Alister grabbed his book and swiftly put it away as paulina came over. He fumbled around with it trying not to let her see anything. Alister looked up and muttered "oh hey" was all he could get out as his eyes turned red. This color was one noome had seen before and had a much different effect than any thing else he had done. Even he himself knew nothing of it.

Alister grabbed the sides of his head in pain as suddenly he could hear and know everything all at once. He cringed for a moment than suddenly he just stopped and started breathing softly. As the moment passed he looked up and his eyes were now close to normal colored but still slightly different. His pupils seemed to be cat shaped.

With a soft smooth voice he looked at paulina and said "so what brings you over to this table temptress" as he spoke the words slid off his tounge like silk. "Haven't seen you all day" Alister let out a small chuckle and smiled pushing up his glasses and his eyes returned completely to normal. He blinked a few times and looked around at the others. "OK that hurt a little" he said with a chuckle. Playing off the changes as a joke as to not reveal he had worse powers he did not yet know how to control

Ashleigh gave a soft sigh, clutching her book tightly to her, but nodded to Paulina. she watched her friend walk off, standing where she had left her. She glanced about wearily. She knew she could go, but what was the point? She'd still be able to sense the large gathering of emotions nearby. She could take the easy way out. Grumbling under her breath, she sat down by Vivi, and Jason. Until Vivi leaped up. Ashleigh flinched, automatically shifting away from the flamboyance that was Vivi.

She gave another sigh, setting her book on the table and closed her eyes, once more hiding her face with her hair. She dropped her head into her hands, there was just too much going on. She drew in a deep breath, letting it out slowly.

Maybe she should have taken a pill.

Maybe she could just sneak off and take one.

That would leave her with two left. Was this really a situation she wanted to waste a pill on? They had become surprisingly hard to come by. She thought someone must be blocking her advances at getting them. Sighing again, she looked up. @Hitman5455@Stern Algorithm

Korie Weiss

Within just a few minutes of picking up her fork, Korie was introduced to yet another new face. One who pegged her as Liam’s girlfriend.

Korie’s eyes widened in surprise, momentarily stunned. Is that how easily people hooked up around here? By talking and eating lunch together?

Looking over at Liam, Korie’s shock melted into amusement. The boy’s ears had flushed a cherry red—a telling sign that such accusations did not often fly his way. Korie sat back and let Liam try and explain the situation, stifling a laugh. So cute! she thought, unable to help a grin.

”And, unfortunately, we’re not dating,” Korie added with a grin, looking at the newest member of the table. ”Why? Worried that you won’t have a chance?”

A shuffle came from Alister’s side of the table as the black notebook disappeared from the table. Clearly Alister didn’t want the girl to know about the “observations” he’d been making, but before Korie could produce a coherent thought Alister’s eyes flashed and he doubled over with pain, gripping his head as if in the throes of a massive headache.

”Alister?” Korie asked in concern, hesitantly reaching out a hand. However, Alister recovered quickly, straightening up with a curious look over his face. His eyes felt different, but their color was normal. His pupils, however, had dilated to a… A sliver? Korie thought in confusion, eyebrows scrunching as she stared at the bespectacled boy.

Just as quickly, the odd-shaped pupils were gone, replaced by circular human ones. Korie was silent as Alister spoke, at a loss for what to say. She was by no means close to Alister, so it wouldn’t do for her to inquire about the sudden change. Rather, Korie’s eyes darted to the other two occupants of the table as Korie waited for someone to speak.

Liam Pyne

It took Liam a full moment of mortification after Korie commented about it being Unfortunate that they were not dating. Since when had he become this interesting not only that but it was unfair for his tired brain and socially awkward personality to be double teamed by two girls who were way too aware of the fact that they were pretty. Of Course Korie couldn’t leave it at that; she had to suggest there would be competition for him. There was no way the two of them could be serious. Could they? Secretly he hoped they were serious since Arty had ruined his last date. And by ruined he meant Epically ruined. In fact it had been so bad Liam had dodged more than a few passes people had offhandedly made last semester largely from fear. But these two at least had an idea of what happened around him. Sort of.

