Most people know of or have heard of the Salem witch trials, in which they would hunt down women and men - and sometimes animals - accused of using witchcraft. These so-called ‘witches’ would be forced into a trial to prove their innocence, which would typically result in the accused’s death.
Witchcraft has risen again, in certain individuals. These people were phenomenons in the public eye, and gained attention from everywhere. There were videos, posts, blogs, and pictures dedicated to making these miracles widely known and famous. However, an incident occurred, changing that drastically.
One day, a young witch, by the name of Merletta Backus, used her powers to commit a mass murder of hundreds of people in a small town in Wyoming. That’s when the Hunts began.
In the beginning, the Hunts were merely the police hunting Merletta down, to stop her from any more violent acts and to bring her to justice. Unfortunately, citizens without power took it much farther. Some believed that the witches were going to turn against them and use them for their own purposes, essentially taking over the world. Soon, there was a decree that any witch, or person assisting a witch, would be taken in, questioned, and then locked away in a prison built to prevent them from using their abilities.
Chaos ensued. Hundreds of the world’s witches were hunted down and brought into world governments, eventually sent to the prison or taken in for testing. There are very few left, and those that are have gone into hiding, seeking refuge with other witches, or with humans that disapprove of the Hunts. The witches that have grouped together call themselves ‘Covens’.
