More seriously, I was leaning more towards oaths as personal pacts rather than pacts beholden to others. It's less contracts of service and more like oaths of silence, honesty, or something similar. People can take oaths and break them, but they are maintained with personal motivation rather than obligation. Toun's self-improvement philosophy feeds into that with a monastic bent, and when I finally get enough time to write more, that's how I plan for mortals to be influenced by him. There will be some overlap, but not too much, I should think.