Focus, dumbass there is such a thing as teasing

It made him bright red and he made it a point of looking right down at his plate. It was really too much. Once upon a time he could have handled the situation smoothly but now he was so out of practice in the social forum that all he could do was studiously avoid eye contact and focus on his food. Of course Korie and Paulina had to be pretty. Of course it was in the middle of people and of course he’d had to exorcise himself twice tonight.

Am I really attractive enough to warrant this or is it something else? He looked up at Korie tentatively. She was grinning, that was a good sign.

At the sound of Alister’s fit Liam immediately looked up and looked at him. Did he really just call Paulina a temptress? Meeting Korie’s look he flashed her a frown. “Yo, Alister are you okay buddy? Paulina is just playing.” Maybe Studying Alister Liam kept his eyes from focusing on Alister’s eyes as he looked at his posture. “Do I need to go get someone?”

Paulina Benson

Paulina burst out laughing at the girl's response. "And so quick with the comeback! I like you." She let her legs swing back and forth as she gave the girl an approving smile. "I was just surprised to see Liam sitting peacefully with one of the fairer sex. His friends are a little," her head tilted, as though she was trying to think of the proper word, "shall we say, protective." Paulina winked at the flustered boy.

It was an understatement, to say the least. Her first few attempts to interact with the medium had resulted in a lot of laundry trips and a broken arm, but as time had passed the spirit world had seemed to have accepted a truce with the dark-haired enchantress.

"So, while he's a very nice boy, Liam and I never really "hit it off", as my mother would say." Paulina shrugged and smiled, though her eyes remained fixed on Korie with undisguised interest. "But, if you're both single, who knows what could happen to the bold? I've seen stranger things."

Her jovial mood, however, evaporated as Alister doubled over, and the bespectacled boy instantly became the center of her attention. She didn't miss the change of color in his eyes, or the sudden change in his temperament. Something was definitely amiss with him, but it seemed to have passed. "Ali's fine. I've seen this happen occasionally, whenever he gets cocky." Paulina waggled her finger at Alister, frowning in mock disapproval. "Naughty boy." The look in her eyes, however, conveyed that the two of them would definitely be having words about it later.

She turned her attention back to the new girl. "So! Korie, right? I'm Paulina. What fantastic and mysterious things brought you to our fine academy?"

Korie Weiss

”The fantastic and amazing government,” Korie said, her smile a little forced this time around. ”They probably figured the Academy needed a little of special ‘ol me.”

While not far from the truth, Korie’s answer said nothing about the ordeals she’d faced as the government tried to trap the wily shapeshifter. Unorthodox means were resorted to multiple times in order to lure her out, and Korie didn’t want to dwell on thigs she couldn’t change.

”What about you all then?” Korie asked, opening the table to a broader discussion. ”How long have you been here, and how is life here?” Korie grinned. ”Any tips and tricks for the new person on the block?”

"I think I wanna take you up on your offer..." he said with a dark tone. He drew his fist back and punched at her chest level. However just before his fist connected he stopped it instantly. And opened his hand for a handshake, laughing.

"I'm just fuckin with ya." He said jokingly. "Nice to meet you Vedika, I'm Jason."

Vedika stared with unflinching eyes as Jason's fist came towards her, ready for the hit. It was a few seconds after the non-impact that she blinked in mild confusion and looked down at his outstretched palm. Ah, this is that thing boys do Vedika thought to herself. She reciprocated incorrectly by giving Jason a light finger high-five, the kind that usually leads to a fist-bump followed by any manner of weird secret handshake-type rituals, though Vedika left it at just the fingers. Sitting back down, and saying bye to Paulina who had just left to see actually socialize at the social, Vedika said, "Jason, is it? Knowing the kinds of people you're likely to find in this school, you must be pretty brave to run to someone's aid like that. What is it you can do that gives you that kind of confidence?" It was maybe a bit out of character for Vedika to be asking this, but perhaps some of Paulina's curiosity and desire to learn and experiment on all the students' powers was rubbing off on Vedika.

