Nation RP - Economics - Politics - Diplomacy

I'm currently designing a Nation RP set in a Fictional World analogous to ours during the Napoleonic Era (1790's - 1800's). I'm wagering between two different setups and would like your input. The two options are below:

1. Guiding a Nation: In this set up, there would be a single PC nation. You would represent ministers, generals, admirals, politicians and even the Head of State in this nation. People would obviously be vying to take control and have their own policies implemented but at what cost? This nation would largely be generated by a RNG, and I as the GM would represent basic plots and outside nation ambitions.
- 4 Votes

2. A Tale of Great Powers: In this set up, there would be two or three Great Powers. You would represent the ministers, generals, admirals, politicians and leaders of these nations. They would obviously be rivals (Russian Empire, United Kingdom, French Empire, et al) or in a duo (French Empire and United Kingdom, for example), so there would be two layers of competition and conflict: those within your nation and those on the international stage.
- 6 Votes

The theme however, would be the same: the Napoleonic Era. Let me know your thoughts/opinions.

Full Name: Miles Julius Radcliffe
Age of Birth: 1762
Nation Affiliation: Merenia
Position: Citizen, Industrialist
Bio: Miles Radcliffe is the master of the Radcliffe Industrial Works, a longstanding pillar of Merenia's military power that formerly originated as Radcliffe Heavy Shipyards building ships of the line for the navy that eventually expanded to mass-woodworking and iron production to further consolidate it's production pipeline into highly efficient shipyards to keep the navy supplied and well-built. While perhaps not the most ambitious or brilliant man, Miles is diligent and methodical and possessed of exceptionally good memory to keep track of a sprawling company and relations with all relevant admirals and politicians.

Despite the ongoing troubles and problems of the Kingdom, Miles is nonplussed. The Kingdom has had it's rises and it's falls, but it has always remained a constant. And all the recent trade trouble and conflicts just means more market opportunities are to come. Though whoever ends up taking the job of Prime Minister could be a concern for him for various reasons though, prompting a refresher of his political contacts.

In his off time, Miles enjoys reading foreign philosophy and some personal metalworking hobbies, and is a stern but caring father to two sons and a daughter.

Depending on character balance I am open to switching to a different role as needed. This is gonna be interesting.

Full Name: Veaceslav Cornea
Date of Birth: February 10th, 1780
Nation Affiliation: Denzgraad
Position: Military
Bio:

Veaceslav was all but a commoner as a lad, living as any other lad would live growing up, but he always had an art for war. When he was but thirteen, the Constantine wars broke out and his father was sent away as a volunteer leaving him as the ‘man of the house.’ He waited and waited for his father to return but he never did, until the Cornea family received a notice that the father was dead, a warrior’s death as he attempted to save a comrad’s life. This lead to Veaceslav’s life as a military man.

On the very day he became a legal adult he swore himself to the Imperial army and joined. Even as a recruit, he showed amazing promise with a knack for battle and strategy. Many of those who survived with his father saw much of that same mindset that his father had, Veaceslav was shown to be a great man in training and very easily got passed the basic training needed. Due to his mindset, the Imperial Army funded his study to become an officer and put him through more training, while he has yet to fight an actual battle he is eager to show what he is capable of for the love of his country.

Full Name: Asmus Steen
Date of Birth: 1778
Nation Affiliation: Denzgraad
Position:Military (Military Captain)] / Politics (Son of a Vizymr)
Bio: Born to Ditlev Steen, a minor vizymr, Asmus was given a good education and taught the proper ways of combat in a military academy. He joined the academy right as the war began, while his father was one of the first “volunteers” against Constantine, and Asmus couldn’t wait to join him, his father did well and they kept letters to each other while Asmus was in the academy. Asmus’s time at the academy was mixed, he excelled at academic and combat studies. However he often fought with his fellow classmates, for one reason or another making him an outcast. When he graduated at age 18, he was granted commission as a lieutenant, but disallowed to join a new volunteer force. Instead he was put to work maintain a board patrol. In 1801 after the battle of ten fields, he was granted the rank of captain, yet lost something even more precious, his father, who had died against Constantine. From that day Asmus swore vengeance against him and got to work on improving the Denzgraad military.

