Casually, almost disarmingly good looking, Matthew has aged well, he is in his late thirties, but could be mistaken for a man in his late twenties, with natural, thick hair, and a relatively unlined face. He is clearly trim and in shape, and his taste in clothes demonstrate a man who has experienced a great deal of success in his life, and the money that comes with it, though he could hardly be called arrogant. He keeps his hair fairly short, though with enough length for it to always be just a little short of falling into his eyes. He favours a clean shaven look, and prefers the attentions of a Turkish barber though he will perform it himself if necessary, he has an appearance to maintain after all.

Whatever he does clearly allows him time for exercise, and his expensive, well cut clothes make it clear that he is trim and in shape, with solid layers of muscle concealed beneath his shirt. He has a faint tan, not from the sunbeds, but from time spent in warmer climes, though it is faint enough to make it clear that he is no sun worshipper.

Matthew is a charming man, he’s a gentleman, with impeccable manners, a truly chivalrous nature, and a proclivity for brutally murdering metahumans. A humanitarian, he will never put himself before others, and is, above all, willing to sacrifice himself for the betterment of humanity. In particular the part of humanity that doesn’t wield terrifying, reality defying powers.

He has the knack for earning people’s trust, for speaking to someone for but a few moments and behaving easily and comfortably in their presence, like old friends reunited after years. In truth he is a good man, kind, and fiercely loyal to those he calls a friend. He doesn’t enjoy violence, but is a man who is willing to do what must be done, or at least what he feels must be done.

Apart from the glaring fault of his occasional homicidal tendencies, Matthew truly is a good man. He is patient, understanding, and makes an effort to understand people. Truthfully, he struggles with what he does, but knows that someone has to return balance to the world. He tries to give them a chance, but after enough time they all trip up, they all demonstrate that they believe themselves to be better than normal humans, and then the terrible, cold rage comes over.

A working knowledge of human anatomy – He enjoys making metahumans suffer for their crimes, causing them pain, and he knows exactly where to punch, to slice, and to brand without killing. This brings with it a basic understanding of first aid and medicine, he doesn’t want his victims dying too soon after all, metahumans think that they are better, he aims to teach them otherwise, slowly.
Street fighting – There is no true art of fighting that Matthew is familiar with, but he is experienced, he can fight well, and he fights dirty, with no rules, no honour. It is just brutal, vicious efficiency intended to put down an opponent as quickly as possible, without concern for their health.
Lawyer – For years Matthew was one of the most successful lawyers in America, he may have left the profession behind, but he still knows his way around the law.

Matthew seeks closure, to feel like whatever mission he has is done. He is almost like a ghost, seeking to finalise its unfinished business, but his obsession will not allow closure, it will not allow relief, and he will spiral further into a dark and murderous state of mind from which he may never emerge.

Matthew Drake was the last person you would expect to be a killer, a successful lawyer, he began a career as a defence lawyer. It paid well, and he was good at it, so it paid even better, but he was never truly comfortable in his job. He was a good man with a passion for the law, and working as a defence attorney merely showed him how easily it could be twisted and manipulated to say whatever you want. Still he was very good at it, and he enjoyed doing what he was good at, as many do, and pushed his protesting conscience to the side in favour of profit and success.

He met a young lawyer there, a woman with an equal passion for her job, albeit with rather less flair than he himself possessed. She was young, attractive, and intelligent, and he fell in love with her, even beyond. Those who knew him agreed that it was a little too fast to really be healthy, but Matthew was infatuated, he didn’t listen to the warnings of his close friends. Of course it was excessively unprofessional for co-workers to sleep together, even more so considering that he was her superior, but they kept the affair a secret until it ended, suddenly. He’d assigned her to a case defending a young metahuman, one who had been accused of abusing his abilities to commit crimes.

