Since Zeltrons have a certain degree of telepathy and can read emotions, etc, maybe she is being used by an organization (whether criminal or otherwise), to help them in negotiations, disputes, etc. Or, they send her in to [i]persuade[/i] a target to join their cause. I mean you don't have to go with anything too stereotypical (i.e. a sexual predator who likes to party all the time), but try to find some use for her racial skills that aren't too over the top. 

As for a shared backstory, my character has spent some time on the seedier planets, generally in between jobs as a merc (since Imperial Intelligent was more or less defunct) so perhaps our characters crossed paths a few times on [insert planet here].
