Now that things have already been cleared up I'd like to share my idea because it kind of speaks contrary to your description of the bonding process in a way. When I saw the description of the Golden Dragon I immediately thought of having a stark contrast between the drake and the tamer. This idea came before I read about the bonding process of having the two showing complete empathy. Basically I want the two to be opposites, two sides of the same coin (or like an inverse color image, I'm still not ENTIRELY sure). Though the tamer wouldn't be dumb, s/he'd just prefer not to listen to his intellect as much as s/he could. The tamer would be brave, foolhardy and passionate where the drake would be cold, tactical and possibly condescending. I still stick to this idea even after reading about the bonding process because it honestly sounds like you're describing a more platonic version (Or not, I don't know your brain yet) of 'soul mates'. My personal belief is that friends see a lot alike with one another but the closest relationships one might have with another person is with someone very different from you yet connected to you still in some way. I don't usually jump into RPs and start throwing out philosophies on life or romance or anything like that but I like to share my thoughts on an idea that I like with anyone I'm going to work with.
lol let me just make one thing clear. Under NO circumstances would I push that the two have to be alike. And I don't think it says anything like that in the boding description either. Soulmates (to me) are two beings that complete each other. A second half to your highest energy of being. Methuzar and Yennifer are a perfect example Methuzar is a beast, the largest of the dragon species, so one would assume that he would want a big brute of a man. But no, instead he chooses the exact opposite because something in him needed that small, kind, dainty little doctor. Furthermore, the dragon descriptions are a description of their specific species. Had I gone out of my way to describe each individual over the centuries I'd be writing till I die. Each dragon is its own being. They have different needs, thoughts, etc. So while, as a general rule, gold dragons as a species, have always honored and grave intelligence among other beings, especially humans, its not to say that this particular gold dragon didn't have its heart strings pulled by some other aspect of the tamer. This dragon, as a general rule, will always have a strong focus on Intelligence, its simply a part of being genetically coded with a higher level of thinking. But with that higher level of thinking come self realisation, perhaps the realisation that although the tamer he/she chooses isn't to par with him or her intellectually, he or she craves that tamer's traits. Does that make sense to you? Soul mates doesn't mean psychological twins; its yin and yang, two things coming together to complete a higher level of being. In some cases, they are much alike and that's perfect because that's what each of them needed, in other cases they're completely different and that too is perfect. Descriptions are guidelines to help you get an idea of how your dragon would act. Bonding is ALLLLLLL you lol.
