He always learned that you just had to stand up for yourself once. But he figured that today, the first day of school, was not a good day to do that. He just grinded his teeth a little and went towards his room. Which soon would be unmistakenly his. The staves he put in a corner, and he wasted no time putting away his old books. Put quite a bit of dust in the room. On his desk, he laid out every single item he had. It all ranged from keys to rings to wands and sometimes just a sack of cheap crystals. But to Alex, they each held great importance. He grabbed one of the many keys he had, and pushed in the door lock and uttered: Signa quasi lapis Signa ut glaciem Sed ad unum Quam ego nunc The key in his hand vibrated a little. Satisfied he pulled it back out. No pesky roommate would get access to his room. Not unless he had the key. Not just any key that would fit. His key. He named it the Janus key, after the Roman named god of gates and doors. He didn’t really have a Greek equivalent. So Alex hoped his mother didn’t take too much offense at it. Putting the key back he turned around and looked at the room. For some old reason the old books, still filled with latent magical energies from their long deceased (or not?) authors. Most of the energies a person’s soul emits are personal and unique. A soul’s spiritual force is much like it’s DNA. But one thing all books infused with this spiritual force seem to have in common is that they attract dust. Like a power bank, dust just gathers around it and seems to stick to it. Even now Alex knew that he either had to clean often or just live in a dusty room. Proud of his work, he threw himself on the bed with The 1ste Grimoire of Circe. A powerful witch from Ancient times. Even the first volume, written back when she was very young, was a constant goldmine of new arcane knowledge. He also pulled out his phone, checking for messages. He got one from Cecily.
To: Cecily That bad? Want Gremlins to steal his socks?
One thing with Alex is that you can never quite know if he’s joking when he says things like: “Want me to summon a Nightmare?” or “Should I conjure a murder to harass her?” He could be joking, then again, he summoned a bunch of crows before. And some do claim they saw him talking a weird gibberish language to some strange miniature creatures. Alex made a point of never sharing fully what he could do. So he could always pull out a surprise from somewhere. And from all the items on his desk he could pull a lot of surprises.
