He was holding his camera and aiming it at her, but it wasn’t on record (or was it? secret). Truly, the Pup was just checking the lighting in the library - it sucked. There were immediate ‘shushes’ aimed at his direction, which made him give people a stank face. Ignoring their ‘request’ for him to keep it down, he pridefully strided toward his friend he made a week ago at Delirium. Turning off his camera, having gotten b-roll of campus today, he gave the introvert a wide grin. “You’re chipper this morning.” Eliana crossed her arms and locked her gaze with the seventeen year old. “I’ve spent this entire week gettin’ people to sign releases for me. I even got LEONNNNNNN - sorry I like saying his name like that - to take a stack and get signatures for me.” Virgil pulled out a paper that was rolled up in his back pant’s pocket. Shortly after, she grabbed the paper from him and read it fairly quickly. Her blank expression turned into a grimace. “What? Is there a typo?” Virgil perked one of his eyebrows. Shit, I should have reread it... “I don’t want to be filmed.” she retorted while handing the paper back. The boy was not going to take no for an answer. Especially from the daughter of a teacher. “You see, Ellie, baby.” “Don’t call me baby.” “Walk and talk with me.” The shadowmancer gently grabbed the woman’s arm, causing her to tense a little, and directed her down the aisle, “Think of the story. You like stories, yeah? I see this winning awards if I do it right. I know, I know. The school rift keeps gettin’ wider but imagine if I find the good times? Y'know, that show the beauty of us uniting forces. The documentary of the century! United We Stand. I can’t possibly do that without you. You are one of the faces here! Along with Mitch. Mitch is a cool dude.” Eliana groaned at all his yapping. Fantastical ideas for a driven boy. Perhaps if she did agree, he’ll learn that most students were ugly inside and out, everyone was out for themselves, and ‘beauty’ was dead. With a swift scan, she searched the main sitting area for something. Anything, really. From a distance, she caught sight of a naturally attractive brunette with the vast sea in her eyes. If she wasn’t mistaken, the girl’s name was Amy Stevenson and she was at the tournament meeting. Perks of having the teacher in charge of the tournament as a mother. There was some faces she could recognize even if she hadn’t officially met the person. A sly smirk slipped on her fair face. If Virgil was kept occupied by another woman, that meant less time for him to think about his ‘friend’ Ellie. “Do you like challenges?” “PFFT. I was made for challenges! I ain’t chicken shit. No Hart is.” Virgil defended his courage and honor, even clenching his free hand into a fist and clapping it twice with his chest. “Good. See that girl over there.” Eliana motioned toward Amy, which made Virgil nod in reply, now fully intrigued. “Get her to sign one of these lovely releases and ask her on a date, then you got yourself a deal.” “I got this.” and with that, Virgil led the way toward the girl he knew nothing about, Eliana following not too far behind. “Heyyyyyyyyyyyy. Do you have time for me to - uh, talk to you?” Amy would’ve been lying if she said she didn’t notice the guy before, although why he wanted to talk to her was a mystery. At his request, her eyes darted back to her book, then to him, briefly noticing a girl who she assumed was the ‘Eliana’ he’d been calling to earlier. While Amy was enjoying her novel, she was definitely curious to hear what he wanted. After thinking it over, she figured it couldn’t hurt, replying with a slight smile. ”I’m not busy, so I guess I could spare a couple minutes.” Amy paused, curious. ”Um...Why?” First matter of business. The release. Mentally preparing himself, while taking a subtle deep breath in, Virgil gave the girl a pearly white teeth smile before rattling off with his light Italian accent, “The name’s Virgil. Virgil Hart. I’m a new transfer, sorta-kinda. I have relations in the big apple, so I was like- why not? I’ll test in and totally skip a year because, like I ain't tootin' my own horn... okay I'm tootin' my own horn... I got the brains.” Was that even relevant? God, he hated asking girls out on dates and he knew it would come sooner rather than later. “ANYWAYS.” Placing the release on her lap, he added, “The real big reason I made this move was because I’m making a film. A documentary of the schools joining. The logistics are still a work in progress, but after my cousin died I wanted to make something in his name and… I was wondering if I could film your face.” That came out weird. “I mean I want to film everyone’s faces… I just don’t want to get sued. You do have a pretty face though and I’m going to shut up now because I’m just making a fool out of myself.” His cheeks leaked red as he waited for a response in agony. Meanwhile, Eliana simply observed in pure amusement (but of course, she would hide that). She liked this Virgil. It appeared that he did not know how to handle situations with girls very well. She would approach them after he did what he needed to do, not wanting to interrupt him. That’s just rude. Well, at least he seemed nice enough if a little bit jumpy. It took a second for Amy to actually take in everything he’d said, but she figured it wouldn’t hurt to give the whole thing a chance. Despite feeling a little bewildered, she couldn’t help but crack a smile at how flustered he seemed to be getting about it. Part of her definitely wanted to give the release a closer look, but it seemed really cruel to just leave the poor guy hanging like that. She laughed lightly, cheerful rather than actually mocking him in any way. ”As long as you don’t spend too much time on my pretty face, it should be fine.” She continued a bit more sincerely. ”Seriously though, I’m fine with it as long as it doesn’t get too personal or anything. It’s pretty cool that you’re doing something like that for your cousin.” Closing her book, she turned to look at him properly. ”Oh, my name’s Amy by the