, I don't like it any more than you do. The energy that Corben was giving off came from a meteor rock that originated from my planet. There are only two men on Earth that have access to that substance – Lex Luthor and Victor Von Doom. Lex is involved, somehow, and Thor arriving here despite Corben being headed in the opposite direction of the Watchtower only proves that. What we don't know is how much Thor and the rest of the Justice League know about it." The Man of Steel looked away from Thor and towards Diana, whose unhappiness was clear on her face. "Now, unless you were intending on using that lasso of yours on Thor, the only way of finding out how much he and the League knows is by letting him take Corben and watching them. I want to see how they react, what kind of scrutiny they put Lex under, and see whether he's made to account for this at all or whether they give him a pass. We need to know where the League stands." Clark took a step closer to Diana, lower his voice a little, suddenly aware of how exposed they were out in the public. He needed to be careful what he said. As popular as Superman was, he'd burned through some of his popularity by making a stand over the Mutant Registration Act, and his dislike of Luthor was well-documented, the last thing he needed was to add fuel to that fire – it was why he'd done his damnedest to avoid a conflict with Thor. "If we're ever going to do something about Lex, we can't risk all out war with them and our Asgardian friend seemed all too keen for the three of us to come to blows. That's not something I wanted to happen. I should have run it by you, I understand that, but I didn't exactly have much time."
