Ontraverse - a reality not far from ours. People living their everyday lives like they would do in our reality. Except for one major factor - there's magic involved. What we consider unbelievable and amazing, they think it's natural. They use magic for their everyday lives, for work and even for fighting. Ontraverse is a reality entered through a town in Alaska - Fairbanks. The people who live there experience their everyday lives normally, like humans. But those destined to achieve greatness find themselves in a town much different than that. Normal people can't see it, but the "destined" can. This town is like the one way gate between our worlds. Once entered, people never leave.

This world is run by magic.


Arcana shards are the items that shape this world. They have two purposes - To aid humanity, or to destroy it. Once consumed by a person, it grants that person the ability to cast a spell created by their imagination. The first spell that pops into their mind gets shaped and formed, thus making the person able to use this ability. Although, if the shard is destroyed, the magical essence gathered in the shard breaks free, and forms a beast dangerous to man even with magical abilities. These ferocious creatures feed from the imagination of Ontraversa's life. You know those bed time stories mothers tell their kids about dragons and goblins? Well, if a shard is broken, the magical essence takes form of a creature from a child's imagination, of course, making it ten times as dangerous and demonic-looking.

These shards never run out. They will never disappear from this world. They were created with the world itself, and are still there up to this day. A cast magical spell has two powers - the magical power, and the soul power. The magical power is what makes the spell come real, and the soul power is what generates new shards. This Soul power is gathered in one area - The tree of life, in the middle of the world, and once gathered enough, the tree spawns a shard at a random place in the world. That's what decides whether it will be a shard or a monster - if it falls on grass, then it will survive, or anything soft in that matter. But if it breaks while falling from a meter high spawn point - it will spawn a monster.


Every person that first enters Ontraversa, or is born in the world, has two spells predefined for them, and may learn new spells with these shards. The spells they have and obtain depend on them, and no one else, so everyone in Ontraversa is unique. The possibilities for magic are unlimited.


Fairbanks Legion - A group of people in control of the Fairbanks town economy. You could call it mafia. They collect debts, money for protection from shops, and in general protect their town as their territory from their rivals or just monsters that attack the town. They're both respected and feared in Fairbanks, and they have control over anything that goes on. Even the mayor listens to them.
When new members join, they have to pledge their loyalty to the legion by making a specific symbol tattoo on their right shoulder that's basically a circle and letters FB in it, and they also memorize their pledgement words:
I, ____, pledge my trust and obedience to those who stand higher in our family.
I swear not to betray, kill, or insult anyone from this same alliance.
It is not just a legion, it is a family, and thus has to be preserved.
I swear to serve my masters whatever mission I might get, and I swear to always stay true to myself.

Keep in mind that the starting abilities are not your only ones, so leave space for progress. :)

Now, a little about the roleplay itself.
When you start, you're already a member of the Legion for a short while (1-2 weeks). How this works is our legion seeks as much power as possible. We start small, with only this town at our feet, but we will progress, and rule more than just this. You will be assigned missions by the Legion Leader, which you will have to do. Be it a debt collection from a shopkeeper, or a dangerous mission into some ancient ruins barried deep underground. Mission rejection is not taken lightly unless with a proper excuse. Mission rewards also vary depending on the difficulity. The missions are what will progress the main plotline, but your adventures form your life inside this world, and it is up to you how you live.
You do not have to always do the quests and missions offered by the Legion Leader. You can suggest and act out your own quests. Just inform one of the GM's of the quest you want to do and go a little in detail, but don't spoil anything, and if you get accepted, you can act out as if the Leader gave you the mission.

Name: Troy Slinks

Background(Optional): Troy was born in Ontraversa. He was born in a poor family who could barely afford to live. North of Fairbanks stood a small town where he lived with his parents. Even though they all posessed magical abilities, only Troy could go out hunting for food or to sell what he gathers. His mom was a healer, and his dad had unusual abilities. His dad was very sick, so whatever abilities he had, Troy didn't see them. Not once. Troy was born when his father was already in bed. When Troy was out hunting, a group of bandits killed his parents and left their bodies hanging from the ceiling. When Troy saw them, he mourned for three days before deciding to take off into a real life. His first destination was Fairbanks, as it was the biggest city around. When he arrived there, he got help from Zack, the leader of the Legion, and so he became a part of it.

Arcana Circle - A circle with various magical symbols around it appears under Troy's feet upon activating this skill, which allows him to leap again while in the air, causing a double jump.

Twin Blades - Duplicates his dagger into his other hand, which can be used for both fighting and throwing. The dagger disperses after thirty seconds.

Other: Troy always carries a dagger with him as a weapon. This dagger was a gift to him from his father for his sixteenth birthday. It once belonged to his grandfather.