He had sworn his innocence, and whether he was or not later became a moot point. He snapped under the pressure, and murdered eight people in the court room before being disabled and detained by NEST. Elizabeth Shriver was one of the eight, he’d snapped her neck with a single careless blow. The worst part of it all is that he should have been in the room, he was the lead chair in the case, but he’d been running late. Matthew knew only too well that he could have stopped the deaths of everyone in that room, but most of all Elizabeth. He left his job, disappeared for three weeks, and when he returned he had no interest in acting as a defence attorney, joining the DA’s office to become a prosecutor.

He worked tirelessly for four years, worked himself into the ground, and though he frequently got his man, too often did he see criminal metahumans, benefitted by a system that had never been equipped to deal with them. Every victory he achieved was made all the more hollow by those battles he lost, and he grew into a deeper depression, until finally taking the advice of his friends and family and quit. He was a wealthy man, without enough to retire in luxury, but at least enough to live comfortably for some time.

Unfortunately, without his work he grew deeper into depression, and even further into obsession, he would never be able to truly gain closure, the man who killed his love was imprisoned in one of the highest security prisons in America, and would remain so until he died of old age. So Matthew sought closure elsewhere. A gangbanger with the ability to slice flesh with his fingers, released thanks to a broken chain of custody in evidence, was sliced apart in an alley. A woman who had slaughtered two of her co-workers in a moment of rage. She had been released when the arresting officer was found to have searched her apartment without a warrant. She was never found.

Matthew knew enough about the system not to get caught, the law couldn’t deal with them, it didn’t know how to deal with people who thought themselves gods. He’d had to take the law into his own hands. It began with those who escaped justice, not an entirely ignoble cause perhaps, but as his obsession deepened he grew less concerned with crimes, and more concerned with the root of the problem. The arrogance, the superiority of metahumans had to be dealt with, and DOVE and RAVEN were more concerned with looking after their wellbeing than teaching them how to operate in a human society. So Matthew would have to be societies dark knight, judge, jury and executioner.

Power

Simply put, Matthew passively saps the metahuman energy of anyone within thirty feet of him. This ability acts instantly on metahumans, and only functions when they attempt to utilise their ability, that is to say, that should they attempt to use their ability, Matthew’s ability will instantly absorb the energy that would have been expended in the use of the power, effectively rendering the metahuman powerless while they are within the radius of his power.

This means that metahuman’s will feel just as drained as they would do after any use of their ability, while receiving none of the benefits. It can even have a limited effect on abilities that have effected physical changes upon the metahuman in question. Though they will still be able to utilise whatever benefits the physical changes bestow upon them, they will tire out significantly more rapidly than they would in any other situation.

He can manipulate this aura, that is to say, the radius, expanding it from the surface of his skin, up to thirty feet about himself, and anything in between, at will. It will always make him immune to abilities that affect him directly, such as healing or telepathy, that is unconditional.

Metahumans that are outside of his radius can still affect him, so, for example, a metahuman who can throw fire can still engulf him in flames, or a metahuman that wields powerful, matter destroying lasers can still cut him in half. As long as it does not rely upon manipulating his body or mind to have an effect. Metahumans who possess enhanced strength that has gifted them with far denser musculature can still use their strength, though they will tire more easily, as he cannot rob them of the physical changes their abilities have gifted them. This ‘theft’ of metahuman energy can also not induce ashing, no matter how far he pushes the metahuman in question, and he has tried, the most he can push them to is unconsciousness.

Though he has not yet discovered his limit, it is likely that attempting to suppress any more than six or seven metahumans at a time will tax his abilities sorely, and should they persist in trying to break the effect they may even induce ashing in him as he absorbs more power than his system can deal with.

Salvador is quite a bit taller than his sister, Max. This height comes from his father who was a similar height to Sal. Sal is certainly not skinny for his height, but instead filled out with clearly defined muscles. While certainly not a fitness nut he make sure to keep himself in good shape and has worked on his strength to help with fighting. His height manages to spread out the muscles meaning that he doesn't look overly muscular and strong. His body is quite attractive to those that get a chance to look at it.

