She didn't like what this new girl had to say either.  Whirling around, her tail was standing on end as were her pointy ears.  Her teeth were grit as a sharp growl belted through them.

In her view, the only way they promoted a student's wellbeing was by making sure they weren't stupid enough to pick a fight with the council or break the rules.  They were a force to be reckoned with.  Not some lame ass welcoming committee.