Ashleigh gave a soft sigh, clutching her book tightly to her, but nodded to Paulina. she watched her friend walk off, standing where she had left her. She glanced about wearily. Vedika could notice that Ashleigh was tired. Seeing her lift her face, Vedika gave her a reassuring smile. Paulina had told Vedika enough times in the past how her energy could be tiring to others around her, especially Ash. Vedika hoped that by sitting back down and just having a simple conversation with Jason would be enough to slow the pace down to a bearable speed for Ashleigh.

What kind of ability gives me confidence? I never thought of it like that. It wouldn't matter if I had no power, I still would have done something.

"I'm not that special" he replied. " I would have helped her out regardless of any kind of ability." Jason wondered if he would have become the same person he is without his powers. He had trained his body to peak performance, so he wouldn't have to rely on them. However his athletic ability was nothing supernatural. His cognitive acceleration on the other hand...

"You really wanna know what I can do?" He asked. "I'll show you. Try to punch me, knock my teeth out, just go for it." He said with a grin. He prepared to hyper focus, and waited in anticipation.

Alister smiled in reassurance. "I'm fine" he said with a chuckle."absolutely no reason to get anyone". In reality Alister was very scared and had no clue what just happened, but he wasn't really willing to admit that. Alister looked over at Paulina and smiled "You know I was joking right?" He asked with a smile.

Alister knew everything he had said and done was kind of off, but he wanted to play it off as a joke. Alister smiled at Paulina and let out a small laugh. "Seriously, why would that have been real" he said in false confidence. alister knew Paulina knew him way to well to believe that. And he had a very strong feeling she was going to assess that later on in the night as usual.

Alister than turned to Kurie and gave a small smirk in response to her question about how long the three of them have been there. He laughed a little and scratched his head. "To be honest, "he started to say laughing a little more. "The government came for me a long long time ago." Alister wasn't afraid to admit what happened but that's because they were nice to him. He was pretty sure it was because he was a kid at the time, but hey, who knows. "I have actually been here since I was ten" he said with a smile. "So this place is all I know". Alister thought to himself for a moment and than smiled up at everyone. I hope that works for them he thought to himself as he waited for each or their responses. @Dusksong@Thundercrash@Themerlinhawk

Paulina dipped her head in acknowledgement. She could deal with Alister's "thing" later. "They found me when I was 14, so Ali's been here a bit longer than I have. Turns out, making yourself float up to the ceiling isn't considered "normal". Who knew." She chuckled to herself, still clearly able to remember her parents staring up at her slack-jawed. It was funny how one's perspective affected their priority; they'd been worried about how she got up, she'd been thinking about how she was going to get back down. "Honestly, once you get used to all the other weird stuff, it's not much different than any other school. Be nice, don't use your powers to mess with people, and it's just uni around here. Better, even, since we don't pay for tuition."

Almost instantly, Vedika's body tensed up as she pulled her shoulder back, just about to throw a full-body, no-holds-barred punch when she paused, let the tension out of her body, and remained seated. She remembered that she wanted to keep things calm for Ashleigh's sake, and punching Jason, even if he had a defense for it, was not a recipe for calming things down. Vedika resumed eating, "Maybe some other time, besides, campus security must be on high alert after what just happened. But I'll tell you mine, I can make myself indestructible; and apparently, others." She put out her palm to clue him in to what she had done earlier to protect Paulina, and then Adrian. "I also punch weird," she added, not really sure how to describe her offensive ability, "It's like my punches target weak points, go past defenses or something, I don't really get it myself. Paulina thinks it has something to do with resonance, maybe. Oh, but if and when I punch you, I won't be using my power, I'll just be giving you a normal punch." Vedika winked, as if informing him that she had no intention to punch his brains out was somehow a friendly gesture.

"you don't need too keep things calm forme, Vedika. I'm okay" Ashleigh said softly, "but I'd rather there not be any more violence myself" She gave a yawn as she spoke, so that some of her words sounded drawn out and a little warped. "energy, I imagine, is how it works. But what do i know?" She gave a shrug, and stretched, gathering her book to her once again.

Not wanting to get up, and not particularly caring what anyone thought, Ashleigh used her telekinesis to bring a drink over to her, doing so carefully so that it didn't spilled, but the landing was a little rough. The drink spilled over the sides but Ashleigh twirled a finger and the liquid went right back into the cup.