Sal's hair is a dark brown, coming close to black. It's darker than his sister's but not by much. It is quite short, not short enough that it has been completely shaved off but not long enough to be any kind of bother. His eyes are narrow and ever so slightly turned, practically black in colour. His skin is a relatively dark tone of olive tan. This is darker than his sister's. His face is sharp and angular but not all that bad looking due to it. It is slightly square in shape, all sharp angles and lines.

Clothing wise Sal will often wear what is practical. In terms of practicality he will be found wearing a simple t-shirt along with cargo pants and some kind of leather jacket. If he is going more for looks he'll be found wearing jeans and the same leather jacket. In a way his clothing style is quite similar to that of his twin. One occasions where it is require he will wear something smarter but quite often he sticks to what is practical for what he does.

Sal is quite cold and not a particularly friendly person. He doesn't necessarily dislike other people but in general he is very judging and fussy about who he would like to spend time with. In general he has found that he gets on a lot better with those in criminal circles than normal citizens.

When he was younger Sal had anger issues similar to his sister. However he has them more under control than she does now and very rarely gets angry enough to do anything stupid.

Even with his general disregard and judgments on people Sal is a good leader. He is incredibly confident in himself and his decisions and as a result good at making decisions. His callousness will sometimes add to this.

Sal doesn't always not care, however. He is actually quite protective of his younger sister even though he disagrees with her current decisions (like joining RAVEN). He has a dislike for the organisation and controlling of metahuman, his dislike for RAVEN and DOVE not entirely justified. Sal has some iffy morals and knows it. However it doesn't stop him from doing what would be viewed as bad things. He can't really justify it, and doesn't care to.

Cooking / Baking: Sal enjoys various forms of cooking, something he tends not to tell many people, and is quite good at it.

Guns: Sal is quite interesting in guns and the different types, along with being good at shooting with them he enjoys learning how to maintain them ect.

Fighting: Salvador is trained in hand to hand combat. Most of this he learned from being in gangs and as a result knows how to fight dirty, and with knives.
Shooting:Sal's main skill in shooting is with pistols or similar at a more close range. He learned this from the gangs and is quite accurate. He also knows how to care for guns, and can use more long ranged ones such as a rifle but just isn't quite as good at that.
Cooking: Sal is a surprisingly talented cook. He can make a tasty meal out of pretty terrible ingredients and knows quite a few recipes off the top of his head. While he is no classy chef he can cook tasty enough meals in comparison to your average person.
Leadership: With a commanding air and the ability to keep cool under pressure, Sal is quite a skilled leader. He knows how to bring the best out of people and command them in a tough situation. He can keep them under control without getting incredibly angry at those who are insolent. However, with this leadership skill comes a certain amount of cockiness.
Strategy: Sal is quite good at coming up with strategies, whether that is for combat or for breaking into somewhere well protected. He can plan well and will come up with various backup plans quickly. This can help in tough situations

What is your character's goal in the story? Is it to stay alive? Take over the crime world?

Born to a metahuman and a normal human, Sal grew up in a surprisingly cheerful household. From a young age it was obvious that he had inherited his powers from his father as small cuts healed faster than they should and never seemed to bother him.

At four Sal got a younger sister, Max. He was overprotective at first and this grew into a friendly sibling rivalry. They spent most of their time play fighting (of course he always won). Though they were in contact with their cousins on their mum's side Salvador was never close to any. As a metahuman he felt he should avoid being around a family that was anti-metahuman.

Sal was fourteen when he accidentally caused his family to have to up and move. It was an accident, of course. He had been playing with his cousins, one of the few times he did so, and a slight slip from a tree caused a broken leg. Unfortunately for him he had no control over his regeneration and was able to walk long before most humans would. With his cousin's being more than somewhat anti-meta the family made the decision to move to Blackfall just in case.

Their time in Blackfall wasn't much different for Sal, until when he was sixteen and got involved in a car accident. His regeneration save him and his sister luckily survived. It didn't take him too long to have suspicions about the reason for his sister's survival though he kept it to himself longer than he should of. The two were sent off to live with their uncle, who had never wanted kids and let them look after themselves.

