The winter that the whole continent of Edoniras was experiencing was particularly harsh in Lascaux, rivers froze up and forest animals became scarce making hunting and fishing difficult. Stories of providers dying of cold and of hunger were not uncommon but Argantan was no longer concerned, Aznavor had received his message and had promised help. Not freely of course, it was known that nothing ever came Aznavor for free,not even the hot wine Argantan was enjoying as he observed new recruits clear snow out of the training courtyard.

Aznavor had offered instant food aid and some agricultural experts train the providers for the spring months. In exchange however they had required help in the one field where Lascaux reigned supreme the military. A few weeks ago Argantan dispatched two dozen of his sergeants to Lascaux and had accepted the dispatch of Church officials to Morito. It was rumored that this last condition had been imposed not by the Aznavorian King but by his high priest who wanted to spread his faith. Argantan did not like, the way Aznavor conducted its diplomacy but since Henry de Stonee had fled like a coward he would need economic assistance to help conserve his rule. All these concessions would not have been necessary had the man accepted his place and remained loyal like any true man would. 

Argantan was not going to going to become an Aznavorian vassal by relying entirely upon his new 'friends'. He would also write to his southern neighbour the conciliate who had mentioned the possibility of improved future relations with Lascaux. Argantan had decided Lascaux would join this new commerce league for it needed economic security and the promise of cheaper priced goods and preferential treatment in trade deals would help Lascaux rise from the mire it was in now. He was sure that the Aznavorian King would undoutedly be distracted by the events going on in the new world and in the Republic of Dont to notice Lascaux gradually turn away from its vice like grip.
