Though my char is the chief of engineering, he's also still E7 in the army, which means he [url=http://www.goarmy.com/benefits/money/basic-pay-active-duty-soldiers.m.html]which would make ~40,000 a year[/url] (modern money), while the average statistician (something I could do after college, if I got my masters in statistics) [url=http://www.bls.gov/ooh/math/statisticians.htm]makes about twice that[/url]. With the same level education as the statistician (4 years undergrad, 2 year masters), a high-school teacher (in the state I live in) would make about the [url=http://www.nea.org/home/2012-2013-average-starting-teacher-salary.html]3/4ths that as the E7[/url] army guy.

Status and Rank are fucked up constructs in our society. Don't think about them or you'll hurt yourself.
