Even in the face of armageddon, I will not compromise in this.” -Rorschach (Watchmen)

The year is 2016, and the world is imperiled. The Cold War rages, and is beginning to heat up. The United States, with its government focused single mindedly on being better than its enemies, has become a veritable cesspool of crime. Gun and gang violence is at an all-time high. There’s been a resurgence of organized crime. Rape, murder, theft, all are daily facts of life, nowhere more so than in the city of Ankora, in the Midwestern United States. A relatively new city, Ankora started out as a farming town, but quickly became a bustling metropolis when several companies established headquarters in the city. Unfortunately, with the companies came the criminals. It wasn’t long before Ankora’s primary export became corpses. The city’s police force proved unable to handle the problem. In fact, in several instances they caused the problems. Ankora, on the verge of collapse, prayed for heroes. Instead, they got high schoolers in Halloween costumes. The citizens of Ankora were understandably skeptical. To their surprise, those high schoolers who got their asses kicked by street thugs on weekends grew into fairly capable vigilantes. The original group of six grew into a massive, World-wide organization of Peacekeepers. The Peacekeepers, as they took to calling themselves, was a group of a few hundred loosely affiliated Vigilantes, keeping the peace in their cities. The Peacekeepers lasted for about ten years, and for a good chunk of that time, the world actually saw some relative peace. Unfortunately, due to public fear over the power of the Peacekeepers, anti-Vigilante legislation, widespread corruption, and the death of two of the founding members, the Peacekeepers disbanded in 2006. It soon became illegal to be a non-government affiliated vigilante. Crime, corruption, and the constant threat of war hang over not just Ankora, or the U.S., but the whole world. Now, more than ever, the World needs Heroes.
Heyo! Welcome, RPers to my Watchmen-inspired RP. Here, I’d like to delve into a concept I don’t see very often in RP’s, non-superhuman heroes and society’s reaction to them. [s]I’d like about five players (Not including myself)[/s] More interest than I thought I'd recieve. No limit on players (yet). So, without further ado, let’s outline the world a bit more, shall we?

This world is quite similar to our own in terms of technology and culture. It differs, however, in one major respect. The Cold War never ended. The Soviet Union is still intact, and America is no longer allied with any countries outside of its own continent. Western European nations are all claiming neutrality, but if things continue to escalate, they’ll need to pick sides sooner or later. The USSR has also spread significantly, covering most of Asia and Eastern Europe. Aside from what I’ve just outlined, go wild.

“Vigilantes” is the commonly accepted term for Masked (helmeted, un-masked, armored, etc.) Heroes who keep the peace. “Hero” isn’t as often used because, put simply, many Vigilantes are not heroes. Some are straight-up villains. Others are Punisher-esque villain murderers. They do all have one thing in common, none of them are super-powered. Well, not beyond what’s possible for a human to achieve. There are rumors of Government Vigilantes who have their limbs replaced with metal prosthetics, complete with all sorts of built in gadgetry. The Soviets are just now using vigilantes who have been trained as soldiers from birth, giving them seemingly superhuman ability. It should be assumed that there can be some soft sci-fi technologies (i.e. grappling hooks, maybe some cloaking tech), however these would be expensive. If your character has these, how did they get them?

The Vigilance accord started as a piece of U.S. legislation, but was later adopted by all major countries. It basically stated that all Vigilantes had to either retire or enter the employ of the Government. Those in Government employ would be assigned a federal handler. The handler, in turn reported to the Government. The Vigilante would be given missions and patrol routes, basically becoming a soldier. The Vigilante could be sent on out of country missions, should the need be. Non-governmental vigilantism is a crime in it of itself, carrying a sentence between 2-10 years. Beyond this, any crimes committed while being a vigilante, even against convicted criminals, would carry their normal sentence. This has led to a sharp drop in Vigilantism as of recently.

To be updated as I receive CS’s and make NPC’s

Ankora is a city in the Midwestern United States. It’s fairly new, only having existed for about 25 years. The name comes from the latin word ancora, which directly translates to “yet”, but is often held as meaning “hope.” Ankora is divided into several districts. There’s a Downtown area, some richer suburbs, and more traditional residential area. The description I’ve given is purposefully vague. Go wild with it.

You can format this however you’d like, I’m not picky. I do require that it have the following. Name: (Your character’s actual name.) Age: (How old is your character.) Gender: (Exactly what it says on the tin) Appearance: (Either a paragraph on what they look like, or an image with a short description. Real images, anime, detailed art. It matters not.) Bio: (Backstory. How did they become a Vigilante? What have they done so far?) Personality: (I’m pretty lax here. Write however much you can. Few sentences, at the very least.) Vigilante Name: (What does your character go by when they fight or perpetrate crime?) Costume: (Paragraph or image. Include any special features it might have.) Abilities/Skills: (Remember, you are a human being.) Equipment: (Guns, swords, grappling hooks, pepper spray, themed throwing knives, etcetera. What does your character carry around to help them fight or perpetrate crime?) Alignment: (Based on the classical alignments, Neutral good, lawful evil, etc. Bonus points if you describe why.) Reputation: (What does the public think of them?) Accord Compliance: (Does your character comply with the accord? Are they working for the government? Are they illegally punching baddies in the face? Are they baddie themselves?)

And that’s what I’ve got so far, tell me, are you interested?
Theme (I know, I could have used Desolation Row, but that would’ve been too easy. Granted, not that using a song featured in a different Alan Moore work takes much more effort.) [@Guess Who][@FantasyChic][@Kaithas][@Amelian Draco][@POOHEAD189][@ProjectOdin][@Heat][@fluorescent]