Sal was the first of the two to get involved in crime. He let Max tag along as she proved herself useful enough and he couldn't get her to stay at home even if he tried. He joined a minor gang and it was here the Max discovered for herself what her power was. Sal easily fit into the gang and quickly moved up the ranks with ease. His natural leadership skills helped him here. He managed to stay out of RAVEN/DOVE's radar by mostly running things behind the scenes are rarely going into do the proper dirty work after he reached a certain rank.

However the gang only got involved in worse things, turning into a full scale gang warfare resulting in RAVEN's intervention. Almost all members got arrested including Sal. After a bit of time detained he was released under surveillance. Sal travelled for a short period of time trying to work out what exactly he wanted to do.

He's now settled down in Baybridge, and has a part time job. However he's began to try and get in contact with criminals within Spring Town, even though he's told his sister he won't get involved in crime.

Salvador is limited in terms of the speed he can regenerate at. The more serious the wound the longer it takes, from a few seconds to heal a cut to hours / days for broken bones to weeks / months to regenerate a lost limb.

Along with this he is limited in how much he can regenerate. He can heal multiple small wounds at the same time but can only heal one serious one at a time (serious being anything that could be dangerous in the long run). If he loses more than one limb he can only regenerate one at a time.

There are things he cannot regenerate. If a serious enough wound damages his internal organs and would be fatal he will likely die from it, as he won't heal the internal rupturing fast enough. He can't heal that much brain damage. If his brain is damaged enough he may be able to heal it to the point of still being alive, but the damage would be irreversible and he wouldn't be the same person. His head is in general the weak spot and if it was, say, cut off he wouldn't survive it.

Salvador still feels all the pain of the wounds, and this has the effect a wound would on any. He may be able to regenerate but his pain threshold / tolerance is no higher than any other person.

When in the process of regenerating, especially if it is something serious, Sal is physically weakened. He will be able to function but is likely to struggle with even walking until he has finished the regeneration process. This puts him in a weak position. Of course this varies by wound. A cut will not cause this, but a broken bone may (even in the arm). This can be quite easily taken advantage of.

Sal is not invulnerable. He will die to serious head injuries or if he loses his head. He will die to major organ damage. He will also die to multiple fatal wounds, as he can only heal so many at once and one of them will kill him. If he would be instantly killed by something the chances are he will die (he does need some time to regenerate). So there are quite a few ways to kill him, just less than there are to kill the ordinary person.

If there is anything Garrett is good at, it’s appearing average. He isn’t the type of guy you would spare a second look at. Standing at 6’1’’ and weighing roughly 180lbs, he is exactly what people have in mind when they think ‘starving bachelor living away from home with a crappy job’. Tall but lanky, completed with the pale complexion of a night owl and the plastic smile of someone who couldn’t care less, Garrett looks at home behind the flimsy receptionist desk of his granddad’s motel. He isn’t all skin and bones though; a childhood in the harsh neighbour of Highroller Heights did put emphasis on skills such as running and knowing when to fight back, so there is some definition to him, just not something you’d write home about. His hair is of a light golden hue, which can look almost white under certain light, and his eyes are pale blue. It is quite obvious that he is Caucasian.

As for apparel, while his budget doesn’t allow him to be trendy, Garrett does make the effort to not look like a slob. Slobs stand out, and that is not a good thing in his book. Often, he wears simple shirts and loose jeans, along with your standard hoodie of innocuous color. However, he always pays special care to his footwear. It is rare to see him walk around in anything less than a pair high-end sneakers that is obviously worth more than anything he can scourge up in a month.

On the outside, Garrett is the very definition of normal. He is moderately friendly, does not go out of his way to initiate conversations, but nor does he shy away from them. He keeps his opinions to himself, unless asked. He looks both ways when crossing the street. He offers smiles and nods to fellow pedestrians. He eats fries by dipping them in ketchup and not dripping said condiment all over them like some barbarian. On the whole, he goes out of his way to appear normal. Diminutive. Forgettable. Harmless.

