Basil averted his eyes from Jace's gaze, barely refraining from shaking where he stood; with how unpredictable Jace had been as of late, he couldn't be certain of what his intentions were at the moment. Not to mention that he reeked of alcohol. His voice quivering, he said, "I'm sorry, Jace. That's all that I can say and there's absolutely nothing that I can do. All I know is that I'm glad that I'm here. And that I still have work to do. I'm not giving up. Perhaps I am a different person, after all these years, but that doesn't change the fact that I have my goals and will do anything to fulfill them.
