Who Believes In Fairytales?
“In New York city, happily ever afters are as fictional as the stories they come from…”
Any and all characters from tales and legends live and breathe amongst us, living their secret lives in the same homes and apartments beside us. But they operate and adhere to the laws of their own community, where their past doesn’t matter and their future lies in ‘The New World’.
There have been Princes who have become Paupers, heroes who have become dregs, and good people who buckled under the weight of who they are and where they inhabit. Some of the ‘Tales’ have thrived more than others but all of them keep their community and issues secret and aren't so willing to forget the stories that shaped who they are...and will become.
Even now things are far from idyllic in the community of the Tales. Arguments over leadership have begun to spiral out of control causing old and new grudges alike to boil to the surface. It’s only a matter of time before something happens-
And someone dies.
How this particular tale ends is up to you.
The Tales
A Tale is a being from classic stories whose innate strength and power lies in the popularity of their tale as well as what they carried through their story, though many Tales go on to learn more skills after their story “ends”
You decide which Tale you are as well as the story surrounding your Tale and how they came to join the rest of the community in an event known as “The Great Exodus” in which the community of Tales decided to adapt and change to fit in alongside the current day climate in secret, some have assimilated to this change better than others however and this has caused even more tension amongst the currently leaderless community of Tales.
A Tale lives for an extremely long time, though they may wane in power if their story becomes more forgotten, it will not kill them but it will bring them down more in overall strength. Even despite that, Tales are quite hard to kill, some are easier than others but Tales can survive numerous injuries that would fatally injure regular people. That said, they aren’t immortal and things such as decapitations can just as easily kill a Tale as anyone else. More beastly Tales are given magic or potions to suppress or even control their alternate forms. More noteworthy Tales were given this from the start but they are technically available to all, but are incredibly expensive causing more of a rift between the rich and the poor.
Not every Tale’s story went exactly as it was written. Little Red Riding Hood might have been far meaner than the Big Bad Wolf ever could be, and Prince Charming might not have been so princey on the inside as we might like to believe. Alternate character interpretations and creative changes to more well known Tales are encouraged.
If you are familiar at all with the comic series Fables (Or it’s accompanying game “The Wolf Among Us”) You may get the idea of this premise, we ask you not to directly lift anything from the material and use it more as inspiration to create your own unique twists on several classic characters, this interest thread is simply to see if there’s possibly a group of rp’ers willing to give this premise a try.
