Well, humanity would have claim to eight straight off unless you count Pluto in which they'd have nine. So I figured the Cassadrian system would just be a little larger, with a massive star. They'd just lay claim to all of it whether they have any stations or people on every planet nor not. (Similar to how the world claims celestial bodies today) But I'll lower the number a little if you'd like. It'd just mean they have a smaller solar system then I originally planed.

Alright cool, I probably should have made that more clear in my original post, sorry about that. So yeah, they only have two planets besides their homeworld that have been colonized, those that they can reach semi-easily without light speed. The other planets at the least might have a few satellites orbiting them and the occasional exploration expedition.

Since I think I kinda missed something important I post it as a work in progress for now. Feel free to give me your thoughts.

EDIT 1: Changed the ancients to be less human like.
EDIT 2: Added some sections which were missing.
EDIT 3: Added some more details.
EDIT 4: Final changes to the draft.

So I decided to go with the gay space samurai.

Very much a WIP, this'll fill out gradually tonight, I'd bet.

For clarity's sake. The origins of these guys-and their connection to humanity-the nature of the Empire that took humans and made them super soldiers way back...well, it'd be no fun if I told you all upfront eh?

Since Ophidian isn't doing nekos anymore, I'm doing nekos. Because my space elves became increasingly un-elflike.

What happened to all the usual cast of aliens that aren't near human?? D:

Photosynthetic sentient pollen things coming tomorrow.

Also I'm trying to fetch new people to join the RP. Don't bite their heads off or I will fight you all.

Without spoiling to much, human-like and humanoid aliens being common makes sense.

There is the argument to be made that two arms and two legs is typically more efficient as far as biological energy goes. There may also be other points about the dexterity of hands allowing for the work of fine tools lending to advanced development, never mind more effective tools to help harvest or acquire energy-rich food that would benefit the development of the race down the road by providing nutrients that aid in rapid growth or some such.

I don't claim to be an expert on biology, let alone space biology but as I've gathered this is the basic theme. You could have a highly developed brain like a dolphin's but it's not going anywhere without fine tool manipulation, nor being capable of entering and taking advantage of the open biological niche to be occupied by human-tier intelligence.

@duck55223 without spoiling too much, independently evolved exceptionally-near-humans-but-better seems pretty unlikely. I mean I'm not ruling it out but we essentially have a ton of almost-humans which strikes me as just a biiit odd. Oh well.

The chances of life existing at all is a number about as close to zero as you can get. Which means the odds for alien life existing is pretty pathetically small in the first place, but the chances for intelligent alien life, that's basically nil.

I could still change the apearance of my species, but I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing that some species are humanoid or human like.

If more people think that there should be more other species, then tell me. I can still make some changes to my draft ^^

From an artistic and literary perspective humanoid aliens are a good thing because their emotionally closer to man. Or even if they closely resembled any of the sorts of mammals we keep as pets. The dynamic range of emotion they can express makes it more capable to have the basic connection that allows not just the main character to have a meaningful interpersonal relationship with, but the audience.

Typically speaking, anything far from being human and on into something akin to the grotesque means there's no emotional connectivity up front, it'd all rely then on the characters filling particular character niches to be liked by the audience. Otherwise they're kind of ignored. Either they become sarcastic sidekicks or big up some kind of meme value to serve as an introduction to them.

But "meme value" alone is unquanitified and it's easier to make people cry than it is to laugh, so I've been told. So I wouldn't rely on it. So the only other option is to somehow be an antithesis to what would be the human-like races and basically cast yourself as a villain, because that's what they'd be read as; like a Cthulu.

I'll either go with a reimagination of Krugstahl (no human civ prior is needed) or a modified Morte Imperium.
Any of my other concepts don't work. And why I want these instead of a new one? Because it saves time and more importantly I never ever got to RP out any of these factions in earnest.
BTW, is it fine if I already had (NPC) alien contact?
