[@Ojo chan 42] How about the father tried to capture the kelpie but had iron on him, or something, and ended up killing her?  Clyde is understandably upset, and he goes to drown not the father first but his adult daughter, since that will be a loss that will cut more deeply before he kills the man himself.  Then the woman goes towards the sea and the other kelpie turns up, etc.
