So she said, "If you need help with anything outside the high school. Sure, I'm in. I got a little bored as it is and I wanted to go out myself. Do a little scouting and such. Oh and the pleasure is all mine Mr. Hill." "Good. Now I can check out a few of the larger stores." Alex started walking down the hallway and continued speaking, "I mostly planned on going to a few stores throughout the town. Checking to see if there are any hidden survivors there. Maybe try and recruit them. Mainly I'm trying to find something for someone. If I find what I'm looking for I'll tell you why. It's not really my place to say right now." "OK, good. I couldn't check them myself. It's hard to check a place while having to watch your back because of survivors. Just so you know, if we go-I'll go full Walker mode, OK? We go with the herd. We move like them. It's easier to not get noticed that way." She took a breath and said, "That works for you?" "That's fine by me. As I am right now I can't really do what I normally do. Let's get moving." Alex walks out of the building and quickly looks around making sure no one notices the two leaving. Once he walks out of the gate he looks around for the closest walker. Only a few were around which was surprising seeing as how loud the school area had been recently. He quickly points out two standing off on their own to Alexis. "Nice. Stay here. No need to put yourself in danger with those wounds for now." Alexis moved slowly towards the Walkers. Throwing a small rock in the other direction caused the Walkers to turn away and try to determine what was making the sound. That was her cue. She moved as fast as she could without making noise and planted a knife inside the brain of a Walker and quickly threw another one in the head of the other. She was showing off, true, but it was fun. At least for her. She took her knives back and made a hole into one of the Walker's stomach. "Come on. Take the other one. Make sure you rub it everywhere. We don't want the dead to smell us. It's not-good at first if you didn't do it 'til now. So, try not to gag or vomit. Please." With that said she went to making a "bath" with Walker blood and guts. Alex watched as the girl dispatched the two undead. Impressive fighting skills. Once she finished Alex walked over to the carcass he was to empty out onto himself. He gutted the lifeless creature while holding his breath so as to not make it too bad at first. He slowly began breathing in the stench that emanated from the form before him. He had smelled dead bodies before, but this seemed far worse in comparison. It may have something to due with the rotting of the flesh inside coming in contact with fresher meat. It was horrifyingly putrid. Alex still pushed through the stench and covered his body as best he could. Due to the limited movement of his left arm though he wasn't able to get his back very well. Once he did all he could he stood and asked Alexis, "You ready to get moving?" Alexis finished her "bath" faster than Alex because of all the times she had done it and the smell coming from the body didn't bother her that much. She got used to it as much as it is possible to get used to that kind of smell. She quickly inspected Alex to make sure he didn't miss any spots and make himself a target for the Walkers. She noticed a small part of his back was not covered in blood or such. She put her hand into the belly of a Walker and asked Alex to turn around. "I am sorry to say this, but you still have to learn how to make yourself seem like a Walker. Here, let me help you. You have some spots that are not covered in blood." She pulled something from the Walker's belly and started to smear Alex on the back with it. It was not-pleasant. Once she was done she said, "Done. Let's get going now, but remember when we approach the Walkers, move slowly and don't talk." Alex did as Alexis asked and once she finished he responded to her by saying, "Alright then. Let's move." It took quite awhile to arrive at the shopping district. Alex scanned the general area and didn't see any signs of human activity. The whole area had a large number of the dead but not enough to be classified as a horde. Alex knew that the possibilities of something like that were high, but thankfully they were in a smaller town so mass buildup of walkers were not as likely. Alex looked around at the various stores nearby and slowly pointed towards the Wal-Mart indicating that it would be their first stop. Alexis was scanning the place for any kind of danger. Looking for sharpshooters, ambushes, and things like that. Soldier instincts die hard it seems. Especially in this world. Alexis whispers, "We should take them out. One by one. It will mean we can bring more people next time. Even though most of these supermarkets are picked clean. Just a quick question. How did you get those?" *She points at his injuries*, "No bite, I hope." Alex got a little agitated by the girls question. He was trying to focus on the task he had but he still responded, "Nope, no bite. Robert, Camy, and I got grabbed by another group and they 'questioned' us. They haven't made an appearance since everyone else got us back. It was about the same time you joined the school that everything with that happened." Alex continued towards the store taking out a few of the walkers as he passed them. He then asked a question of his own, "How did you figure out about using the guts to hide?" Alexis didn't tell anyone about that. Mostly because nobody asked her. "Hmm-they 'questioned' you? Why hasn't the group hunted them down yet? And about your question. I didn't. A survivor told me how to do it. I thought he was crazy at first, but when I got myself trapped, like a fool, inside a small apartment with ten walkers outside the door and no way to jump without breaking a leg, I tried to use his trick. I never thought it would work. When the door gave in, the Walkers just moved pass me. I almost laughed when I saw that they didn't know I was there. Ever since, I used that trick to move around. There is safety in numbers and sometimes the dead make the best defense there is." "Not sure why they haven't hunted them down. Personally I don't care right now. They will get what's coming to them that is a definite. Right now though it seems we have to focus on past members of the school." A fairly vague answer, but that was how Alex was at times. Entering the store Alex kept on high alert while heading to the area where babies and toddler stuff would be kept. If he wanted to hide his intent for grabbing a present for Erin he felt hiding it among stuff for the coming babies would work well. "Well, we should. They can come back, and they can come in bigger numbers. Who says they haven't come already and they aren't attacking the school as we talk?" Alexis didn't like this at all. Nobody told her about the attacks. Nobody told her about