Yay! I finally completed my CS draft! Hopefully I can get it here soon to show you all.

Breljorn I have a question about the arcana circles. Can they simply be stood on if desired? I don't see a problem with that myself. It would allow your character walk on air if you wanted him to which sounds pretty cool to me.

Name: Sarah Goodman

Age: 19

Appearance:

Height/Build: Sarah Goodman is 5 foot 7 inches tall without any aids to her height (besides thin soled trainers).
Tattoos: Sarah has a pair of ivory coloured angel wings tattooed on her back. The wing tips stop just shy of her hips.
Clothes/Fashion: Sarah has a tendency for bright punk style clothing that make her stand out from the crowd. Striped thumbless and fingerless gloves that stretch up her forearms are a must and a bright red woollen tank top with jeans and a beanie hat is just one example of an outfit she might wear.

Personality: Sarah Goodman is a kindly, cheerful girl despite her struggles and her line of work (which she performs simply because she has no other skills of note). She generally shies away from violence and is happy to help people. She is completely unaware of Angel's presence in her mind.

Biography: Sarah was born to a wealthy family with a strong heritage and tradition of joining the Fairbanks Legion. Each generation usually sent up their first born son for service in the legion. Female children however were considered a burden and thus raised and utilised as servants until they reached leaving age, at which point they were abandoned to the world outside.

Sarah's childhood was exceptionally stressful for her due to the nature of her family. Aside from daily schooling (permitted only so as to avoid state enquiries) she lived the servants life. Horrid corporeal punishments were standard for tasks performed incorrectly and she was used as a training dummy for her brother. Her brother, two years younger in age, would practice his ever growing range of combat magics upon her whilst she was forced to defend desperately with the capabilities of her body alone. This practice continued daily until she was fifteen when an incident happened that would change her life completely.

Sarah had been crying that day and, in order to conceal her tears had donned a black masquerade mask before entering the training hall in anticipation of another brutal beating. Her brother had laughed arrogantly at the sight of her in the mask and in that moment a switch was flicked. Sarah quite literally became a thing possessed and attacked him with previously unmatched ferocity. By the time Sarah's own consciousness had kicked back in her brother had been savaged to the point of requiring intensive care in hospital, limbs broken and his flesh torn. Sarah remembers nothing of what happened. Unbeknownst to her and those around her a second personality, Angel, had just been born. As a result of her misconduct the family set Sarah out on the streets to live alone.

Sarah lived the next few years of her life alone on the streets surviving by whatever means she could. She became involved in low level crime; theft and dealing are just two examples of the means she got by on and it turned out that, with some training, Sarah made an exceptional getaway driver whatever the vehicle was (as long as it had wheels). She hated her work but it earned her living and she has more or less come to terms with it as the status quo now. Angel's presence continued to grow stronger within Sarah and he handle some of the more unsavoury aspects of crime that Sarah would have flinched away from. The timely demise of many of Sarah's enemies helped facilitate her advancement on the ladder of organised crime.

In an awkward twist of fate Sarah found herself in the employ of another traditional Fairbanks Legion family doing some of their "side work" she was recruited into the legion when a member came to recruit their children and ran her through the tests as something of a joke. To the recruiters surprise he detected enormous magic potential within her and more or less purchased Sarah from the family to enter the legion as an apprentice magician.

Magic: Sarah is an apprentice magician. What this means is that she has been shown to have the latent ability to use magic but not yet mastered its use. In fact, despite tests having shown she has extraordinarily high magic potential, Sarah can't use a single spell, enchantment curse or otherwise.

Although Sarah doesn't know it she is actually a light magician and it is on the shadows cast by the light of Sarah's soul on which Angel feeds. If Sarah could tap into her light powers she would actually be significantly more powerful than Angel but Angel hides Sarah's powers from Sarah for the sake of her own survival.

Equipment:
Angels equipment.Angels equipment is ever present on Sarah, its position hidden from the minds of Sarah and those around her by Angel herself. This includes the masquerade mask Angel dons when she takes over.
Clothes and cosmetics. Sarah owns a number of changes of clothes and cosmetics. When she needs more she simply steals them. She always keeps at least one set of mechanics overalls on her person finding she can generally get into areas more easily and do far more tinkering than usual before her motives are questioned.
Masquerade mask. This mask is inseparably linked to Angels possession of Sarah. If Sarah wears it then Angel is in charge until Angel deems it time to take the mask off. Most of the time Sarah is unaware of the masks presence in her bag but when Angel wants out not only will she remind Sarah of its presence. She'll generate an inescapably strong urge to wear it within Sarah.
Rucksack. A low profile, ergonomic rucksack with straps at the waist and chest that make it ideal for running with. This contains most of Sarah's possessions and all of Angels.
Small Mechanics/Electicians Toolbox. It is amazing what one can gain access to with just a small selection of tools. A crowbar alone can help pry down the window to access a car and then with a screwdriver and pliers someone with the right knowledge can hotwire a car. Sarah keeps a small one of these in her bag with an array of tools she might need.
Alter ego