Full Name: Alexander Wynter
Date of Birth: 1777
Nation Affiliation: Merenia
Position: Military, a Captain in Her Majesty's Royal Army
Bio: The only son of Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Wynter and his wife Frances. Alexander Wynter began his military career and joined the Royal Merenian Army in 1794 as a cornet in the 6th Dragoons before being transferred as an Ensign to the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards. A prestigious position secured by both his noble blood and the connections of his father with various characters among the top brass of the Army. Seeing several actions partaken by his unit in Serranthia, Alexander would gain a promotion to Lieutenant in 1797 and later to Captain in the current year of 1801. Is currently awaiting an assignment to a unit in Merenia as the Royal Army reforms and regroups following it's crushing defeat at Ten Fields.

Throughout his service Alexander has proven himself as a capable officer of the commissioned rank. Displaying a remarkably practical and concise personality and nature throughout his time in the Army, Alexander has striven to carry himself with dignity and honour while espousing those values in others. Indeed, the title of Idealist might be attributed to this young man currently in service in Her Majesty's Royal Army.

Yes. Although non-nobility could potentially rise in the ranks. If you RP a non-noble I imagine that there would be some predjudice against your character.

Both Denzgraad and Merenia are at WAR against Constantine, currently. Constantine is the oligarch akin to Napoleon in Blood & Steel.

I misread things then. I thought they supported him so as not to draw his ire. @Theodorable edited the sheet now.

There might be too few players to effectively man both sides at this point. 4v4 at most, and some will probably drop.

Full Name: Brycen Taylor
Date of Birth: 16th of November, 1768
Nation Affiliation: Merenia
Position: Military (Captain)
Bio:
Born in the County of Hadleigh in 1768, Brycen's early childhood was noted only by the fact that he was a commoner and that he was the youngest of five children. He was a bright commoner at that, however, as he studied locally, taught basic reading and writing along with basic arithmetic by the few locals that could. Scrounging for both learning material and funds as a farmhand, he eventually found the shields to attend a university at the age of 25. He spent two years in a cramped city earning a degree in rhetoric, with a potentially 'promising career in the Parliament' as one of his professors put it. But he did not pursue the career, despite a return to his hometown and a brief month-long campaign, which ended due to the absence of funds. Resident as a local administrator at the age of 27, he often settled the disputes of townsfolk over legal matters, composed documents for locals, and kept track of the town's treasury. He married soon after, and by mid-1794, he had a son on the way.

However, the knowledge of widespread war by mid-1794 drew a tension of the County of Hadleigh, and posters of a unit being mustered, the 'Hadleigh Regiment of Volunteers & Fencibles' as the documents put it, drew many to fight for a shield a day, which was more than most had earned in a month subsisting off the land. Seeing the male population of his town dwindle and the women and older children pick up the plow and tools, Brycen soon took his leave as well, leaving his work to his wife, a woman as literate as he was. His status as a so-called 'intellectual' bore much merit in his rank and pay, as he was initially slotted a Sergeant of Volunteers, but was deemed 'unfit to be a Non-Commissioned Rank', and was given a commission for Cornet, but was then given the rank of Lieutenant and a platoon of his own before the regiment of approx. 550 shipped out.

By 1795 the Hadleigh Fencibles, as they had adopted their shortened name, had joined with the main force of the Royal Army. Assigned swiftly to the Reserve Corps, the regiment spent its time guarding baggage trains, scavenging rations for the army, and, during battles, being part of a third reserve line that would never see action unless the two professional lines broke. The baptism by fire would come in 1798 where the Reserve Corps was given a position within the second line to take the place of a broken professional regiment. Under a hail of cannon and fire, they would not fire a shot before the order had been given to retreat. Having lost 12 of their 550 (4 killed, 8 wounded), the command of the Hadleigh Fencibles were rightly angered and only under threat of desertion were they given a permanent position in the second line with the V Corps.

Years went by and non-noteable skirmishes ticked by. 1801 changed everything. At Ten Fields, the Hadleigh Fencibles and the rest of the V Corps were to hold the extreme left of the Royal Army in order to match the wide line of the opposing Black Army. The Hadleigh Fencibles were given a position along a wheat field against a hill, exposed to fire. However, they performed as ordered. Brycen's platoon, first in the order of B Company, was laid along a fenceline, partially obscured by the tall wheat stalks. The entire regiment bore the brunt of an assault, as did the V Corps. Collapsing under the elite troops of the Black Army, the V Corps was all but destroyed, allowing the Black Army to catch many units of the rest of the Royal Army as they retreated. Of the 550 Hadleigh Fencibles that left Merenia, only 210 remained combat effective. For gallantry, and as one of the only surviving officers, Brycen was appointed Captain of Volunteers, given what was left of the Hadleigh Fencibles as his 'provisional company'. The ensuing reforms saw his company become A Company, 28th Regiment of Foot, and his title became Captain of Infantry. His now vetted troops were given all the luxury of professional soldiers, with the pay rate for each private doubling to two shields a day, and their older musketry being replaced by surplus stock of proper flintlocks.