However, in the privacy of his thoughts, he is a study in contrast. He is calculating and practical. His circumstances have made him bitter and quite cynical; he does not trust easily and almost always expects the worst out of everything and everyone. This trait makes him quite the individualist, an unpredictable and selfish bastard who only looks out for himself. In his moments of cornered desperation, he grows dangerous. Yet, it doesn’t mean Garrett is without conscience. If he can help it, he prefers not to hurt anyone. He has his own sense of honor, warped and situational as it is, but he holds on to it regardless. And despite it all, he is somewhat sentimental. While he is admittedly a bit selfish, his loyalty is fierce once gained, but so is his hatred once that trust is broken.

He has a sharp eye for details and a sharper mind to process them; he notices things about people, things they don’t even notice themselves. However, while he is ever tactful when interacting, he is quick to judge and also has the annoying tendency to put far too much faith in his observational power.

He used to be an avid runner back in high school. He still does now, though it is less for sport and more for survival.

He leaves people alone, mostly. He just wants them to return the favor.

Garrett didn’t have what you’d call a normal, happy childhood. He was orphaned from a very young age, though for what reason, his few remaining family members didn’t elaborate, sparing him the grisly details. All he knew was that there was a fire, and the house collapsed, meanwhile he survived thanks to a broken arm that landed him in the hospital. After the incident, he came to live his grandfather, a pensioner and proprietor of a small motel in Highroller Heights. His uncle also lived there, occupying a small room on the ground floor. At that point, life was fairly easy on him. His grandfather was rather eccentric, the years weighed heavily on both his body and his mind, so he wasn’t always coherent. His uncle, on the other hand, was rather…dodgy. He would shut himself in his room for days on end, only to come out smell faintly of gasoline. Not that the man was unkind to him, just slightly aloof.

When he was old enough, Garrett balanced between school, fun time with friends and helping out at the motel, not that he was very passionate about the first one. Schools around those parts weren’t particularly good, chocked full of delinquents and whatnots. While he wasn’t the shining beacon of justice, his granddad’s bizarre sense of honor (which basically boiled down to ‘don’t be a dick’) rubbed off on him and he did try to not get into too much trouble. He picked up a few things from them though, like the interest in firearms for once. His uncle was surprisingly accommodating and supportive of this hobby, even going as far as giving Garrett a handgun on his 18th birthday.

The peaceful days came to an end, eventually, when one day, a team of RAVEN agents busted down the door of a room at his motel and dragged a man out. It wasn’t someone he knew personally, just another drifter who paid for the roof over his head and not questions. The scene was disconcerting nonetheless, Garrett felt uneasy as they slapped a collar on the drifter and led him away like a stray dog. It affected his granddad even more. The old man was quiet as dead when the agents did their job, watching them with darkened eyes, but as soon as they were out of the door, he was almost hysteric, mumbling gibberish while dragging around a suitcase and shoving Garrett’s things inside. Even his uncle dropped the ‘cool guy’ façade and tried to restrain granddad, fearing that the dementia finally kicked in. Maybe it had, because instead of answering his uncle’s questions, the old man dropped what he was doing, shoved his uncle aside and came at Garrett with the stun gun they kept under the counter for emergency.

Garrett swatted the weapon away, naturally, but not before feeling the cold touch of metal on his neck. It didn’t hurt though, quite the opposite of it actually. The electric current was…soothing as it came into contact with his skin. And that how he and his uncle found out about his power. It only got worse from there though. His uncle didn’t take the news very well. The last words he ever said to Garrett was a snarling “Just like his father!”, before the man proceeded to disappear into his room and avoid interactions since. Between his grandfather’s paranoia and his uncle’s growing resentment, Garrett developed mixed feelings about his power. It did not help that the RAVEN scene kept playing over and over in his head. So he decided he had enough. The next day, he packed up and left. That was three months after his graduation from high school.

