In a similar case, all EMTs and Paramedics are supposed to learn Sign Language as a back-up in case they ever have to deal with a patient that isn't able to speak. 

This means Allen would know sign language. Though, I will only give him as much knowledge of signing that I know myself. I use to take a sign language class a few years back.
