With this, Echo can convince Tahlia to put the gun down and spare him for the some of the reasons you just stated above. I'm sure if Tahlia does decide to kill Rend, Echo will strongly disagree, perhaps sparking even more conflict. I like the fact that this is a big decision and can change the direction of the story. Tahlia shoots Rend and the rest might look at her in a different, she chooses to keep him alive might help or hurt them later in the future.