Life on the road hadn’t treated Garrett well. Someone was on his trail, could be the RAVEN with a gun to put him down, could be the DOVE with their collars. He wasn’t sure how or why, but he didn’t care to find out. They were slow, but steady. And more importantly, they were gaining on him. He skipped between cities, slept rough in cold alleys and did what he could to stay low. He made an art out of it. Yet, fate had seen it fit to push him into the wrong crowd sometimes, and true to his survivalist mentality, Garrett did what he needed to stay on top. Even if that meant he would get blood on his hands. Sometimes during his run, he got tangled with the Allegiance. They offered some help; nothing much, just resources and connections he could use in his run. He only accepted a small fraction of what they offered and paid for it through information and leg works. Since, the organization had offered him membership and protection, but he outright refused. He knew the price they would ask in return.

Baybridge was a last resort. It was far too crowded, far too conspicuous. And yet, it might be the place he was least expected to be. Something about trees in forests and such. Regardless, he arrived and carved out a small niche for himself in Springtown.

Elemental

Electricity Maniplulation, or more specificly, Garrett has the ability to generate, shape and manipulate electric currents. He can make it coursing through him, electrocuting anyone unfortunate enough to come into range with varying results. When needed, he can also shoot arcs of lightning from his hands, should the need arise. While he is capable of generating his own currents, he can also take in electricity through other sources, significantly increasing his strength and reflexes temporary. He often refers to this state as ‘charged’, and during these times, his eyes glow an eerie blue and his control over electricity is amplified. With this power, he can also create a magnetic field around him, allowing to either draw in or expel metal objects at will.

His biggest limit would probably be his range. His power only extents about 2 or 3 feet from his person, and generating electricity is rather taxing. With debilitating currents strong enough to knock his foes out, he can probably stand to generate them dozens of times. But as for those strong enough to kill an adult, he will have to expend quite a sizeable amount of energy and will need direct physical contact. Therefore, he can probably do that for four or five times before stumbling into a burnt-out state. In this stage, all his energy is completely spent and he will lose access to his power in a couple of hours or even a day, depending on the severity of his exhaustion. He can recover quicker by recharging at a power source. However, this process is lengthy and during such time, he is often rendered lethargic.

One more thing to note about his power is that it comes in quick, devastating burst. Garrett finds continuous usage, like maintaining a magnetic field constantly, extremely tiring. It causes his body to overheat and he will be forced to take a break around every fifteen minutes, or risk reaching his burnt-out stage prematurely.

His magnetic field is fairly weak as well. While it allows him limited control over metal objects, its potency varies depending on the type of metal and he can only affect small or relatively light objects (forks and keychains and toasters). Heavier and bigger objects will instead either drawing him to or propelling him away from them, and not always in the direction or with the speed he wants them to. Furthermore, this ability is not selective. He has no control over what he will attract or repel. Sometimes, when he tried to grab the keys from the counter, the toaster also came loose and hit him on the head. Theoretically, he can also use this ability to affect the paths of projectiles such as bullets, but that will require complete concentration and an immense amount of energy.

In his ‘charged’ state, he is indeed stronger, faster and has access to a greater reservoir of energy, depending on how much he charged. However, there are also drawbacks. Greater charges will make him overheat faster and will force him to take frequent breaks, while weaker charges aren’t as potent. Naturally, it also takes time for him to charge up, usually from 5 minutes to a couple of hours using a common electricity outlet. During his charging time, he is also quite vulnerable, as the charging process will induce the same lethargic effects mentioned above. Stronger voltage will result in faster and stronger charge. Add lightning for drastic effects.

Water is the bane of his existence. Sure, normally, he can be just fine around water. But when using his power, contact with water will cause his power to haywire, dampening his ability and causing him to lose control. In his ‘charged’ state, contact with water will cause him to lose all his accumulated energy in a devastating and painful blast that will often leave him unconscious.

