Yeah, if people are going to die, that makes sense. I have played some games where the playable cast significantly changes over the course of the game either due to characters dying, changing allegiances, or even just leaving the group for less severe reasons, so it might actually work in that sense, but not if you wanted to be able to build a specific party of characters that would carry across the whole game together like a more conventional RPG.
