Here's the OOC, as promised. I'll edit this post extensively- to get things rolling. kingkonrad’s Characters: Captain Arran “Huscarl” Birgirson, 1st CTRG Team “Husky”, (British) NATO..............Covert Operations Officer Corporal Ian Stanley, Thunder-2, 16th Air Assault Brigade, UK...............IFV Commander Staff Sergeant William Patterson, Vanguard 1-Actual, 101st Airborne Division, US............Light Infantry, Squad Leader
2035. MAPS: Altis Stratis Altis is a 270km2 island, located somewhere in the Aegean Sea, between Turkey and Greece- with the Altatian Government also in possession of a smaller island 60km south, named Stratis- being only 20km2 in size, and mostly used by the AAF as a strategic military position (IRL, they're named Limmos and Agios Efstratis). Following it's independence in 1922 from the Greek state, the country has been gripped mainly by a stable democracy, in which not much even occurred. During even the Economic Crisis of 2007, the economy survived and the state was able to hold it's own. This was all until seven years ago, where a civil war broke out following a total collapse of Altis's main bank and a total loss of government control. Riots turned into revolutionary movement, as many turned to opposition of the lack of control, the widespread dissident for the government. The revolutionaries were confused, unorganized, but armed exceptionally well. The world seems to have progressed from militias being armed with simple AKMs and Zestavas, it seems. Finding TAR-21s and F2000s in the hands of an insurgent within a country like Altis isn't surprising- captured military surplus and equipment allows them to hold this element of power. The Altis Armed Forces found themselves at odds, and soon, shit hit the fan, with the war lasting two years and decimating almost half the island’s population, with almost a quarter leaving to the Greek and Turkish mainlands. The economies of the West are not what they used to be either- and following several fuel crises in the Middle East, a new resurgent force has risen. The Russian Federation threatens the EU with stopping gas and oil pipelines from it's vast supplies from reaching European Cities, whilst in the east, China has become more and more influential in spreading it's economic demands and progression across all of Central and South-Eastern Asia. India has become a minor military superpower in it's own right- with three new aircraft carriers quickly intimidating many powers in the area navally, and as a NATO Partner, being one asset that can be relied on to at least curb China's and Russia's threatening demeanor. But this isn't much in comparison. The CSAT- otherwise known as the Canton Protocol Alliance Treaty, mainly based around the power block of Pakistan, Iran and Turkey as a unified "Islamic Union" of states, have achieved rapid economic and military growth. Following several oil crises in Europe and North America, they have strongly reinforced themselves as a potent force, with huge investment capital able to be thrown into economies, as well as developing new tech and weaponry. Washington is now competing with Tehran for dominance in chipsets and arms manufacture, in competing for dominance over south-eastern Europe, following the last ten years of CSAT influence seeping across Northern Africa and the Middle East. Following the bloody Altis Civil War five years ago (with almost half the population of Altis being killed in the process, following a AAF victory), peacekeepers were sent in from NATO forces, of varying kinds. To work with the local AAF in restoring order to the place- with the UK deploying elements of it's Royal Marines and the 16th Air Assault Brigade whilst the US sent in large elements of the 101st Airborne Division, forming TF Hephaestus in the region. Many SF groups have been also deployed to deal with more precise matters, though that brings us to today. Almost all of the NATO troops have pulled out from Altis, as the country seems to be stable, at least, for the moment. CSAT investment has increased into the AAF, rapidly turning it into an army capable of 2035's standards. The last remaining NATO troops are on Stratis- the island to the south of Altis, and they seem quite mellow. Decommissioning the built-up bases, as well as slowly and surely leaving the islands to the AAF to look after are what most of the troops on the island seem content with. From the Stratis Airbase to Camp Rogain, people are packing their shit and preparing to fly out via the next few C17s that come to pull them out. But warfare is never that easy. One particular group we’ll focus on is the CTRG- the Combat Technology Research Group. Founded in 2032, they head up multiple teams to research (covertly) enemy weapons tech, from new radar installations to advanced reconnaissance. They form the bridge between the regular recon troops and the intelligence groups such as the CIA and MI5, making both shit happen and finding out advanced research. They work as a regular SF team, but of late, are able to work with resistance groups, use guerrilla warfare, as well as be tasked to other units in the area. There are far more advanced operations they are sent on- though they details of these are kept totally secret from any group of individuals outside of the small intelligence community and NATO high command, making them a critical asset in carrying out combat research. CTRG Team “Husky” is headed by Captain Arran Birgirson, a half-Icelandic, half-Shetland Islander under former SFSG and SBS service, of whom is reasonably accustomed to Altis and Stratis. His team is handpicked, but even so, intelligence means that usually, his operators and himself are simply unable to share intelligence with other infantry due to the nature of their operations. Camped up neatly in the very small and cosy Camp Tempest, Stratis, they find themselves on the edge, with uneasy tensions in the region placing Husky, and the remainder of forces on Stratis in grave danger…and Huscarl knows that it will almost be definitely be something to do with their next operation.
