The mechanics of war have undergone major changes following a grueling process which was unwittingly set in motion during the early 60s. Enemies no longer carry flags, uniforms or gear exclusive to their motherland. They no longer speak their language, their accents coated by a thick sludge of deception. The wars we fight in the modern era are silent, bloody and unpredictable. There is no designated battle zone. There is no code of conduct. When the situation elevates, nobody is safe. It's the year 2016. The US Government continues it's efforts to combat terrorism. The twist is; the threat of terrorism is more imminent than it was sixteen years ago. While the US were raising their shields in response to the actions of foreign insurgents, especially Middle Eastern ones, their circuits were fried on the inside by their own citizens. Tagging themselves as a populist militia group, an organization known as the "True Patriots" have decided to take it upon themselves to punish the 'wicked', those who oppress the majority for their own financial gain. They publicized their existence in July of 2013, after taking responsibility for an attack on a private security firm in Detroit. The company's stocks plummeted and with it so did a lot of Wall Street investors. Later that day, they also released a broadcast revealing their intentions. The fact that a terrorist attack happened under everyone's noses took the world by surprise, shock even. Public support for the "True Patriots" initially grew, but then dwindled after another attack on US soil that resulted in civilian casualties. The American intelligence community and law enforcement agencies were helpless in foreseeing and preventing the oncoming threats, while the "True Patriots" influence spread internationally. They were no longer an isolated issue, prompting NATO to send in their most effective counter-terrorism unit - RAINBOW. With Team Echo on the forefront, the unit's tasked with averting potential attacks and ending the "True Patriots" once and for all. The unit's modus operandi dictates that the only way to deal with such a force is by employing extreme measures with no regard for ethics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, and welcome to my RP. If you thought this sounded familiar, that's because it is. Uncharacteristically of myself, I've decided to give fandoms a shot, although I'm not gonna play it straight. The concept is heavily based on Rainbow 6: Patriots, an installment in the long running Rainbow series that was scrapped in favor of Rainbow Six: Siege. As someone who fell in love with the idea of an OWS-inspired terrorist group and a special forces unit who uses brute force to counter them, I was disappointed when I heard the news. So, if I couldn't play the game, I thought I could convert it into a textual format. Because there are different reiterations of Rainbow Six throughout the years, I've come up with new additions of my own aside from mix and matching some of the canon elements. You don't need to have played any of the games to understand what's going on. The RP will begin in medias res, with Echo Team en route to stop an ongoing terrorist attack in an American city. The mission will be a game changer for RAINBOW. The structure of the RP works similar to a videogame; team embarks on a mission, once mission's over you'll get what I like to call a "breather", an in-between story mini-arc in which you'll get the chance to further flesh out your character and interact with others. If there happens to be two teams, then the second team will either act as support for the first one, or they might be on a different mission in a different part of the world altogether. Rarely, it might happen so that one team gets a breather, while the other goes on a mission. My character will be team leader for Echo, where as one of you can apply for leadership in the other team. There's a catch though; to be team leader, you must also be co-GM. Different plot points shall be spoiled for you early on and you're gonna have to practically run this RP alongside me. Think about it. Teams can also exchange members with one another, granted as long as the participants agree to the exchange. Regarding the tone of the RP, I'm gonna show you an example of a gameplay prototype launched five years ago. I urge you to watch it. It might feel weird using a visual presentation to describe the RP's tone, but I really can't put it in words. I will try to capture the paranoia and grit of post-9/11 USA. I also don't want you to misinterpret my words; I know I said the operatives will use extreme force no matter the cost, however I don't want you to go out completely disregarding civilian life. Aside from the team dynamic, I also want to see how your characters react when given orders that clash with ethics. At the start of each mission, I'm gonna throw in a note which sums up the nature of the op and the preferred loadout. You have the option to choose from every weapon in existence thus far, however if the mission's stealth, then you can't bring a grenade launcher with you. I also am not gonna allow you to carry weapons that are outdated, as it wouldn't make any sense. Now that we got that out of the way, I'd like to address the "rules". And I'm really not gonna take my time in explaining those with another paragraph. Just don't do anything that clashes with Guild etiquette, be respectful to me and other participants; any complaints you have, direct them to me and I'll resolve them. Feedback is appreciated. If you have any questions, shoot away. I'll be glad to answer them to you. That's about it, really.
