"My weapon? From one of my enemies of course. A ex-paladin, who had gotten it into his head that all elves must die. I was hired to protect a caravan of elvish trades from him, and when he came around I fought him. He broke my original sword, but I managed to disarm him and kill him with his own weapon. In an ironic twist, I think this sword grow more powerful when I used it against him... I guess when a holy knight falls, he falls hard." Catarina wished she had a better story, but that was it. The fight wasn't even that long; the paladin fought more like a barbarian than a knight, just swinging his weapon at Catarina with reckless abandon. When his sword got stuck into a tree, that's when Catarina was able to knock him away from his sword, tear it out of the tree, and cut him in twain. They were making good time. Despite Catarina's worries that it may take them weeks, due to Malkus's unceasing march, they were able to make it within the day, albeit into the night. But the city was within sight at least, so Catarina had nothing to complain about. She noticed Vivian stirring and this time Catarina wasn't so embarrassed at her, since her clothing had dried up in the sun. "Good morning. Or rather, good night. Looks like you just woke up right as we're near the city. I'd say it's about an hour or two off, assuming we don't run into anything on the way." As if the universe wanted to spite her, Vivian asked the others if they could see something in the distance. Due to the setting sun, Catarina couldn't see too far, so she had to take out her binoculars and look. It was hard to make out the details in the dark, but it looked like... Orcs. And smelled like trouble. Actually, it smelled like death. "It looks like orcs, but... Dammit. I seem more coming from the sands. They're coming slowly... I think they might be undead." Catarina had heard tales of the desert sands bringing the dead to life, haunting the highways and seeking the living to join their ranks. Considering that they had just left a temple of Nerull, it didn't take Catarina long to guess that this wasn't just a myth. "Malkai, do you think you can outrun them? I don't have enough time to suit up, but I can pick them off with my crossbow." Sure enough Catarina took a seated shooting position, trying to aim at the zombie in the distance. It was going to be a hard shot due to Malkai's rocking and the distance, but if she was lucky maybe she could take their head off before they could get into melee.