One more thing to note that the charge state is a double-edged blade to him. In additions to the overheat issue, charges are also quite taxing on his body. He doesn't stay in a charged stage for a prolonged period of time, as the accumulated energy will start wrecking havoc on his system. It will begin with minor burns along his fingertips, then it will spread upward. The same burn will apply when he attempts to channel energy for more than a few minutes.

If he goes for too long without using his power, he will get restless. He is unsure if it is a part of his power or a psychological condition. Regardless, it vexes him. Similarly, his charged state is something he would describe as a violent, dangerous and absolutely exhilarating high. He actually enjoys it so much that he is unwilling to give up his power, despite all the hassles it brings him.

The veins in his arms also glow blue when he uses his power, its intensity increases with the output of his power. However, as he grows closer to his burnt out stage, it starts to turn yellow, then red, before finally returning to normal.

Casually, almost disarmingly good looking, Matthew has aged well, he is in his late thirties, but could be mistaken for a man in his late twenties, with natural, thick hair, and a relatively unlined face. He is clearly trim and in shape, and his taste in clothes demonstrate a man who has experienced a great deal of success in his life, and the money that comes with it, though he could hardly be called arrogant. He keeps his hair fairly short, though with enough length for it to always be just a little short of falling into his eyes. He favours a clean shaven look, and prefers the attentions of a Turkish barber though he will perform it himself if necessary, he has an appearance to maintain after all.

Whatever he does clearly allows him time for exercise, and his expensive, well cut clothes make it clear that he is trim and in shape, with solid layers of muscle concealed beneath his shirt. He has a faint tan, not from the sunbeds, but from time spent in warmer climes, though it is faint enough to make it clear that he is no sun worshipper.

Matthew is a charming man, he’s a gentleman, with impeccable manners, a truly chivalrous nature, and a proclivity for brutally murdering metahumans. A humanitarian, he will never put himself before others, and is, above all, willing to sacrifice himself for the betterment of humanity. In particular the part of humanity that doesn’t wield terrifying, reality defying powers.

Thanks perhaps to his experience as a lawyer he has the knack for earning people’s trust, for speaking to someone for but a few moments and behaving easily and comfortably in their presence, like old friends reunited after years. He can be kind, and fiercely loyal to those he calls a friend. He doesn’t particularly enjoy violence, but is a man who is willing to do what must be done, or at least what he feels must be done.

Truthfully, he struggles with what he does, but knows that someone has to return balance to the world. He tries to give them a chance, but after enough time they all trip up, they all demonstrate that they believe themselves to be better than normal humans, and then the terrible, cold rage comes over.

Street fighting – There is no true art of fighting that Matthew is familiar with, but he has spent the last five years killing people, he can fight well, and he fights dirty, with no rules, no honour. It is just brutal, vicious efficiency intended to put down an opponent as quickly as possible, without concern for their health.
Lawyer – For years Matthew was one of the most successful lawyers in America, he may have left the profession behind, but he still knows his way around the law. It also means he is good at making people believe what he says, at trusting his interpretation of things.

Matthew seeks closure, to feel like whatever mission he has is done. He is almost like a ghost, seeking to finalise its unfinished business, but his obsession will not allow closure, it will not allow relief, and he will spiral further into a dark and murderous state of mind from which he may never emerge.

Matthew Drake was the last person you would expect to be a killer, a successful lawyer, he began a career as a defence lawyer. It paid well, and he was good at it, so it paid even better, but he was never truly comfortable in his job. He was an intelligent man with a passion for the law, and working as a defence attorney merely showed him how easily it could be twisted and manipulated to say whatever you want. Still he was very good at it, and he enjoyed doing what he was good at, as many do, and pushed his protesting conscience to the side in favour of profit and success.