the danger. "Hmm. Baby stuff? That's why we are here? And here I thought that we came here to take some booze and stuff." Alexis kept very close to Alex. Watching his every move. She was not sure those injuries were not infected. He could've been turning soon, and she didn't know it. She had to be ready. She never saw someone turn in front of her so she didn't know what to expect. So, she was right behind him all the time, with a hand on her knife. Alex grabbed a few of the things that he knew were essential. He never had much experience when it came to babies and toddlers so he just grabbed diapers and clothes mostly. He didn't like how Alexis was always behind him though. He did not like it one bit. He didn't say anything at first, but it seemed that she wouldn't go anywhere other than behind him. At some point he turned to her and said, "Alright, what's your deal. I told you I wasn't bit. Matt and Haru already cleaned my wounds. I'm not gonna turn. Even if I did start to turn you would know. Guessing you haven't seen someone turn. The person actually dies. Their body goes cold and they don't have a pulse. From there it's pretty random how long it takes for them to turn. Be it a few minutes or a few hours. Either way I will most likely collapse or something before I would turn. So I'd appreciate it if you helped me gather things rather then be waiting to stab me." Alexis realized how that looked. Fuck. Army training bullshit. Always suspicious. "Sorry, I mean it. Yes, that's true. Never saw someone turn. I've been in a hospital when this happened, but I ran as fast as I could when the army started shooting up the place. I got grazed by a bullet when I tried to tell them that I'm a soldier too. I'm sorry for not trusting you, but you probably would do the same thing if you were me and had my information. Right?" She soon started to gather whatever things she could. "So-what did you do before this shit happened? You don't look like a soldier." "I was just a college student who played games and liked to act. If what your getting at is why I do things the way I do I guess it's cause I think things differently than other people would. I was actually told one time by someone that they considered me a robot because of how calculating I was. I just like to stay away from thinking emotionally. Thinking logically can get you much farther in both the previous life and the new one we've found ourselves in. What about you. If you had to tell the soldiers you were one of them you must not have been in uniform. What were you up to at the time?" "College student. Nice. I wanted to go to college but I decided it's better to follow my parent's footsteps. Both my parents are-were military. Dad was Corporal and mom a decorated soldier herself. It was only normal for me to enroll as soon as I finished high school. Those were the scariest days of my life. Most of the people at the base knew my parents and I HAD to be the best soldier in the goddamned military because of that. Now that I think of it. It's probably what kept me alive 'til now. No, I was not in uniform. I'm not even from here. I'm Romanian. I was visiting a soldier friend that I met in Iraq. She told me to visit this place. A few days later, she gets bit by what we thought was a mad man. I took her to the hospital and saw there were others in the same state. The military soon showed up when the screaming started and they opened fire just like that. Killing Walkers and uninfected humans alike. I had to-abandon her and at first it haunted me. Now I know better. She was dead anyway. She just didn't know it yet. A robot? That would be great, you know? To have something that kills Walkers for you?" At her last words she started to laugh. "Make sure not to laugh to loud. Walkers are still all over the place in here. Sorry about your friend. Didn't expect to hear that about our military though. Wonder what it was that made the higher ups in the military think that that was a good idea. Anyway, I really have no idea what some of the essentials we need are. All I know to get is diapers and clothes. I never had to deal with kids that small before. Have you got any idea what else we should get?" Obvious discomfort was on Alex's face. He wanted to avoid asking for help at all cost, but in a matter of a few hours he'd already had to be helped by this one woman so many times. He felt like an idiot and just wanted to hurry up and be done with this all ready. "Alex. We are dressed in guts and have more blood than we have in our bodies on us. Do you really think that even if Walkers come here, they will try to eat us? Now, I think we should find some baby food. Babies don't eat what we eat, you know? Babies need towels too. I don't know anything else. Never thought I would live to have babies. Planed on staying in the military 'til I died and if there was a Heaven somewhere out there and they needed a soldier, I would be one there too." After a little bit longer of scavenging and chatting the two realized they couldn't really carry much more. "Hey, I think we've got about enough that we can carry for now. I'm gonna grab one more thing from the toy section and then we can leave." Alex headed towards the area where stuffed animals and the such would be. He looked around trying to see if any were left over. If he had come here to get a present for Erin and came back empty handed he'd be pissed at himself. After a little digging through the rubble he finally felt something soft and plushy. It was a tiny stuffed bear. It was actually kinda cute and reminded Alex of a stuffed bear he had when he was little. He put the small thing inside his backpack and turned to Alexis saying, "Welp, I guess it's time to go. We should get more people to come out here next time. More baby stuff here than I expected, but it makes sense." "Of course. Let's go home, I'm itching for a fight tho'. Let's kill some Walkers on the way home. Oh, and by the way, what was that thing you got from the toy section? I don't think that's for you tho', right?" "It's just for someone back at the school. Anyway it's killing time." The two lone wolves slowly began killing walkers around the Wal-Mart and on the way to the school. From having to go slow and dealing with the walkers it took a few hours to get back to the school. When the two got there it was chaos outside the fence. A burning bus with Walkers surrounding it, and loads more vehicles filled the school grounds. Alex raised his rifle to see if he could tell what was going on. He noticed familiar and unfamiliar faces alike. Alex wasn't sure what had happened but there were to many Walkers outside for him to worry about that now. He looked to Alexis and signaled to her that they should get moving. In order to let the people standing guard they were human Alex held his rifle pointing it up into the air as they shambled towards the school.
