[@FallenTrinity] Knowing the basics of the universe is instrumental in my opinion - if you don't anything about the tech, biotics, aliens etc. Then you will have a hard time - but I'm sure both myself and others can help you along - and there's always the wikia you could spruce your knowledge up on.
So it shouldn't be too much of a problem. ^_^
