Alright finally done with my CS. Now to read 15 undoubtedly long but amazing IC posts while waiting for my new character's acceptance or rejection.
Side Character
Name: Shakti Subramaniam
Age: 25
Appearance:
Height: 6'
Weight: 140lbs
Likes: Spicy foods, sweet foods, running full tilt, climbing, children, people, cultures, philosophy.
Dislikes: Being slowed down, irresponsible parents, strictness,
Party Trick: Shakti has the uncanny ability to get to places that would normally be off limits: someone's balcony, restricted access rooftops, on someone's car, sewer, etc. HARDCORE PARKOUR BABY!!!
Profession: Shakti has officially graduated with a Bachelor's in Philosophy, but thanks to a technical glitch, she is still allowed to stay at Shine Academy's graduate student housing and is roommates with Otonashi Shizuka. She runs many odd jobs on the side, as a delivery woman, courier, Süper driver, if it involves getting from point A to point B, she's probably done it.
Bio/Personality: Shakti is energetic to the point of restlessness, the very image of unbridled freedom. She is friendly, a lover of people and would be a bit of an experience junkie if it weren't for the lack of disposable income. She is extremely tolerant, even towards those with intolerant views. Her one weakness is impatience. Her energy level directly correlates with how fast she is moving and she becomes lethargic and bored if forced to slow down. Why do you think it took her so long to get her Bachelor's?
According to the orphanage, Shakti was found wandering the alleys of Shine City when she was three, crying and holding a worn out stuffed animal. They didn't know whether she was abandoned or if her parents had died, but they took her in and posted a missing child notice. No one ever came. As such, Shakti was essentially raised by the orphanage until adulthood. She had a few flings with foster families: doe-eyed optimists who misplaced altruism with responsibility, who promptly returned her when she presented herself as 'too wild' or unwilling to conform to their expectations of a child. As 'punishment' for her unruliness and unadoptability, Shakti worked at the orphanage since she quickly became one of the oldest kids. But working at the orphanage was really all she ever really wanted to do. And due to the fact that boys are less adoptable than girls, Shakti became a bit of a tomboy herself, being surrounded by them. The orphanage was trying to decide what to do with Shakti. They had enrolled her in public school (though she was held back a few times) but after graduating high school they were at a loss. Fortunately, a wealthy donor had created a fund for sending orphans with promise to college. Forced to apply, Shakti, against all odds (ok, so the scholarship was obscure and nobody else applied) got enough to make her way through Shine Academy. Well not entierely, the scholarship only covered four years. Shakti took a little longer than that but made it through with money from her various odd-jobs. Now that she's graduated, she still lives in the dorms. The orphanage expects her to become a self-sufficient adult. Where does her life take her from here? Can anything hold her down? Will she able to stand still long enough to find 'the one'?

Side Character
Name (Surname, Personal Name): Otonashi Shizuka
Age: 22
Appearance:
Height: 166 cm (5'5")
Weight: 45 kg (100 lbs)
Likes: Animals especially cats, nature, cooking, intellectuals, philosophy, selflessness, family, order, humility, tradition. Shizuka has become sort of an 'otaku' in her own right as she recently started playing the collectible card game, "Wizardry: The Collective", and competes in tournaments at the Lancom Arcade. Her favorite location is the Aquarium.
Dislikes: Cruelty, arrogance, noise, disorder, conflict, crowds, shallow attraction, lack of commitment, insincerity, dishonesty
Party Trick: Unexpectedly good pencil sketch portraits due to her observant nature and dexterity.
Profession: Shizuka is a graduate student at Shine City Academy, majoring in veterinary science. She used to be a teaching assistant to Dr. Shou Matsuoka's biology class but she has fulfilled her TA requirements and no longer TA's, spending more time on her research project. She used to work part-time as a waitress at the Shining Kettle, a cafe on Shine Junction, but she has quit that as well since it reminds her of Alban. Now she works part-time as a clerk at a bookstore on Shine Junction called, The Bookmark.
Bio/Personality: Shizuka is quiet and demure, but is extremely supportive and committed to friends and especially to family. To people she doesn't know, she can act formal and respectful, overcoming her inherent shyness. She is capable and skilled and takes care of herself, but her modesty is so deeply ingrained that she tends to sell herself short, downplay her contributions, and take herself for granted. However, she is not depressed, she simply thinks this way to motivate herself to always do more. She feels others are far more deserving of attention and may become awkward and uncomfortable if people become attracted to her. Shizuka lived with her parents and sister in another city, but when she got into Shine City Academy's graduate program, she moved here and is now living in the dorms. When she was younger, several boys had approached her with romantic interests and she had turned them down for two main reasons: she doesn't think they would be interested in her if they spent time with her because she considers herself uninteresting and average at best, and she could sort of tell that they were just physically attracted to her, in love with the idealized 'concept' of who they wanted her to be instead if who she really was. So she has never been in a relationship and is not looking for one, but a deep emotional connection based off of mutual understanding and real appreciation may bring her out.
A summary of past events.
Shizuka's life changed one day when she heard her name announced on the radio by the young and independent radio host, Nick Weston. He was going through his list of young and attractive people. Out of a sense of modesty, she sought to confront him to let him know that he had made a mistake. Upon meeting him, he expressed a desire to be friends with her. After several friendly outings, it soon became apparent that he had become infatuated with her. Unused to the attention and sensing incompatibility, Shizuka awkwardly turned him down, a decision she feels wasn't wrong, but feels guilty for regardless.
It was revealed in passing when she visits her family for Christmas, that she had a crush on a boy in high school, but her best friend and cousin had a crush on the same guy and unknowingly came to Shizuka for help and advice. During the visit, Shizuka feels a bit of pride and emptiness to see her cousin happily married to that man and with their first child who was recently born. While honored to hold the baby, it brought tears to Shizuka's eyes. The nostalgia and regret made her cut the visit short.
One day while working, a single-father named Alban Voclain and his daughter, Stella, came into the Shining Kettle, as did a man named Zac Yoxall. Zac was an up-and-coming magician and entertained Stella, prompting the owner and barista of the Shining Kettle to hire him on the spot, which would make Zac and Shizuka coworkers until Shizuka eventually quits. During her childish shenanigans, Stella hits her head on the underside of a table, causing her to cry. Shizuka's motherly response brings her closer to Alban. Having been friend's for a short while, Alban eventually decides to invite Shizuka to the New Year's Eve masquerade ball. Unfortunately, Alban saw someone he mistook for his ex-wife, the woman who abandoned him and their daughter, and got himself incredibly inebriated in rage. To make the doppelganger jealous, he dances with Maribelle, Stella's violin teacher. Alban and Mari then make off into the night for some drunken sex, leaving Shizuka alone at the ball. There she meets Kazuma Watanabe, a mute who invites her to another party. With her ride home gone, Shizuka accepts, only to arrive at the mansion of young pop-idol Amity Bellerose. There she meets Amity and Amity's childhood friend, Kyle Parker, who are preparing for a night of drunken madness. Shizuka participates, if only to drown out the encroaching sense of abandonment.
And that's where our story ended. Six months have passed since then, and Shizuka has burned a few bridges and entrenched herself deeper in 'modesty', which is a euphemism she uses for her lack of self-worth. While she enjoyed Kazuma, Amity, and Kyle's company, she has maintained a professional distance with them as she doesn't want to be reminded of that night, the same night that a horrible shooting occurred at that same ball that she had left. She has quit the Shining Kettle where she first met Alban and Stella and has begun working at The Bookmark in a position that draws considerably less attention. She has also stopped TAing for Dr. Matsuoka due to her having fulfilled her requirements.
