A M E L I A L U C Y H A R R E T T Amelia logged onto her computer, fingers flying across the keyboard as she logs onto the elite hacker forums that she had been invited to earlier in the year. She takes a drag of the glass of vodka she keeps next to her and focuses her gaze on the log in page. Keying in the 20 digit password she enters the forum. Her mouse hovers over a page called Rebellion where she spends most of her free time browsing. There were a bunch of hackers there, talking about rising against the robots who controlled the city but were cowards and could barely do anything. They needed someone who had spent a lifetime in hacking...someone like her. She laughed, drunkenly as she examined all of the users talking, her mouse flicking back and forth as she pulls up various pages and runs a quick weakness scan over them. Her keen eyes quickly detect one of the weaker sites. A nearly corrupt bank. She immediately launches into her hacking. Normally, the drink would make it hard for her to focus but this was such an easy job it barely did anything except add an extra blur to her gaze. A list of numbers pops up onto her screen and she checks the account. You never know when any under the table transactions for weird machinery might pop up. She logs off without any success and walks in a drunken stupor to her bed. The sounds of holographic ads talking made it hard to fall asleep and when she went to slam down her window her eyes caught on a small glittering white robot rushing down the alleyway. Curious, she leaned further out of the window watching as it made it's way past the drunk pedestrians and slipped into a small infamous gambling bar. Minutes later she heard the loud shouts of help and a couple of gunshots. Her heart dropped down to her knees and she grabbed at her dresser with trembling fingers. She hated them. She hated them so much. Her phone rang and she stumbled over to where it was lying next to her laptop. She picked it up. "Hello?" She said groggily and sank down onto her bed. "Oh god, Amelia!" She heard the worried voice of her friend, Amber over the phone. "What's up? What's going on?" Amelia traced her fingers over the stitching on her blanket and tried hard to focus on the conversation. "Did you hear about the gambler's bar that got shot down?" Amber asked her. She nodded and then realized that Amber couldn't see her through the phone. "Yeah, the bar....it's across my street remember?" She was slurring her words now. "Oh! I forgot! But yes, it's that bar. There's this girl I heard was making quite a boom in the hacker community who managed to de-program the robot for a second and-" "WAIT WHAT?" Amelia shouted into her phone, louder than normal. "Yeah...Seems like half of the robot force is out to kill her now." Amber remarked in a hushed whisper as if this girl was such an impure thing. "Do you know where she is?" Amelia urged. "How would I know?! I'm just guessing that she's near the bar somewhere. Keeping low." "Oh. Amber, I've got to go right now, going to sleep off the alcohol. Bye!" Amelia punched the end button on the call and got up. She had a purpose. Amelia creaked open the old door that belonged to the building next to the Gambler's Bar. It groaned in protest as she forced it open and walked inside. If she could locate this girl...her dreams would be achieved. Everything would work out just as she planned. Her phone lighted up the darkness with it's blaring light as she searched through the Hacker's Forum for any mention of this mysterious hacker figure. The walls next to her were secured with various pieces of equiptment that seemed unfamiliar to her. Upon closer inspection she realised that some of the machinery were old time processors. Weird that there was still pieces of old should-be-in-the-museum technology in such a modern city like Neotech. She walked along silently, her boot heels sliding over the pine wood floors with ease. Suddenly Amelia reeled back, hitting the floor in the process, her hands striking and making a loud sound that echoed throughout the building. "What the-" She muttered right before a loud 'BANG' hit her eardrums. She leapt to her feet, hands fumbling for her fallen phone before continuing down the hallway, following the occasional crash and mumbles. Amelia reappeared in a room filled with equipment, computers and outdated technology, a round piece of gaping metal in the middle. And a boy, stumbling from it, his face planting firmly in the ground and mumbles coming from his lips. She stopped by his head and nudged him with her toe. "Who the hell are you?" [@Riverbeak]
