He stood there for a while, not sure of how to react. At first he smiled slightly, but it quickly dimmed at the scenery around the two. It was gloomy, depressing and surely melancholic for his future self. Nothing was going to be the same. Nothing was going to be the same for this girl or himself...or anyone, ever again. Everything had been set into motion, as if this were just a catalyst for what his life was about to become. Grant had processed during his experiences of this horrendous tragedy of what his response would be. And there was only one response that could be taken forward, and that was retaliation and remorse for those who had suffered. He had no idea if he had suffered himself, but everyone else surely had. Grant eyed the girl once more. She was good company, a real good soul on the ship for him to be around. It was warming, hearing the thankfulness she had, even if she didn't seem fully focused on it due to the events that had just happened. Besides all of that, it was definitely something Grant could see, a light in the fog. She, too, would also be a catalyst for the actions he were to commit in the future. As he had no idea they'd spark a friendship right up until the time to enlist would arrive. "Hey...it's okay...Uhh...As long as people are okay, I'm okay...And I know you might not be and all. I have an Uncle we can meet in Trost, if he makes it there...You can use some of his accommodation if you need a place to stay or a place for food and water...It's Grant, by the way...Grant Hyral."

Two years later...
Grant stared blankly into the invisible target his eyes focused upon. He could just about make out the blur of his head, but his voice was clear and booming. His words were demanding of answers, but his mind must've been judging as he went along. Mateo had spoken of the harshness of Drill Instructors, but he never thought of them like this. However, he was at least grateful to have an insight on what Schulz was going to be like before he and Olivia enlisted together. It was still an awkward day, his enlistment, seeing as Olivia was so keen on doing so that she dragged him all the way there. He heard the amount of remarks he gave. In Grant's mind, it was quite amusing. He'd never been called Pretty Boy before, and it was definitely one of the better nicknames around the Cadets than the previous victims of Schulz. But Grant saw an opportunity to try and get a bit of a laugh with the instructor, by deliberately agreeing with him in a comical sense. It was a risky move, but with what all these people were going through, he might of well have handed his life over to the man. He was strict, and discipline was of the highest standard, just exactly what Grant wanted out of training. He didn't want to train to become an incompetent soldier, and this was definitely the choice to go for. They all needed to be shaped up, Grant knew it for everyone and himself. The world of the war on Titans was one that served with many losses, tragedies and critical thinking. They would need to prepare for the worst to become the best. "Sir, we've all been hit by the horrors of Shiganshina, I speak for everyone to say we know what it spills like...Plus, I'd thought you'd needed a little extra cannon-fodder, sir...Just in case you ran out." The time for the comedic joke was something against himself, but it was a joke that was worthwhile. It proved Schulz right. He said he wasn't capable to fight the Titans, and he damn-well hoped he could. Mateo was there to give him written tips via letters about how some of the basic tests are run like, giving him that slightly advantage. But calling himself cannon-fodder just made him what the instructor had called everyone else...A living corpse.