He met a young lawyer there, a woman with an equal passion for her job, albeit with rather less flair than he himself possessed. She was young, attractive, and intelligent, and he fell in love with her, even beyond. Those who knew him agreed that it was a little too fast to really be healthy, but Matthew was infatuated, he didn’t listen to the warnings of his close friends. Of course it was excessively unprofessional for co-workers to sleep together, even more so considering that he was her superior, but they kept the affair a secret until it ended, suddenly. He’d assigned her to a case defending a young metahuman, one who had been accused of abusing his abilities to commit crimes.

He had sworn his innocence, and whether he was or not later became a moot point. He snapped under the pressure, and murdered eight people in the court room before being disabled and detained by NEST. Elizabeth Shriver was one of the eight, he’d snapped her neck with a single careless blow. The worst part of it all is that he should have been in the room, he was the lead chair in the case, but he’d been running late. Matthew knew only too well that he could have stopped the deaths of everyone in that room, but most of all Elizabeth. He left his job, disappeared for three weeks, and when he returned he had no interest in acting as a defence attorney, joining the DA’s office to become a prosecutor.

He worked tirelessly for four years, worked himself into the ground, and though he frequently got his man, too often did he see criminal metahumans, benefitted by a system that had never been equipped to deal with them. Every victory he achieved was made all the more hollow by those battles he lost, and he grew into a deeper depression, until finally taking the advice of his friends and family and quit. He was a wealthy man, without enough to retire in luxury, but at least enough to live comfortably for some time.

Unfortunately, without his work he grew deeper into depression, and even further into obsession, he would never be able to truly gain closure, the man who killed his love was imprisoned in one of the highest security prisons in America, and would remain so until he died of old age. So Matthew sought closure elsewhere. A gangbanger with the ability to slice flesh with his fingers, released thanks to a broken chain of custody in evidence, was sliced apart in an alley. A woman who had slaughtered two of her co-workers in a moment of rage. She had been released when the arresting officer was found to have searched her apartment without a warrant. She was never found.

Matthew knew enough about the system not to get caught, and he grew gradually more convinced that the law couldn’t deal with them, it didn’t know how to deal with people who thought themselves gods. He’d had to take the law into his own hands. He kills those who have escaped justice, those who, in his mind, believe themselves superior. The arrogance, the superiority of metahumans had to be dealt with, and DOVE and RAVEN were more concerned with looking after their wellbeing than teaching them how to operate in a human society. So Matthew would have to be societies dark knight, judge, jury and executioner.

Power

Simply put, Matthew passively saps the metahuman energy of anyone within thirty feet of him. This ability acts instantly on metahumans, and only functions when they attempt to utilise their ability, that is to say, that should they attempt to use their ability, Matthew’s ability will instantly absorb the energy that would have been expended in the use of the power, effectively rendering the metahuman powerless while they are within the radius of his power.

This means that metahuman’s will feel just as drained as they would do after any use of their ability, while receiving none of the benefits. It can even have a limited effect on abilities that have effected physical changes upon the metahuman in question. Though they will still be able to utilise whatever benefits the physical changes bestow upon them, they will tire out significantly more rapidly than they would in any other situation.

He can manipulate this aura, that is to say, the radius, expanding it from the surface of his skin, up to thirty feet about himself, and anything in between, at will. It will always make him immune to abilities that affect him directly, such as healing or telepathy, that is unconditional.

Metahumans that are outside of his radius can still affect him, so, for example, a metahuman who can throw fire can still engulf him in flames, or a metahuman that wields powerful, matter destroying lasers can still cut him in half. As long as it does not rely upon manipulating his body or mind to have an effect. Metahumans who possess enhanced strength that has gifted them with far denser musculature can still use their strength, though they will tire more easily, as he cannot rob them of the physical changes their abilities have gifted them. This ‘theft’ of metahuman energy can also not induce ashing, no matter how far he pushes the metahuman in question, and he has tried, the most he can push them to is unconsciousness.

Though he has not yet discovered his limit, it is likely that attempting to suppress any more than six or seven metahumans at a time will tax his abilities sorely, and should they persist in trying to break the effect they may even induce ashing in him as he absorbs more power than his system can deal with.
