While Konami did try to make zones a thing, there really isn't any rule that says you can't freely move around where your monsters are. Even cards such as Ojama King and Ghostrick Socuteboss, really do more to limit the amount of monster zones.

I still do want to open the floor to zone control just in case some steely eyed new comer looks at the game and decides that's what he/she wants, so I'm going to say zones are, if the situation calls for it, labeled 1-5 from the player's left to right.
