Character Name: Joseph Runner, Callsign “Bulldog” Character Role: Spartan Leader Character Age: 36 Character Gender: Male Character Appearance: Joseph, outside of his armor, stands at an impressive 6 feet tall even. He’s of a caucasian complexion with sapphire blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. When in armor, he prefers the Pathfinder, painted red and dark green with the crossswords on a fireball emblem painted white and maroon for the swords and yellow for the flame. Character Personality: Joseph has seen combat across many planets against the Covenant and lost plenty of brothers and sisters in arms. As a result, he’s surly, grumpy, and maybe a little mean, but does everything in his power to keep his unit alive. He likes to bond with his units over a card game where he actually becomes quite jovial. That said, you won’t see that on the battlefield, where when he issues an order, he expects it to be followed. Character Gear: Hardlight Shield module, Battle Rifle, SMG with a swap out from Battle Rifle to Sniper Rifle during longer range engagements. Character skills: Wilderness Survival, hand-to-hand training, tactician, urban battlefield experience, infiltration of enemy lines Character Backstory: Joseph Runner is what’s considered a career military man, having seen tours of duty all across the stars since Earth went to war with the Covenant in the Human-Covenant War. He enlisted a little later in life than most people, joining the Corps at the age of 21 instead of 18. The intermittent time was spent figuring out his life, as he finished high school he was mixed in with a rather unscrupulous crowd and dealing various drugs. When this ended with most everyone he knew dead in a deal gone wrong a few months before he enlisted, he began to rethink his life. Enlistment, as it turned out, was better for him by a long run. Upon completion of the standard basic training course, he was slotted for training with the ODST and upon completion was given the rank of Sergeant and put in charge of a squad. On their first drop, one of the squad members was shot down mid drop and the other two were killed in the heavy fighting after words. Runner had his share of wounds from the battle, but he lived. This seemed to become a trend for him during the start of his service in the war, with each squad ending up dead, MIA, or medically discharged. Eventually he began to be called a cursed NCO, the kind that got you killed or wounded just by being too close. He’d never show it, but the whisperings about his reputation bothered him. When he got his new squad, all combat veterans whose units had suffered fates similar to those of his own, he made a decision. In the following battle, the Battle of New Mambasa, he got them all together once they hit the ground and they stayed together through the operation. This resulted in no casualties and minimal injuries. This was the squad he was with until the end of the Human-Covenant War, where they were rewarded with the medals they had earned and the unit was split for various clean up operations. It was during this time he was approached with the offer to become a Spartan-IV. Accepting it, he was placed as the team leader of Fireteam Ra upon completion of all the Spartan-IV training and augmentation adjustment.
