Name: Nadya Alexandrovna Volkov-Johnson (Волков-Джонсон Надя Александровна) Nickname: Let the characters think of one - maybe she'll let you use it. Age: 26 Gender: Female, lest mine eyes doth deceiveth me. Nationality: Russian-American Appearance: Nadya is a modest 5'5" (and a half, she insists) and hardly heavy. Her piercing blue-green eyes are bordered by a pair of studded piercings she got in college. For work, she covered her tattoos with a lab coat and only wear her ear piercings until she got home or went out for recreation. The tattoos were another decision she made throughout her college years one of her favorites is plastered across her back - it's a rather detailed scene of a bear and an eagle reaching for one another in battle to represent her mixed roots. An unraveled 'banner' design borders the top and bottom, one reading God Is With Us and the lower says С Нами Бог in a Cyrillic cursive. Almost all of her others are purely artistic, save for a few. Her most important is located on her right hip; it's a Chicago Police badge with an angel wing decal on either side and the name Derek Johnson printed over the badge itself. Underneath it says Serve & Protect.

In-Depth Personality: Nadya is an openly caring and surprisingly vulnerable soul - the world that is fast approaching is one that many would say she is not fit for. However, she was raised not with tough skin, but rather with a malleable spirit and a hard head. In one word, she could be described as compassionate. Due to this more sensitive side, Nadya is a more skilled medical expert (see background - Emergency Room Nurse) and friend. On the other hand, it also means that even at work she takes each and every loss quite personally and in force. Being a mother, Nadya also has an overwhelmingly nasty protective side, even for friends and the defenseless. Thanks to her work in the Emergency Room, despite her empathy, the former nurse has a strong stomach and hardly flinches at the sight of blood or even something as significant as a seizure. She has a very professional attitude when the pressure rises, but as soon as the dust has settled, Nadya turns a switch from the girl that only her co-workers would know to one that they would think they had never met. Character background: Born in Saint Peterburg, Russia, Nadya grew up in a Russian-speaking household. Her mother and father were divorced when she was rather young, so her memory serves her better when it comes to her mother's second husband - the man she called papa. He was an American studying abroad for his Doctorate of Science and after he finished his work in Russia, he was able to take his new wife and step-daughter with him to the U.S. There, she grew up outside of Baltimore, Maryland before moving to Columbus, Ohio for her own undergraduate education in Nursing. She had clearly adapted well to the American Private School system, as opposed to Russia's public one. After receiving her first degree, she found a job working in a Chicago Emergency Room and was also thusly accepted to a part-time Master's Degree program in a highly renown school there. Amidst all of this, Nadya met her future husband, Derek. He was a fresh Police Academy graduate and, like her, he wanted to make the world a better place, but rather as a protector than a savior. In a city like Chicago, with all of the other stress Nadya dealt with, the last thing she needed was a man on the Force to think about all day - a man that she knew could be the next one wheeled in on a cart with no hope. Time and time again she turned him away. Finally, she caved in to his request when he showed up in her ER with a bullet hole in his shoulder after he made a joke about finding a fight just to get dropped there. Not even her parents know which came first - the baby or the ring - but they got married just under a year later. Thus ended the happy, albeit hardest-working, part of Nadya's life. Two years after they got married, Derek was killed in a firefight. But, unlike she thought, he was not rolled in on her shift. No, it happened in the middle of the day, while she was taking a nap during one of the rare moments that her son, Joseph, was not begging for attention. She answered the door in pyjamas and a man stood there before her with stars on his uniform's shoulder boards and a cap in his hand. At his side stood a Chaplain. She can't even remember how she told Joseph that his father would not be coming home, or how she told her mother... Or when she let Joseph go to Maryland to spend the summer with his grandparents... She can't recall a mere summer turning into the rest of the year... Before she knew it, Nadya was visiting her son, rather than his grandparents coming to visit him. He always said how much he missed her, but they talked all the time. Her house was always a mess after Derek's passing and she said that as soon as she finished her degree and got a less crazy job, then she would move out to Maryland to be with the whole family. Her father said he knew a Johns Hopkins Alum who could get her transferred, but she almost done already - it would be simpler to just stay where she was, after all. Just as she was reaching the culmination of her degree, Joseph turned two - she felt like she'd missed so much. Maybe not his first steps or words, but everything else were naught but photos. But never again, she vowed. She just had to put in a couple extra hours this fall and she could finish early - maybe spend some of her pent-up vacation time to get in the extra papers and projects, then she could move. That's when it happened... It started as reports in the warmest parts of the world - this new disease was spreading. Is sounded like a weirdly mutated Rabies with the infectivity of HIV. It seemed more