Scenario:

Two players in an RP, they are controlling one character each.
Player A discovers that they need to go to a location that is a set distance away.
Player B has to write the a post that moves both Player A and Player B to the new location.

The question is this...

Taking into account the rules and guidelines on powerplay, metagaming, Godmodding and Autoing [Link to understanding the Terms], how would a player successfully write this scenario out? It's always been a little bit of a concern as I don't want to step on anyone's toes but occasionally these kind of situations come up and I know I have difficulty resolving them correctly.

The easiest answer will be to Collab, but in this situation let's assume that it's not an option.

I really think it depends on the rpers. While a collab is the easiest option if you are with an rper you trust, there are times when assumed or permitted bunnying is fine.

There are several times I have had this scenario in the past. Much of the time it is collab or two part posting series. (Where one person types up their entire post, then pm the other the post - they add in their characters actions and pm back; done)

Yet there are those select few on the forum I trust without worry to bunny my characters to make things run smoother.

Usually a quick pm even if you aren't close to the Rper can work it out quickly.

That's pretty much it, yes. Everyone has different rules on this topic; some will not allow you to even touch their character, while others can go as far as to let them speak and act the way it most fits the situation. Overall though, I'd say most people are fine with just saying that their character is tagging along yours, as long as you don't have too much dialogue or big events happen.

But yeah, you can find out your partner's exact personal preference with a simple question, so that's what you should do.

Well, since a collab isn't an option, I'd go with a "less is more" approach. If it is perfectly obvious that character A intends to go to the location, I think it is safe to assume that they will accompany character B to that destination. However, that is all that should be assumed. No dialogue, no details of the trip. Just have a brief time skip where they arrive at the location, and commence roleplaying as normal.

I would go with the above proposed course - though honestly what you describe embodies what a collab is supposed to do.

In my situation its a 1x1 with someone on the other side of the world so our time zone and the structure of the role play doesn't lean towards a collab.

Some of the suggestions above are quite good and my partner is fine with me moving the character about so it should work out well. I was curious about if that wasn't the case.

It kinda depends on how harshly the players feel about others moving their characters.

a simple "they traveled through the murky wood together, neither saying much of anything due to the eerie stillness surrounding them." will cover it fairly well. Or you could do the same in several sentences.

If the players know each other well and understand the characters, then "remote control" on some level is also possible, though it might be wise to verify any points you have doubts about the correctness of in actions/words.