She brought it to her lips and took a sip, still wishing she was washing a pill down with it. Perhaps it wasn't such a good thing for her that the bracelet supressed her self healing abilities as well. She was jonsing for a high. She gave a heavy sigh, "I'm sorry I'm not good company, tonight, Jason"

Liam Pyne

Wrinkling his nose Liam looked up from his now empty plate. “This is my second semester so i basically know nothing.” It wasn’t exactly true but compared to the two of them he was not nearly as helpful to Korie. “Except maybe that you shouldn’t bother trying to run, using your powers recklessly or basically getting into it with anyone else unless it's on camera somewhere. And you can prove it was self defense.” Liam paused and blinked. “Wow that makes me sound like a problem child doesn't it? I swear I’m not. People just don’t like my ghosts he gave Paulina a sheepish look.

“Basically around here people come in two types. Loners.” Liam gave Alister a knowing look. “People like Alister and I are kinda freaky even to those with powers. And those who fit the mold, their powers are largely under control and will graduate with outstanding...well mostly golden records.” Liam let the joke slip off his tongue a little more smoothly than the start of the conversation.

“If you don’t mind the weird then I think you’ll fit right in.” With that Liam settled things on his plate.

Looking at the three of them he finally settled on Paulina. “You want to see my world? Pick apart what I can do right? If you’re that brave you’ll fill the spot on my request form tomorrow. The Academy would like to start testing a new ability they suspect I have. It's been pretty hush hush since frankly I find the notion gnarly myself. Might even make you go running. That’s my price Paulina if you want to know more.”

Looking at Alister he held up his hand. “Don’t worry no one is going to tell. Just try not to go digging around in people's heads. They find it invasive and not only that you might not like what you find.”

Finally he settled on Korie. “Well you’ve managed to meet the most popular person in the Academy and its resident Black sheep in one night. I’d say that’s a fine start. I hope to see more of you Korie. I can’t speak for Paulina and Alister since I tend to keep my nose out of other people's business but I’m in room 347 most times of the day and if luck has it we’ll be in the same class rotation. Given that this is both our first semester.” Eyeing Paulina he smirked. “No doubt she is too given that I suspect she might have pulled some strings.” WIth that Liam stood up. “Lights out is in four hours. No doubt the Principal will make an appearance soon; I wouldn’t advise staying given that it's boring as hell and they’ll make you sit through the whole thing.” With a nod he turned and head towards the doors. “Y’all need me you know where to find me. Just watch your step. Noah is on the prowl and he’s pissed I sent him packing earlier so watch the stairs and the sharp objects if you stop by.”

With that Liam headed out of the doors of the gym. It was probably going to be a long night.

Alister chuckled softly in agreement. "Yeah it was nice to meet you" he said with a smile. Alister gave a small sigh as he picked up his backpack putting away his book and pen. He stood slowly and tilted his glasses. "He's right it is about time to turn in for the night before the principal comes in"

With that Alister stepped away from his seat and pushed it in. He smiled at the two girls and gave a nod before turning to paulina. "You know where I am if you need me" he said with a small laugh. As he passed the two he ran his hand over the top of paulina's head and smiled to himself. "Goodnight guys" he said with a laugh. "I know I won't be sleeping, but I don't know if the two of you will soon"

With that Alister left for his room. He knew that either by or after lights out Paulina would soon be there to ask for an explanation for earlier. He made it to his room and with that he began organizing everything and categorizing his notes of the day.

"Haha don't worry about it Ashleigh, you don't owe me anything." He said with a chuckle

Jason mentally kicked himself. Yeah I should have realized everyone's had enough violence today.

"That's interesting." He replied to Vedika curiously. "You can protect other people, and yourself. Maybe by some kind of some kind of energy manipulation? I wonder if that kind of manipulation is also how you can increase your offensive capabilities." Jason's mind had begun racing, thinking at breakneck pace. He took a deep breath. Realizing he had been spewing out words, quicker and quicker.
"Sorry about that, I got a little carried away." Jason said as he went slightly red. "I guess I'll just tell you now and show off later. I possess cognitive acceleration. I can process thoughts and think at hyper speeds. That's what allows me to react like I can. My reaction time is about 5 times the speed of most people."
@Stern Algorithm
Suddenly time froze. Jason went white as a chalkboard. Time only slowed this much when he either really concentrated on his hyper focusing, or as a defensive mechanism. Freak. His mind went back to when he had tried to explain this same thing to his classmates. Ever since that, not a day had gone by at school without him being yelled at, mocked, pushed, shoved, punched.
What if they think I'm a freak too? He tried to push the thoughts back down into the recesses of his mind.

