[@Holy Soldier] Yeah, you had these 'wardens' which was just a fancy term for a duke. 

Everything within GoT could've been placed under a similar realistic historical term and it would've been the same. :lol Historically there were also petty kings, like English kings in 800-1200 when England wasn't so unified.
