His top lip and chin are host to a rather cavalier, if crudely-maintained Vandyke beard, owing more to genetics than style. He stands at an average height, no more than 5 foot 11 inches and has an athletic build. His pallid skin is rough to touch yet carries fewer wrinkles than to suggest his age. With his increased status, he has taken to wearing finer clothing than his usual military attire. Usually he will be draped in dark clothing.
Habits
Loud chewing Nail biting Alcohol consumption
Hobbies
Sustained arguments Chess Hunting Sparring with lesser swordsmen
Likes
Competition Wealth Recognition Control His family Good food Good alcohol
Dislikes
Naivety Excessive shows of affection Losing Poverty Embarrasment
Fears
Death Harm befalling his family Poverty
Personality
Amberlin is a product of a prosperous family and has a suitably ambitious streak, not content unless he is progressing in some way, whether that be financially, in status or in skill. He is conniving and resourceful and have used these traits to better his standing. Years of military service have crafted the man into a straightforward and precise individual, ready to do lead a charge. It is here that he first experienced the joys of leadership, serving as captain of the guard for a score of years before pledging his fealty fully to the king as his Lord. As an older man, he has grown cautious and careful, eager not to waste his life on a battlefield. Time has not softened his ability, however, and is more than capable at handling himself. His tongue is kept as sharp as his blades, and he has a love of wit. He takes immense pride in the successes of his children, and the extension of his lineage through them. He hopes to pass his duties on to his eldest son and namesake, Goddard, when he is no longer able to carry them out himself. His pride even extends to his second son, Wybert who he had initially opposed joining the clergy. He is enjoying taking a more active role in his youngest son, Brom's rearing and education. Driving him is a need to be recognised for his accomplishments and to be rewarded. He is prepared to do anything to maintain his status.
Background
The family Amberlin is one of the longest established and notably prosperous in Abhainn's history, producing many able soldiers and landholders. As payment for generations of service, Wyot Anberlin, was bestowed the title of Lord from King Fredrick VI and given stewardship over the manor and surrounding community of Yaramir (will change name at request). At this time, his son, Goddard had progressed to the position of captain of the Abhainn guard, following twelve years of service. It was during this that he had met his wife, Jocosa, daughter of a wealthy milliner, with whom he would go on to have four children. His career was marked by success and promotion, aided by his father's increasing standing amongst the court of the king. Up until his father's death, still well into the war, he served the King as captain. Numerous attempts to breach the capital were thwarted by men under his command and when the time came, lordship of Yaramir eventually passed to Goddard. He has sworn fealty to two monarchs as vassal: Fredrick and his heir. Commanding the soldiers under his charge as Lord of Yaramir, he continued to aid the war effort up until its close. In the relative peace the talk of treaties has afforded him, he has begun adjusting to his role as Lord, and as a father. His ambition will inform his moves that follow.
Extra
Persons of interest:
Jocosa Amberlin: Wife and mother to his four children, aged 39 Goddard Amberlin: His eldest son, aged 21.
