In all honesty, there [i]is[/i] a reason for these pairings, and all of them lie with the third roommate. All of the third roommates are NPC's with a specific personality and who will be used to move your character along . . . or not, depending on the flow.

Also, yes, rooms are crossgender. It might seem a bit strange to you, but the university is very lax about interaction between the sexes, even the sexual kind (there are limits though); it's an (un?)fortunate side-effect of being an institution that studies all form of magic.

And all means [i]all[/i] - that includes the tantric kind such as succubi and temple prostitutes.
