[@Ryougu] I'm just pointing this out because I found this weird about his character; but Kendo isn't exactly good for street fighting. Not even in the slightest. It's cool, but it's still a wooden sword in the end, and Kendo is taught as a competitive sport - not self defense. Just applying it to a real fight just sounds silly. It's a completely different ball game than real swords, or even katanas. And you're definitely not going to be able to wield a pipe like one.
On the subject of that, it's better to say that he learned "Kenjustu" or "Aikido" if you want sword skills that are more 'practical'. Kendo, while it is indeed about wielding a sword, cannot be used in proper fights due to the way it works as a sport (As said by Allen). Additionally, you could even say he learned Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) if you want to stick with the whole sword fighting shebang. HEMA, although a sport, also contains realistic (Or as realistic as possible) swordplay that's not choreographed. (Trust me, I've practised all of these)