way. Stevenson. So, where are you from anyway? You know, seeing as you’ve transferred in and everything.” Amy smiled openly, clearly inviting him to continue the conversation. While Virgil seemed a little nervous, he was friendly enough that she could enjoy talking to him a bit. The ice was broken. Way to go, Virgil. Turning back to see where Eliana was, he noticed the Lovelace girl had taken a seat on a couch not too far away from them and started to read a book. Way to leave a guy hangin’, Ellie! Clearing his throat, he took a moment to sit near Amy, so they were more at eye level. He was 5’8” and she looked to be about two inches shorter. Yeah, so near eye level. After placing his Panasonic DVX200 on his lap, he locked his dark gaze with her blue orbs, “I’m from LA but I got a big portion of fam here. It’s good to know you are in the dark with the… underworld… people usually react when they hear my surname. Either glorifying me because my dad is a big time director or nopin’ out of the area because of the rest of my family.” Looking back at Ellie and then back at his new friend, he nonchalantly admitted, “Imma be honest, it’s not easy to get sigs for film. I already got the green light from the headmaster and mistress, but I gots to do the work myself, which is understandable. All I want to do is ask questions and find a story that shows ‘hey we all just people trying to learn’. But.” He brought his voice down low but acted like he was still talking casual with Amy, “In order to get Ellie’s signature, I needs to take you out on a date. I don’t want to force you to go somewhere with me and hell, I’d probably disappoint you because, uh.” His voice went even lower, “I’ve-never-been-on-a-date.” The cat’s out the bag! Not letting his awkwardness linger, he perked his body up and proposed, “I like you. You seem cool. And during this day and age, we needs to have people we trust. Help me and I’ll help you. That’s my motto. We can even use like the Fear Fest as ‘our date’, I doubt Ellie will monitor us. I needs to know a person before I can even consider… romance.” Honesty was the best policy and he talked better when he wasn’t thinking about hand holding and all that other… love stuff. The look on Amy’s face at first was one of complete bemusement, and she couldn’t help but glance over at Ellie in the background. That seemed like a weirdly specific request, seeing as she couldn’t remember ever meeting the girl before. Was it just something she’d asked for in the hopes that Amy would ignore Virgil? Or maybe just that she’d not even consider the idea of the date no matter what he said. The scenario confused her, but she wasn’t quite as annoyed about it as she’d expected to be. Listening to his explanation, she had to admit that his offer made sense on a basic level. Realistically, it wasn’t going to cost her much to actually go along with his plan - Although the comment about his family was definitely a little worrying. Now that she thought about it, the surname Hart rang a few bells, but it wasn’t something she’d picked up on as quickly as most people would. Growing up across the Atlantic probably helped with that. She doubted she’d heard as much about the Hart family as a lot of people. After a moment of thought, Amy came to a decision and nodded slowly. ”You know what, I think I can do that.” Breaking into a friendly smile, she continued, ”If that’s all she wants, we basically just have to spend an evening in each other’s company or whatever, and you don’t seem half bad to talk to anyway. As far as company goes, I think I could do a lot worse.” She grinned, meeting his gaze. While she’d admittedly worried about his family for a second, Amy figured one evening wouldn’t do any harm. Besides, it was only fair to judge Virgil on how he acted for himself once she got the chance. ”Fear Fest it is.” She said yes?! She said yes! Grabbing a hold of his camera, Virgil jumped up from the seat and victoriously yelled at Eliana, “HA! I did it.” The librarian glared at the boy, “Mr. Hart, I will kick you out.” “Nah, ma’am. I just got a date.” He twirled on his heel to look back at Eliana, which in that moment, the librarian sarcastically muttered ‘Congratulations’. “In your face, Lovelace!” All eyes were on them and he brought his voice down an octave, “I mean… in your face, Lovelace.” With that, Eliana closed the book shut, placed it on the side table, and made her way to Virgil and Amy. By the time she reached them, Virgil already had a pen out. Lightheartedly rolling her eyes, Ellie grabbed the pen and gestured for him to turn around so she could use his back to write her name - having already read the terms and conditions, it was a fairly simple release. It made sense, since she was starting to learn Virgil was a simple boy, “See. You get two signatures and a date. It must be your lucky day. Don’t get too carried away now. Do remember you are replacing that one girl in the tournament... It’s just around the corner.” Finishing her signature and handing the paper to Virgil, who had a wide childish grin on, Eliana smiled at the other girl, “Amy, right? I’m Eliana Lovelace, it’s nice to officially cross paths. I’m sure Virgil told you everything already. I honestly just wanted to see if he would do it. Looks like he isn’t that afraid to approach a girl, after all.” “Wait what?! You were just takin’ a gamble?” “It’s fun being mischievous, don’t you think?” Ellie stuck her tongue out at Virgil, before bringing her attention to the sound of his growling belly. “Well I’m still taking Amy out! Because, a deal’s a deal. I keep my deals.” The young Hart gave Eliana a challenging stare. He’d show her. He COULD and WOULD handle a girl and take her out on a proper and AWESOME date. Just you watch, Ellie. Amy’s going to have a blast! ”Okay, you two, that’s enough.” With a slight chuckle, Amy stood up, looking between the pair of them. As entertaining as their bickering was, the noise of Virgil’s stomach growling had made her realise her own appetite. ”You two want to go get some food or something? I’m starved.”