Just to remind you, we will go beyond Husky- you'll get the chance to be Guerillas, tank crews, helicopter pilots and regular soldiers, so expect that too. For now, the roles below are what we've got, and if the RP sticks up, I've got a huge plan for what you'll get to be. List of CTRG Team "Husky" -Captain Arran Birgirson, "Huscarl", Team Leader/Grenadier -Warrant Officer Olivia Cheng, "Athena", Designated Marksman -Staff Sergeant Zdislav Cermak, "Mischief", Rifleman (AT), Second in Command -Sergeant Dallas Linn, "Praetorian", Ammo Bearer/Combat Medic -Corporal Brian McAuley, "Irish", Rifleman/Combat Mechanic Equipment: This is a complex, comprehensive and undetailed list. It's very hard to interpret, but what I recommend you do, is click "Name" at the top, and it'll filter through. It comes up in a pretty vague order alphabetically, but it's basically everything you'd want to see in terms of equipment. As a result, you can use real-world equipment today to choose from, such as modern sights and gear, though the use of this is fine too for sights and optics. It can be vague- I can assemble the sort of gear and look you want if you'd like me to, though of course, creative freedom lies with you. Vehicles: A more consise view on vehicles, with everything in there that you might want to know in what we'd be coming into contact with. Weapons:
(Link to A3 Guns) MX: An US manufactured assault rifle chambered in 6.5mm NATO- it’s a commonly used rifle in the NATO inventory, and an up-to-date weapon, with attachments for optics and other accessories. A M320 variant, a MX SW (Support Weapon), as well as a Marksman and Compact variant are produced. Common use in the NATO armory, from the US Army forces on the island to the UKSF. Looks wise, think an ACR meets a practical M4, and you’re close. MSBS A2: A Polish Assault Rifle, with modularity at it’s key. Acquired as the weapon of the CTRG alongside the MX and SCAR, it is highly modifiable for various purposes. A bullpup rifle, carbine, GL and CQC variant, as well as a regular rifle, carbine, GL, CQC and LMG variant (all chambered for 6.5mm) mean that the MSBS A2 now serves as an incredibly reliable and modifiable rifle for their usage. An UW set of specialized mags and chambering can be adapted for the bullpup rifles, further enhancing it’s adaptability in combat. SCAR Series: A weapon typically found from the older armories of the NATO troops on Stratis, this is still a solid weapon for infantrymen. It can be chambered in 5.56 or 7.62 in the L and H variants respectively, with varying barrel lengths, and purposes. From CQC to Sniper variants, take your pick- but both variants are now seen as less adaptable as opposed to the MX’s intermediate round. L85A4: A bullpup assault rifle chambered in 6.5 NATO, and a further adoption of the L85- but chambered differently and using the same stick mags as the MX, as well as sporting a rail system. It’s used by the British Military on Stratis in 2035, and comes in M320, LSW, and CQC variants. Katiba: An assault rifle commonly seen in the hands of CSAT forces- used as a replacement for the KH2002. It’s also chambered in 6.5mm, but using different magazines than the MX/L85A4 series- as well as coming in Carbine, GL and Marksman variants. F2000: An older 5.56mm assault rifle used by AAF and FIA forces- can be configured in EGLM and Carbine variants in addition to it’s full barrel length. It’s gone through a lot of changes- and is still an effective rifle, despite it’s outdated cartridge relative to the NATO inventory. TAR-21 Series: An assault rifle that can be found plentifully on Altis/Stratis- due to it’s use in the civil war. FIA Guerrillas and the AAF use this weapon respectively- with a compact MTAR, a EGLM variant, a normal rifle as well as a STAR variant being still being used to today in the outdated 5.56 ammunition. FURTHER RESEARCH LMGs, SMGs, AT, Snipers and Marksman rifles are listed here. There aren't any more guns- the ones described above I thought I might flesh out. The Mk200, MK18 ABR and M320 LRR are a few more NATO weapons, with the rest being pretty much shared between AAF and CSAT forces. Arran is about 6"3, and has no real noticeable cuts, apart from one just under his chin. He is quite athletic, and packs a very good endurance, as well as having a reasonably good amount of strength. His lung capacity means he can hold his breath for up to about 3 minutes, and it shows when he is on land. He has shaved brown hair, and a tattoo of a trident and Neptune can be seen on the back of his right shoulder, with Arran sometimes growing a very considerable amount of beard- of which on Stratis, he has done, due to the recent lack of action. As with the rest of the team, he is a highly-skilled combat diver, HALO and HAHO trained, as well as being able to