We as GMs have asked similar questions. If memory serves, it was still pretty hostile, but starting to warm back up to it. Where as before, magic would get you ostracized from your community at best and killed in your sleep at worst, 20 years prior, if the magic was deemed "helpful", you were basically put in charge of whatever your magic was deemed helpful for and respected, if grudgingly.
