Simba knew that finding out whether or not the other creatures were friendly was a good reason to talk to them, but it was still a risk. While Simba hoped his companion didn't take his comment the wrong way he was more concerned about her getting hurt in  case of a fight. Of course he was worried about himself too but he believed he was the physical stronger of the two. Nervously he made his way to the group.
