[/quote] I'm not saying that you just drop the word "magic" as a cure all but in many cases there is no reason why specially medically oriented spellcasters couldn't treat diseases. Also if we're looking for a fae disease that transitioned into the human world how about European Sweating Sickness? Appeared almost overnight, killed something like a third of the European population and vanished just as quickly.
