"Just go on home, Kaye. Aint' nobody here willin' to play with you, stupid girl!" one of the town's boys taunted while sitting in one of the few mangled trees that were in the town. He had a few pebbles in his hand and chucked them at her by using a slingshot. One managed to land a blow directly on the forehead and made a solid 'thunk,' but Kaye stood strong. Kaye put her hands on her hips and glared up at the boys in the tree. "If you don't stop throwing them rocks, Jimmie, then I will get a chainsaw and cut you down from that tree!" The three boys laughed at her. "You couldn't even hold the thing little on know how to turn it on." Jimmie jumped down from the tree and sauntered over towards her, arms crossed over his chubby chest. "Just git from here. This is boy's only, in case you haven't noticed. Go play with the girls and brush your hairs or somethin'. Something needs to be done with your ugly face." "I'm warning you, Jimmie Baker..." She clenched her hands into fists, barely refraining from hitting her. "Or what? You're going to get your Mommy and Daddy and cry on their shoulder? That's right...you aint' got any." This was the last straw for Kaye as she pounced on top of him, flailing her fists into his face. She knew it wouldn't do much damage, but she felt satisfied when he let out a scream and tears streamed down his face to match her own. "Stop it, Kaye! I'm going to tell on you!" another one of the boys yelled as he jumped down from the tree. She finally stopped her assault, but not because she was worried about being punished for attacking him. That storm had been brewing for quite awhile now and she couldn't take Jimmie's crap any longer. Who did he think he was to talk about the dead? She didn't remember much about her parents for they had died before she reached four, but at least she could still see their faces. To know that there was someone who used to smile at her like she was the entire world was enough to know that she was loved. But they were about the only ones. "You just wait, Kaye! Daddy will hear of this one!" With that, the trio ran off in the distance. "Yeah, you run with your tail tucked between those flabby old-lady legs, Jimmie! And thank you for the slingshot!" She picked up a pebble from the ground at shot it at the retreating boys but didn't land a hit on them before disappearing around the corner. She picked up a few more pebbles, deciding that she may need them if they came back but as she was sorting through the perfect rocks, she saw something in the distance. At first she couldn't make out who it was aside from knowing it was a human form. As it drew closer to the town, she moved closer to the outskirts of town, slingshot in hand. When it got close enough to see, her eyes widened to the size of saucers and for once in her life, she felt frightened at what she saw. Without waiting to see if they, or it, was friendly, she aimed a pebble at it and shot at it, hitting it square in the chest. "Y-You git now, creature! I mean it!" She readied another shot and waited to see if it complied.