"S-so when I focus time kinda slows-" he stuttered out when time had resumed its usual speed. This time he couldn't keep a straight face. He needed to get away. "Sorry to cut this short but I t-think I'm gonna head back to my room. My room number is 350 so if you need anything just let me know." He said looking at Ashleigh.
@caits
He got up and quickly started to walk out of the gym. He laughed at himself mentally for telling them his room number in case they needed anything. Clearly he couldn't help anyone at the moment. Especially not someone else with emotional turmoil, when he himself was struggling at the moment. He eventually reached his room and went inside. He needed an escape from reality, he was craving a high of some kind. But not from drugs, he was an adrenaline junkie. He looked out the window almost hungrily, looking for a thrill to get him out of his own head.

Elaine Soyala

Elaine sighed. Almost everyone gathered, was a total moron. Not that she particularly cared in the end. Morons would always be morons, and there was no cure for stupidity. Specifically, she was speaking of the ones by the name of Jason, Zach, and Crown. They all seemed so eager to fight and cause trouble. Paulina seemed to at least be the most reasonable one out of the lot of them. At least, Elaine agreed that all of them trying to be bloody heroes with their powers was a bad idea to some extent. Ashleigh and Vedika though...still an unknown. She couldn't get a good read on them just from their words...she'd file them under 'mildly annoying' for now.

She'd have tried to talk to Liam a bit, but it seemed she was a little late, and she didn't want to have to deal with meeting that...whoever it was he was talking too. Korie? She thought she registered that name, but eh. In the end, she stayed near the door and simply read. For the most part, she was left alone. Most people didn't seem entirely to keen on speaking with her, which was fine with her. Less annoyances and she could focus more on her studies and thoughts.

When the social was over though, she was one of the first out the door. She headed swiftly back to her room, not wanting to linger. She had to still unpack some of her things. Some simple charms for warding off evil spirits her parents insisted she take with her, and a few other useless things she wouldn't likely be using.

...well, she might as well put them up regardless. Couldn't hurt anything at least, and the Wendigo didn't seem to mind too much. First, she took out some clothes and put them in the wardrobe. A few books were stacked next to the bed for easy reach if she couldn't sleep as she usually couldn't, and of course, storing some non-perishable food where she could easily get to it. By the time she was done, it was well into the evening, and after a quick shower, she laid down on the bed, burying her face in a pillow. After a few minutes, she sighed, looking over at the far wall.

...sleep would prove just as elusive as ever, it seemed.

Korie Weiss

Korie smiled politely as Liam and Alister left, lost in silent contemplation. Is that what people wanted around here? She wondered. To graduate?

After having stopped going to school, the last thing on Korie’s mind was reincorporating herself into society. What was the use? What would an amazing academic record get her now that she was branded a meta? Even if she somehow graduated within the top few of the school, Korie would still be a meta, plain and simple. A mutant. An outcast.

No, Korie had long since given up on trying to stand out in the crowd. Her power was proof of that. Why else had she been granted the ability to take on others’ identities if not to blend in herself? A famous shapeshifter was a dead shapeshifter, especially if she was facing off with people who can read minds and speak to ghosts.

”I’ll be turning in for the night as well then,” Korie said to the remaining member of the table, standing and stretching. ”See you tomorrow for another round of classes.”

Back at the dorm, sleep claimed her quickly. Korie rarely dreamt since she was a child, and that hadn't changed. The only difference was that while she used to be a heavy sleeper, she was now a light one. Sleeping on the streets could do that to you, although Korie was still glad she wouldn’t have to relive her worst fears alone in the dark.

