Cyrano had to eat the item to absorb it, and I'd didn't clarify this but, but when I initially played him, the effects were up to the dm and not always good. I was going to with permission of course, leave it up to the dm[@Polybius] again. 
I will happily change characters or the nature of Cyrano as well of course, if needed.