than abnormal, but surely it would be contained. Then it started traveling north - it seemed more serious than previously thought. Nadya was already packing to go back to Maryland, only a little bit of time. She didn't quite get to finish her degree - she had to extend just one more semester, but she was ready to move already. Her apartment lease was nearly terminated and her notice was already in at work. Days before she was going to move, her parents called and said they were going farther North - to meet them in Toronto, at their second apartment there. They claimed not to be afraid of the infection, but were just erring on the side of caution. Nadya understood - plus, it was a closer drive and she was happy they were protecting Joseph. They were getting older, so staying ahead of the danger was their best option. Equipment: The only reason she has most of the survival gear in her pack happens to be because her husband made sure to have it in the house - she rarely used it before everything happened. > Her late husband’s SIG P226 Elite SAO (9mm) with 2(+1 loaded/3) magazines (15 rounds) > Kukri machete attached to her belt > Single-strap backpack with her small supply of food and water and limited amounts of: > Roll of duct tape > Medical tape > Several medical masks and a crushed box of Medium-sized latex gloves > Gauze > Wound disinfectant > Current clothes: > Jacket > Cargo Pants > Combat Boots > Nike Ohio State Ball Cap > Shooting Gloves Weapons: Her husband's pistol and the machete [sub]**By putting this CS up in the OOC for approval, you have read all of the rules and have agreed to have fun. Vincent is rarely seen without his co-worker and most trusted companion. He doesn’t have a single piercing, tattoo, or facial hair on him. His eyes are a dull grey, seemingly tired and simultaneously full of ambition. His back is marked with a few scars and permanent blemishes. In-Depth Personality: Sergeant Griffon is a flexible, constantly adapting officer. He knows when he holds all of the cards, but has never been one to show them or play unless he thinks it absolutely necessary. Vincent has always been an optimist and grew up as that boy who knew from his earliest school years that he wanted nothing more than a uniform and to say he helped people every single day. Rarely does he stick to or make a fully cohesive plans. After all, he strongly believes in the ‘life is what happens when you’re too busy making other plans’ line and refuses to overthink any situation. This doesn’t mean he lacks the ability to strategize or wait for the right moment to act, it simply states that when he sees an opportunity that would help him, he will take it. Character background: There have been few with whom Vincent has spoken to about his very early childhood, but each scar tells the story of a boy raised in an unpleasant district of Moscow. His father was a discharged soldier with a drinking problem and his mother worked long hours. The situation was a rotten one, no doubt, but when he showed up to school in third grade with yet another black eye that he couldn’t explain without tearing up through the lie, the friends and other members of the family finally got involved. Nobody knew that Mr. Griffon’s problem had gotten so out of hand and Vince’s grandparents took him and his mother into their home in Vancouver. The cross country move was a lot for such a young boy, and honestly he had no idea what was really happening back then either, he just knew that his mother promised that life would get better if he would just do what she said. Sergeant Griffon went to college for two years in Vancouver to stay close to his family, but Canada is large and they knew it wouldn’t last. He was too ambitious and when he got accepted to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, they saw him off to the Academy. After showing his ability to work loyally and under pressure in Toronto, they let him apply for and transfer to the Police Dog Services unit, where he was taught to work with and care for his new, still-a-puppy companion: Roman. After the dog’s training was complete, he was grown and the pair were inseparable. Work started surprisingly slowly in his new unit, still located in Toronto. He was shocked, honestly, after being told it had potential to be a lot more dangerous than his previous station. However, when things began to pick up, they really started working. Cars were flooding the borders, so then-Caporal Griffon was moved to help with car searching. There were so many, they couldn’t search them all, but Vince’s take-charge attitude and ability to tell people things that they didn’t want to hear made him stand out. He made Sergeant just before the evacuation. Next came the hard part… Sergeant Griffon followed his unit back to the city and the force worked hard through the night for barely a couple of days to get the city evacuated. The border was abandoned – at this point, they just wanted everybody on this dying planet safe so they posted signs and left countless maps in the open guard booths marking the location that they were evacuating all of the citizens. There was going to be a military base up North, but when his ride was heading out, Vince refused. He wanted to make sure that everybody who wanted to get out did. He’d be following only a couple of days later, he assured them. Now, he’s just got to get his own affairs together and meet them back up North. He sent his uniform and most of his things up, keeping only what he needed to travel – including his badge, ID, and equipment. Other: Vincent grew up in a French-speaking home and it is his primary language. He can understand English, more or less, and has a working knowledge of how to use it but he is hardly comfortable in it.
