Yep. But even in friends groups there are some that might not be 'bffs.' If you don't feel the need to put the symbol, don't worry about it. 

[b]Edit[/b]: Actually, why don't do this. If they are a closer friend than the others, put a * before their name but if they are a character your character crushes on, put the heart symbol.