work with foreign weapons and deal with unforgiving climates. Most soldiers can just shoot straight and clear areas. Huscarl, and his team respectively, are beyond that. History: Arran was born in 2002 in Lerwick, on the Shetland Isles- up in the windy, cold and miserable part of the UK to a Icelandic Father who worked as a fisherman, and a Scottish Mother who worked locally as a teacher. He took Chemistry, Sports Studies and Geography at A-Level- but he found a fond interest in the military, and more specifically, the Royal Marines. After acquiring a BSc in Geology at the University of Aberdeen, he joined the Royal Marines and went into Officer training in 2020, finding himself quickly succeeding due to his environment rewarding him particularly well, and giving him the chance to fight. Despite the lack of action, his courage and his adaptability found him applying to the SFSG in 2024, the UK's Special Forces Support Group. The equivalent to the Rangers was deployed to quell terrorist unrest in Kuwait in the midst of the oil crisises of the 2020s, and Arran gained his jaws here, leading a platoon into combat and acting efficiently and effectively, overcoming the overwhelming number that the 1st SFSG was tasked to fight. Following this, he was promoted to Captain in 2026, following another tour in Libya, where the ultimately unsuccessful Operation Porcelain, led by US forces, failed to defeat a coup d'etat that brought a CSAT enabled regime into the area. Arran moved onto training in the SBS, or the Special Boat Service- the UK's equivalent to the Navy Seals in 2030. Passing their tests well, Arran became well known in the SF community for his well executed strikes and co-ordinated action in northern Nigeria against a brutal, CSAT-funded militia force, with Arran slowly becoming seen by NATO command as a prime leader for a unit of a different kind. In 2033, Arran was assigned to CTRG Team Bravo, or "Husky", being allowed to hand-pick his own force. Arran did this of course- and now stands as the leader of an elite, intelligence gathering force that sits on the very fringe of combat, the razor's edge between NATO and CSAT forces in the Mediterranean region. Arran knows that the orders and the actions he carries out with his team are covert- not even any other soldiers can be told, the ones he may be forced to mingle with. ------------------------------------------------ (WIP) 101st Airborne Division, "Sabre" Battalion- Stratis Name: William Patterson Callsign: Vanguard-1-Actual Age: 25 Rank: Staff Sergeant Appearance: William is around 6"0, and is clean shaven, being moderately pale and well built. He has brown eyes and a buzzcut, as well as having quite a few bruises from general activity. He hasn't got that much in the way of tattoos or anything that really differentiates him- though he definitely seems like the soldiering type. History: Born in Bangor, Maine in 2010, William grew up with a deep appreciation of the countryside around him, and did well in High School- though he had no plans to join the military. His father, Miles, had served in the US Army as an Officer, but William didn't fancy a University education, hoping to work his way up at some point- hoping to join the Airborne, rather than the regulars. He joined the US Army in 2028, and following two very uneventful years of service, gained his Airborne training and joined the 101st Airborne in 2030, ranking up to Corporal within the year. He was directly involved in the peacekeeping process on Altis, and at many times, was involved in defending the fragile infrastructure projects of Altis in the aftermath of it's bloody war, as well as seeing truly the horrors of both sides- the AAF's restructurement resented by many US Airborne soldiers for it's prior brutality in crushing the FIA resistance relentlessly. He was promoted twice in two tours on Altis and then Stratis respectively- landing for his last tour of duty on Stratis in 2035, packing the island's ageing military infrastructure to lay the way for the AAF to take over the NATO presence. He still resents most of the Greenbacks, or the AAF forces- as most NATO troops now actively do. He's seen a fair share of training and combat- though he is is no elite warrior, he is an Airborne soldier, and knows that with his unit, he can put up a very fierce fight. He is stationed at Camp Tempest with a bunch of spooks and his four-man fireteam, though the rest of his squad is posted up at Camp Rogain. Skills: William is a US Airborne soldier- and as much as he is bored on Stratis, he is very capable indeed. He is a competent fireteam leader, commanding Vanguard-1, and is able to carry out airborne assaults with his team in near-perfect harmony with a helicopter crew, or paradrop whenever required. He is more than happy with adapting from