Paulina Benson

Narrowing her eyes at Liam, Paulina grinned. "Are you challenging me, little boy? Because that sounded like a dare." Despite her semi-serious expression, her tone was playful. Oh yes, tomorrow was definitely going to be interested. "Bring. It. On."

Cheerfully waving, Paulina took the time to properly look Korie over as she stretched. She had to admit, the girl was a natural beauty, in a spunky sort of way that made her fun to talk with. Exactly the sort of person that Paulina liked. "Sure thing! I'm sticking around a bit longer," she grinned cheekily, "Somebody has to make Stelman think that the effort he puts into his speeches is appreciated."

As she watched the girl walk away, not even bothering to hide the fact that she was checking her out, an absent thought made her jump off the table and hurry to catch up. "Oh! Hang on a sec!" Snagging a napkin from one of the tables, she wrote down a series of numbers and pressed it into Korie's hand. Folding the girl's fingers around the note, Paulina grinned as she held her hand between her own. "There's my room and cell number. I have the place to myself and my door's always unlocked, so if you ever want to hang out or talk, don't be afraid to swing by. I'd like to get to know you better." Paulina winked at her, gently rubbing a circle on the back of Korie's hand with her thumb. "Just make sure you knock first, or text me if it's after hours."

With that, she turned to return to her seat, but much to her surprise, Ash was still here. She would have expected her to have ducked out at the first opportunity once Paulina had left her. Progress maybe? Pushing herself? Whatever the case, Paulina was most definitely proud of her friend. It wasn't easy being her, and improving the enchantment program on her bracelet was still one of Paulina's top priorities. So, instead she returned to her friend's side.

The principle's speech, as per usual, was dreadfully boring. Not that it was really his fault; the man just had one of those voices that excelled at putting people to sleep. The first few times she had heard it, she'd actually suspected that that was his power. She'd later concluded that the government's general attitude meant that there was no way that they would place a metahuman in charge of a semi-official academy for metahumans. At least, not yet anyway.

At the conclusion, she air-skated off to her room, organizing her list of questions for Alister as she went. Tomorrow was going to be interesting, but the night was yet young.

@Thundercrash Alister passed around his hectic dorm room tagging and checking different things. "Yes. Yes that one goes here...... This one goes there" he spoke aloud to himself as he moved around tapping and moving and stapeling papers and strings.

The inside of his dorm looked like some sort of conspiracy theory hut. There were pictures and discriptions of each and every person at the academy and every other Meta that he had info on. The strings linked all of them together marking patterns and repetitions.

Alister opened his closet and began messing with the paperwork in there . In his closet was the reason he hid his black book from Paulina, for in there was his research. Reaserch inti his own powers and research into her ocular problem. "I know km missing something but what" he hit his head against the wall. "What the fuck is it! " he shouted in anger "what could ibposibly be missing! "

Ashleigh gave Jason a nod, and started to plan her own get away now. When Paulina joined her, She gave her friend a smile, and then lay her arms on the table and rested her head on them. She was soon asleep as the principle began to talk, She only woke when Paulina rose, and bleary eyed, she strummbled off behind her, heading towards her room. [i350[/i] She thought, and if she had more energy, she might have trotted off to Jason's room. She admired him for coming to help Paulina out, and wanted to thank him better then she had.

She opened her dorm room door, and stumbled to her bed, flopping down on it with a moan of happiness, not even taking off her shoes as she just let herself sink into depths of the bed. She rolled over so she was on her stomach, and then she managed to kick her shoes off, whimpering. She flicked her fingers, closing the curtains to her window, and again to turn off her light.

She let out a long sigh, closing her weary eyes.

After another moment, however, she opened them, rolling over again to the side of her bed that was against the wall, and lifted up a corner, taking out the chocolate bar that was hidden there. She figured that was better then the drugs. She broke off a piece, and let it rest on her tongue, enjoying the taste as it melted. It was rich, sweet and oh so delicious.

She savoured it, as she looked up at her ceiling, her eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness. Finally though, she resigned herself to the fact that she wasn't going to fall asleep. She rose, not bothering to put her shoes back on, slipping the bar of chocolate into the back pocket of the jeans she wore, and left her dorm room, to wander the halls of the school