Name: "Angel"

Personality: Angel is quite literally a shadow of Sereta's soul and personality. An entity of darkness. Often Angel's goals are the same as Sarah's own however her morals are warped and her psyche unstable which results in Angel taking a completely different (usually brutally violent) route to achieving them. She is somewhat childish and takes morbid pleasure in violence. Unlike Sarah she is completely aware of the other personality that shares her body and see's everything Sarah does. She even has some control over Sarah. Her fighting style is comparable to that of an animal in her brutality

Appearance:
Upon taking over Sarah's body Angel changes her clothes in a flare of dark flames. This is simply an extension of one of her existing magic powers as opposed to an entirely separate one.

Clothes: The big themes in Angel's attire are black, and concealing. A baggy black hoody with baggy black sweatpants. Her light, high tech, thin-soled trainers are also black with the exception of the soles themselves which are white. The hoody has a small white clothes brand logo on. Other than this the only aspect of her clothing which is not black is the scrim scarf in olive green which is worn around the neck underneath Angel's hood. Angel's hood is perpetually up and appears to be fastened to the edges of her mask.
Height/Build: Approximately 5ft 9 inches tall Angel is built with a lithe figure that appears powerful yet agile. Obviously with her tenacity to wear concealing clothes it is hard to tell exactly what she is like underneath.
Facial features and eye colour: Angel's eyes appear to be bottomless black pits in the mask.
Skin tone/colour: Angel's skin is never on display and therefore impossible to ascertain the colour of.
Hair colour and Style: Angel's hair is never on display and thus impossible to ascertain the appearance of.
Scars/tattoos/birth-signs: Again, impossible to discern due to Angel's clothing.
Voice: Angel's voice is heavily distorted in its speech and possesses an eerie echo. Her speech is childlike and cheerful in its inflections which tends to come across horrifyingly morbid when she speaks.

Biography: Angel is a second personality within Sarah's body who manifested when Sarah was aged fifteen. She has since appeared with increasing regularity, particularly when violence is warranted. Unlike Sarah, Angel's crimes have included high profile murders and robberies of which rumours have spread like wildfire. As yet no one, not even Sarah, has made the connection between the two.

Magic:
Angel specialises in dark magic. The strength of the magic is formed by the shadows cast by Sarah's soul.

Disguise: Angel can engulf herself in shadows and create the appearance of being anyone else. Taller or shorter, male or female it doesn't matter as long as they are humanoid. The power tricks the mind of the observer as much as it fools the eyes and thus Angels voice will sound correct as well whilst this magic is in effect.
Shadow Overdrive (combat mode): In this mode Angels body develops ethereal wings comprised from shadow. These stretch out from his shoulders akin to those of a real angel. When Angel has this mode at its most powerful he emanates dark flames from his body. Like the wings the flames aren't actually present and serve no real purpose aside from acting as a release of energy. When in overdrive Angel is both stronger and faster.

Equipment:
High calibre pistol. Painted gloss black with a chromed silver skull engraved into each side of the top slide. As something of a sick joke at some point Angel has applied the warning sticker from a toy firearm to the custom rubberised grip of her real gun. In small text it reads "Do not point towards face or eyes. Hitting these areas may cause injury or induce blindness.".
Hollow point .50 rounds. These enormous, highly powerful bullets have their lethality improved further still by the implementation of a hollow point at the front which, upon impacting with an object, flattens out. The flat bullets front causes it to push through much more flesh and bone than even the .50 cal usually would causing truly horrific and devastating wounds.
Ballistic knife. A spring powered ballistic knife with an effective range of about 5 metres this weapon provides both an effective melee combat killing tool and short ranged silent killing tool. Upon firing the blade a second blade is pressed up into position. This blade is unable to be fired and is used only for melee combat. Reloading requires the twisting of the base to draw the stiff spring back into firing position then the reinsertion of the blade. As a consequence reloading takes some time.

Name: Xander "Cipher" Dimitriaski

Age:20

personality: Xander is a cold person when on missions, alienating himself even from those he works with. At the time a job starts he sees everyone as pieces on a board, either easily sacrificial or needed in terms of their abilities. However outside of missions he is a nice person, he tends to smile to others and greets people with a friendly wave or gesture. He isn't overly friendly but he is approachable, despite this his sudden change during jobs tends to leave people scared of getting close to him. He takes this in stride and let's it roll off his shoulders, in truth the less someone likes you/you like them the easier it is to fulfill jobs.