Full Name: William Hodge
Date of Birth: November 8th, 1753
Nation Affiliation: Merenia
Position: Member of Parliament (Liberal Party)
Bio: William was born into a small yet wealthy landed family, third son of Robert Hodge and his wife Anne. With little chance to inherit the family estate, he pursued a career in the navy and joined the naval academy when he was 16. At age 23, he was given the rank of Captain and command over the Chivalrous, a large frigate. Three years later he obtained renown after the battle of Green Bay against a small fleet of pirates, where he successfully sunk two frigates and captured a third, earning him the rank of Commodore. Most of William’s military career after that was relatively eventless, he earned the rank of Rear Admiral by the time he was 30 and retired a year later. Shortly after retirement he pursued an education at the Pennington University in Merenia’s capital, where he spent six years studying both law and philosophy. During this time he became a strong advocate of liberalism and began to take active interest in Merenian politics. Once he had finished his education, he became a member of the Merenian liberal party, and earned his first seat in Parliament three years later. Since then, he has become an influential member within the party, due to a combination of his passionate belief, staunch anti-Taranian attitude, and military career.

I am vehemently against making generalized real life comparisons. The geography of Denzgraad is plains with some forestry available as well.

Full Name: Janos Meszaros
Date of Birth: (Current year is 1801) 1775
Nation Affiliation: (Denzgraad or Merenia). Denzgraad
Position: (This is where your character ranks in the nation. : Citizen (Organizer)
Bio: (Bio is a simple past to give your character more life. Chances are that this bit won't affect the character, but it’s fun to know.)

A former Captain in the Denzgraadian Army and of minor noble stock, Meszaros was one of the first to volunteer to fight against Constantine. He resigned his commission in the regular Denzgraadian Army and joined the steady stream of irregular volunteers that were being sent by Emperor Michael XI. Yet the volunteer force, poorly equipped and trained, only tasted defeat on the battlefield. It wasn't long before Meszaros and his unit were captured by Constantine's soldiers and Meszaros found himself in a prison camp and abandoned by their sovereign.

It was here that Meszaros was to receive his first taste in the Revolutionary ideals of Tarantine, the books and literature which spoke of ideals such as liberty and fraternity. It was here that Meszaros began to question everything that he knew. It was only with the intervention of his Uncle Andras Meszaros, a wealthy banker, that Janos was ransomed and returned to Denzgraad.

Yet he has not re-adjusted well to Denzgraadian high society and has gained a reputation for his fiery oratory skills and manifestos, often written under a false identity, that criticize the monarchy. With the seed of revolution planted in his heart, Janos has a mind to spread it further to Denzgraad's citizens.

[ not sure if this was what you meant by organizer, if not I'll adjust my revolutionary firebrand character. ]

Full Name: Trajan Ferrus Bartold
Date of Birth: 1775
Nation Affiliation: Merenia
Position: Politics
Bio: Trajan Ferrus Bartold, usually Mr. Bartold Jr. to his compatriots due to his rather Roman-esque name given to him by his Rome-obsessed father, is the son of Albert Heath Bartold, who is himself the son of such and such Bartold, going back a number of years in what has become a political dynasty of sorts. A graduate of Pennington University in law, Trajan was raised practically from birth with an eye towards politics, continually enticed by his father to attempt to rally the neighborhood boys while also undergoing significant studies in the arenas of past politicians, Kings, Queens, parliamentary procedures and abuses, and his own father's thoughts on politics, as well as other areas such as mathematics.

The man himself is rather quiet when on his own, preferring books over antics, but upon taking the podium, a very different man emerges, one with a skill of oratory honed by decades of tutelage and a passion for that nation that seems unmatched at times.

Not long after he exited university, Trajan began to make his way in politics, attempting to connect directly with voters in his borough and soon earning his own seat in Parliament, ready to attempt to make some change in course that might affect the future of Merenia as a whole in the face of Constantine.