MOUT to open combat, rolling in the back of IFVs to moving with his squad through whatever stands in his way. Though he isn't an SF soldier in any way, or capable of miracles, William's standard of physical competence is good, and can carry out command's orders to the letter. This is since UCP is seen as less useful in the brushes and green/tan landscapes of the islands, and the Airborne finds sharing uniforms with the Brits on the island is cheaper.) ------------------------- 16th Air Assault Brigade, "Bulldog" Company, Stratis Name: Ian Stanley Callsign: Thunder-2 (IFV Callsign) Age: 23 Rank: Corporal Appearance: Ian is your typical Welshman in stature- being 5"10, being shorter yet well built, as you'd expect a tanker to be. His hair is so particularly short, he almost looks bald, as well as having a little stubble and green eyes. In particular, a tattoo of a Wyvern is on his upper back, as well as another smaller one on his left arm, of a lightening bolt- the tattoos easily explainable by Ian for his choice. He still smokes, though due to regulations in NATO of recent times, he is probably one of the last that does- being forced to smoke a distance away from other troops, though Ian doesn't mind a minute's social isolation for a fag. History: Ian was born in Brecon, Wales in 2012, to an English father and a Welsh mother- explaining his relatively English sounding name. He found a great interest for the Armed Forces after leaving his Sixth Form seeing little else to do with his fondness for anything vehicular that had wheels, and in particular, finding the only place where he could use a vehicle to intentionally make holes in walls rather than accidentally. Ending up in the 16th Air Assault Brigade, he started as a FV510 Warrior driver rather than an infantry, prefering this role rather than fighting on the fields due to his previous interest in Mechanical Engineering, and eventually, following a light tour in Altis as a member of the NATO peacekeeping force, he transitioned to the AMV-7-Marshall, as well as ranking up twice by the end of the tour, to the rank of Corporal and replacing a wounded commander of his IFV as the head of a Marshall (the injury being a training-related friendly fire accident). He now is stationed at LZ Connor on the south of Stratis, though he sees little reason for himself to be there, since the place is practically packed up. The Marshall is only one of four NATO armored assets on the island, and of the infrastructure decommissioning, is likely to be the last to be packed into a container after being broken apart and reassembled in mainland Europe. Skills: Ian is an IFV Commander- and knows how to throw his tank around. He is responsible with getting involved in armored assaults in which a lot of damage can be done. Though he is a little rusty. he knows his crew, Lance Corporal Mitchell, and Private Lewis, the Gunner and Drivers respectively of the Marshall, are still fully capable of carrying out their roles and Ian's orders within the IFV. Troop transport, amphibious movement, as well as airborne drops are events that Ian has either taken part in as the commander in a real Anti-Insurgency offensive, or within training exercises in the UK. Weapons: L85A4 Assault Rifle -Iron Sights -6.5mm STANAG Magazine -IR Laser Pointer -Magpul VFG Foregrip -Carbine Barrel -MTP Camouflage Glock G17 (5th Generation) -Holster cable Equipment: -British Army Fatigues (MTP) -Bandolier Vest -Assault Pack (MTP) -Crew Helmet -Green (unspecified) Fingerless Gloves -Combat Goggles (Tanker's Variant) Vehicle: AMV-7-Marshal IFV -40mm Autocannon (HEDP/APDFS) -4 Titan ATGM Missiles -12.7mm Mk30 Coaxial HMG -Active Defense System (Trophy System)- replaces Slatted/Reactive Armor, makes the Marshal air-mobile. -8-Man Carrying Capacity -The AMV-7 Marshall is surprisingly recent as an armored vehicle in the NATO inventory- based off a Finnish/Polish design, as a modular yet tried and tested vehicle. Being wheeled and packing a 40mm Autocannon, not to mention the modification of two 2x Titan ATGM pods on the sides of the turret, and the standard 12.7mm HMG allowing it to fully engage with enemy contacts of both a moderately armored and infantry type gives it a wide spectrum. IRNV, NV and FLIR optics come included on the gunner's turret and the commander's periscope, for observation and target identification- and though it is still a Lightly Armored Vehicle, rather than a very heavily tracked IFV (such as a BTR-K Kamysh), it's mobility means that is able to haul ass and bring a lot of firepower to the party. Though Ian would prefer a new FV570, a British and Altisian issued-vehicle, the Marshall's speed and versatility, as well as the fact that this is one of the last remaining armor assets on Stratis an, means that he hasn't got much choice.