Background(Optional): Xander's father had been part of the fairbanks legion for well over four decades, he was a lightning wielder and hoped his powers would folow down the line, when Xander was born his father had been proud and happy that he had such a strong, healthy boy. When Xander was at the age of ten his father tried showing him the ways of lightning manipulation and lightning conjuring, however his son could not wield the deadly energies, his father undeterred forced Xander into unpredictable and wild training to see what it was his son could do. While his father grew tired, and almost passed out from keeping up with his son, Xander barely had broken a sweat after twelve hours of continuous training. His father then realized Xander's magic was almost purely physical, this elated him as he found his son would barely tire after days without rest, and could sustain itself without water for months and food for years. (His father is kind of a twist if you haven't figured it out yet) Xander was sixteen when his second power manifested, he was throwing stones at a lake, when the sounds of the stones splashing in the water was near deafening and the cars whizzing by on the highway....twenty miles away sounded as if they were in his face. His father then was able to give him sound blocking headphones that made it easier for Xander to function. As he grew older he was also brought into the fairbanks legion. Fully knowing they were the reason why his father was such a twist, and realizing that unless he kept his sanity, he would become the same creep his father was. Instead he took to missions with a cold calculating mind, which actually came easy for him due to his conditioning and his father's diabolical training. After his first couple missions people started calling him Cipher as he is a virtual enigma to some due to his sudden personality change during then after a job.


Height/build: Cipher stands at 6'1 and weighs 195 pounds. He has mis matched colored eyes, his right eye is an icy blue, while his left is an off gray. He dyes his hair silver
clothing: Cipher tends to like wearing red, he wears a black leather jacket (waist length) with red outlines, typically a racer's leather jacket. He also wears black steel toed boots, a red button up shirt with a gray sleeveless undershirt, typically the button up shirt is unbuttoned unless either working or around the boss, and he wears black baggy jeans with a red line going up the side of each leg.
For his more aggressive work he wears all black, jacket, gloves, shirt, pants, and boots, either wearing a mask, or just raising the hood on his jacket.

Starting abilities (Two):
ability one: supernatural conditioning, meaning Cipher is above peak human abilities...physically in any sense, this can be activated at any time, and keeps him overall, better than the above average human being in general. He without activating his ability, is still stronger, faster and smarter than a normal person however when the ability is activated,.his magic is making his body even stronger, faster, and his mind even smarter. He can lift heavier objects, run faster than the Olympic record holder, and think in lines with super computers. This aids his marksmanship as there is never any recoil even from even the most unwieldy of firearms. All around Cipher's body, due to his magic has made him the pinnacle assassin/killer

ability two: Enhanced senses, Cipher can hear, taste, smell, see, and touch moreso than others in his species. He could hear a conversation in another room, see as eagles and hawks do, smell the trail of someone, food is even more detailed to him as well as touching/feeling something/someone is heightened. Due to sensory overload, at least in terms of hearing, Cipher always wears soundblocking headphones so he can have normal conversations without sensory overload.

Other:
Cipher's standard equipment: A normal 9mm semi auto pistol, easily concealable, a boot knife, and black fingerless SAP gloves, they add a little extra to his punches, as SAP gloves have at least 8 ounces of steel shot inside the knuckle area of the gloves.
Cipher's advanced loadout: Military grade sniper rifle, mottled gray black clothing, his normal loadout, including an extended barrel, scope, and extended mag in case of needing a ton of bullets. as well as a ninjato, small Japanese sword used for stealth killing, however it has been made with a much stronger steel as to not break in the off chance Cipher would miss a target in close quarters combat. Everything is either concealed in a suitcase, or behind his jacket, the ninjato being easily concealed behind the long mottled black trenchoat he wears for missions.

Both accepted, although I'd prefer if Cipher's speed wouldn't be that of a race car, but instead, something slower at the moment. I want space for improvement, so I'd like to see you enhance that ability over time. ^^

A good character overall although I must say I am a little unsure of the ability balancing between characters at the moment. Try comparing Angel's shadow overdrive for reference. Not only is your ability significantly more powerful on several levels but is also passive.

Glad to hear it. I'm intrigued by how the characters will interact, particularly considering two of them shift personality (one of them into an entirely "different person". I foresee some crazy shiz going down there.

I don't suppose you could help us out a bit and throw out some invites to a couple of friends or on an OOC somewhere? I reckon with a couple more members things should be even more fun.
