Last laugh's on me, 'Metat-' is the start of a bunch of Latin conjugations of [i]metor,[/i] measure, from which we get [i]meter[/i] and hence Metera- The civilisation of a geo[i]metry[/i] goddess.

I was originally going to call it Metro, since that also has implications of [i]metro[/i]polis, which in turn is derived from [i]mater,[/i] mother.
