Madison was exhausted. The lack of having an advantage in the fight didn't mean that she was weak, but rather, that she had focused too much on exerting as much power as possible in a short amount of time. The smart thing to do would have been to conserve her strength in order to make it last, but she had foolishly denied herself that possibility. The elemental took advantage of her mistake when it swung down its arm, executing a vertical hit that was nearly flawless. For the poor girl, the unpredictable retaliation of her opponent left her with little time to react. She attempted to defend herself, but had hesitated just long enough for the elemental to make contact. The impact nearly crushed Madison, but it was her shoulder that had taken the bulk of the hit. She lay on the ground stunned, the pain taking a second to register before she let out a painful cry. But she knew she couldn't play the victim card for too long. Madison regained control of herself in order to wave the white flag. A shameful move, but she had no choice. "I'm done, I need out!" She couldn't exactly wave her arms to get the Headmaster's attention, but Madison was well aware of the fact that he was watching her and the rest of the students as well.
